Fixed the XML file. Now it looks like:

What about the small version LD4 and RD2... and Yogi?

Oh, sorry, I missed that. Yes, LD4 and RD2 I've just changed. I'm reluctant to move Yogi's number to the center of his circle because then it'll look like he has 1s coming out his butt, and I don't think anyone wants that.

yeah ok, fair enough. We should be good to go then.

Small map: LC4 could go slightly to the right (so it doesn't overlap the border) and 1 pixel down. Also, Jackie's number is not centered on the circle.
Everything is ok on large.

Ok, now I'm sounding nitpicky... but the small LC4 could still go just a little bit (2px or so) to the right. It still overlaps the border slightly...
Other than that everything looks good.

Maybe all the balls should have descriptive labels in the XML, not just the home runs. I realize that calling them singles, doubles, triples, etc. is problematic, but may I suggest:
Ball 3 - Left Center
Ball 4 - RIght Center
Ball 5 - 3rd Base Line
Ball 6 - Line Drive
Ball 7 - Right Infield
Ball 8 - 1st Base Line
Ball 9 - Pop Up

Why not use single, double, etc? It gets the idea across that the balls are supposed to represent hits that can get you on base. I realize that carl was concerned about this, and Evil D it seems meant the balls to represent potential outs or hits, but really 'stealing a hit' from a player is what good defense does and what poor defense fails at. So why not just call them hits and if defenders assault them, well, they just caught a potential 'signle', etc.
Btw, in that vein, Ball 9 I think was meant as a bunt single down the third base side, not a pop-up. However, calling it either a pop-up or bunt is prejudicial to making all of the other balls 'hits' or 'outs'. So I say go whole-hog or nothing at all. Personally I prefer making them hits, as it puts more pizazz into the map without really taking anything away.

I think the discussion on page 26 shows that agreement on whether these hits are singles, doubles, or triples is unlikely to be reached in our lifetimes. When this reaches the Final Forge, there will be nothing but muttering about that sort of thing, and those names don't make it easier to find the balls on the map when you are looking at the drop-down menus, nor do they suggest in any way what parts of the field they connect with.
And yes, Ball 9 could well be a bunt, I had forgotten about that tactic. I haven't watched a baseball game in decades.
Okay, (bomp bomp) Blue Jays, (bomp bomp) let's -- play -- ball!

I don't think these names would really add that much to the map. They just kind of look complicated to non-Baseball fans.

Just go with Ball <number>.
Simple & elegant.

"blooper down the line", "line shot to left center", "suicide squeeze", etc.

I think both of these ideas are better than nothing at all. That's what I liked about...Europe 1914, I think (?) that had the battle names in the XML name. Adds some spice to some rather bland XML, if you know what I mean

There's still the issue that giving additional names to the balls may confuse players to think there's some difference between them. In Napoleonic Europe, battle names are obvious since the territories are marked as battle sites. But these additional ball names are not instantly obvious to people who are not familiar with baseball terminology.

What if you were to do something like "ball 3: double"?
Is that possible?

Yes, that is exactly what is being suggested. MarshalNey is suggesting extended names which suggest the value of the hit, whereas I have suggested extended names that reflect the location of the ball in the park.

And I have suggested that we don't confuse players with things that have no effect on the gameplay...

Ya, I agree with Natty. There are a ton of little details in this map that baseball junkies will like. No need to confuse non-baseball people.

On that note, did we ever decide if we should add the number 42 somewhere on the map or not? I think somewhere along the way that detail was forgotten with all the hubbub about backgrounds and stuff that ended up not being used...
