OK its been over a week since the last version update with one comment (and that was positive), surely that constitutes a graphically stable map.

Please let me know if there are any issues and also if you think it is done. We want to get the graphics stamp and having people open up the thread look at the map and think "hmm, thats nice", but not post is kinda slowing things down. :? Trying to not sound desperate here :)

Let us know what you think :!:

Wow. This map has seen drastic improvement since I was last in here months ago. The only pressing thing I can now see is a need for a little more flow between the land and the sea. Right now the land looks like it sites above the water. Some kind of light glow around the land may be all that you need for this.

Great work guys!

Hi all!
Version 40 is here!
* Slightly darkened the outline of the islands as per Gimil's suggestion

I'm not sure the darkening was necessary, but if it was, perhaps it could be wider and more gradual. As it is, I think it disconnects the land from the water more than before.

Was wondering what ever happened to this map. Looks good. Maybe you could try putting a small black stroke on the islands. The color values are similar from the water to the land, so it may help in separation there. The outer glow is good, but it needs to fade into the water. just increase the size to do this.

also if you lightened the water and/or darkened the land it will give it some needed contrast.

Premier,
just a few tweaks should be able to spark it up a bit. Played with it for a few minutes to show an example of what I think it needs.
Good luck on this map, I always liked the subject of Atlantis. I am glad to see someone bringing it to CC. =D>

I don't think brightening the ocean is a good idea. According to legend, this is the North Atlantic, which I have always seen as darker and colder than many seas. This new colour is a little too Caribbean or South Pacific for me.

I'm inclined to agree with Ender, I don't think lightening the ocean adds anything. As Ender correctly pointed out, Atlantis was supposedly in the Atlantic ocean which isn't known for it's light blue seas. It's more a dark and dangerous ocean.

But thanks for the comments Porkenbeans!

I have to disagree with you ender. Atlantis was NOT in the North Atlantic ocean. By all accounts it was somewhere in the mid Atlantic region, and besides it was a volcanic island. The waters surrounding such islands are usually shallow. This creates a water color that is very light in tone and color to what you would find further north around such places as England, where the water is much deeper around the island. The outside perimeter could be darkened, but the interior water should be very light in color, because it is very shallow.
The main reason for my color change was to produce some contrast from the land to the water. If you look closer you will also see changes to the land as well. They ARE subtle , but they do add depth, contrast, and relief from the water.

The North Atlantic is either that portion of the Atlantic north of the equator or that portion north of a line between Natal, Brazil and Monrovia, Liberia. Either way, Atlantis, located beyond the Pillars of Hercules according to Plato, certainly was in the North Atlantic (well, as certainly as any imaginary lost continent can be said to have been anywhere).
You may have a point concerning the inner waterways. They might well be shallower than the waters surrounding the archipelago. On the other hand, if we imagine that Atlantis was a highly active volcanic region, then the topography might have been quite varied. We can also look at this aerial photo of Anak Krakatau and see that the waters surrounding a volcanic island are not necessarily light.
Finally, I don't think the map needs more contrast between the land and the water. With the changes you suggest, the land looks too bulgy and almost resembles those shiny puffy stickers my little girls used to collect.

 Thats cool, but about the water and its color. The inner water area of your map, as in all collapsed volcano islands, is very shallow. the out side water however, drops off with the slope of the volcano, so the water color there, would tend to go from light to dark as it drops off. Just imagine a big submerged cone.

I'm going to have to disagree with you Porkenbeans. I don't think added a light to dark gradient or changing the inner sea colour really adds anything of value to the map. We spent a long long time getting the sea to look good and we're really happy with it at the moment.

I'm with Prem and Ender on this one
I actually think by manipulating the sea like that makes the map even more disjointed and unnatural.
I like the even feel the sea has.
as for the arguement of where Atlantis was... erm WTF difference does it make to the game play?

Agreed. It's been a long and winding banana brick road, but I feel like a peel is coming (and that's a good thing). ;)

This map has always had appeal/a peal. (I hate having to write out a pun, it usually kills it.)
