Reasons why I am a Republican........
1. Trickle down ecconomics works... giving money to the poor never helped anyone (outside of the person receiving it) Whereas letting the rich keep some of their money creates jobs.
2. They are the defenders of life (I know its not accoss the board but the majority are pro-life) I believe the value of human life far outweighs that of the spotted owl.
3. I do not believe in "global warming". Valcanoes have been erupting since the creation (or evolution- tring to be fair here) of the planet, which spew an enormous amount of toxins and pollutants into the air. We humans could not destroy the ozone any more than we can create it.
4. The Democrats have created all these social programs that are designed to KEEP the poor.... poor. If the poor started to do well...they might become republicans... ( I work with one....he told me, "when I didn't have... I was a democrat.... but when I started making money and realized all the taxes they were taxing out... I became a republican"
5. An elephant is a much better political symbol then a donkey. ( this one's a joke.... calm down)
If you would like to debate any of these issues (or any others) feel free to post!!!! Lets try to keep it sophisticated please.
I so tried resisting posting anything in this thread - really I did. It became a mantra for the last 5 minutes "must not post...must not post...must not post". But I'm only human (hard to discover that fact, but must accept its true) and I'm obviously a weak one also - even worse. Because here I am - and I'm posting!
Oh...where to begin.... *sigh*. Ok, lets start with something I do agree with - to some extend:
Whereas letting the rich keep some of their money creates jobs..
Yes, there is truth in this. When the money they keep are spend wisely and put to good use that is. To much taxes (both direct and indirect ones) will always function as a brake even for national economy - not just the individual one.
And why should the Governments be a moneybank anyway? They do not exactly have a history themselves that sets a shining good example of wise spendings (not in Europe and don't believe its much different elsewhere).
Ok... next post I will tell you what I disagree with (just have to take a little brake first due to natural causes).

The hole in the ozone layer and global warming are completely different and unrelated.
Ozone Layer depletion- There is a whole forming over Antarctica because of the ozone dissappering. It is dissappering because of a chemical called chloroflurocarbons (CFCs). "Invented in 1920's, CFCs were considered extremely stable, supposedly harmless, and a nearly ideal heat exchanger. Throughout the world, CFCs were commonly used as coolants in refrigerators and air conditioners, as aerosol propellants in spray cans, and as foaming agents in the production of plastic-foamcups and containers. Though CFCs wer escaping into the atmosphere, at first no one worried."
Then, basically, people noticed ozone depletion. CFCs are involved because the bonds of ozone (O3) are broken up to bond with the chlorine.
And the quote is from my biology book.
Global Warming- The warming of the atmosphere that results from green house gases (Carbon Dioxide being one of them), which trap heat. It leads to the melting of polar icecaps, which is why the oceans are rising so rapidly.

hmmmmm, most school books are bias to the left. Which would explain Clinton getting his own chapter while Bush gets a paragraph.

education is not limited to any party. But I tell you what, the day my kids come home and say they were shown how to use a condom via BANANA...is the day they will see the wrath of jay_a2j!
And get this! I just gotta tell this story of going to my kids parent/teacher conference. We are sitting there (me and my wife) with one of my kids teachers whenmy wife voices concern about my kid failing her grade. The teacher responds by saying, "I don't see that happening. But whats really important is that she grows up a health and good citizen"
WHAT????? So it doesn't matter if they can't READ there diploma...just so long as they are "healthy and a good citizen" ?????? This is yet another example of how the left lacks common sense! It makes me sick! I had to bite my tounge as my kids were in the room.

i really i'm torn with all this stuff. The American two party system of government is in and of itself fundementaly flawed. The riffs that divide the two parties and even the internal divides of the parties and counterproductive. For example, Senator Frist plans on introducing a bill to amend the constitution that would make flag burning illegal. Democrats think this is a violation of our basic rights. This move is completly political. When the democrats vote against this bill, they are being "unamerican" and, they "support" the burning of the flag.
Its stupid political moves like this that make it hard for the government to function properly. We need more moderates, more bi-partisan people. People like Mark Warner, or the people behind

a paragraph is more than enough for a state leader who says:
"More of our imports comes from overseas"
oh yes, Bush is a real wizard when it comes to economics and finances
or even worse:
"[I]t's a myth to think I don't know what's going on. It's a myth to think that I'm not aware that there's opinions that don't agree with mine, because I'm fully aware of that."
nahhhh...really? You think so...
or even much worse:
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
yes, he really does his best doesn't he?
The worst part its actually true what he said.

Public schools will never get better because both parties are so sure that they've got the one plan that will bail them out. The democrats increase school budgets, and the republicans introduce vouchers. Neither one helps public schools because A) Vouchers let kids go to other schools (thus just bypassing the public schools rather than fixing them) and B) Increased funding only goes to schools who have high averages on various standardized tests. Not to mention that these tests greatly lower the standard of compentency. (OK Jimmy, you know that you have to write a full paragraph. Good. What's a paragraph you ask? That's not important, just make sure you fill that box with pretty words.)
Personally, I'm for vouchers. Let the kids go to whatever school they want, be it parochial, private, or public. f*ck the public schools. The national IQ started its downward slope when compulsory education laws were passed.
I think it was plato that said that mental education, when gained under compulsion, attains no hold on the mind.
I hate every political party in this country. Hell, I hate politics in general. I still vote though. I vote my conscience and vote for the guy who's platform I like. I voted Libertarian last year, and I probably will again this year.
Unlike some "liberals" i don't place my money on the candidate who's the lesser of two evils and is more likely to win, I place my money on the candidate who happens to be the least scumbaggy. No one gets elected on issues or morals, they get elected by the NRA, and other special interest groups. If you don't suck up to them, you don't get to park your ass on the Presidential Chair.
Republicans blow, Democrats suck. And that's my philosophy.
I'm Non-Party Affiliated and I'm proud of it!

Come on Augusta! post some democrat quotes...
like.....
"I voted for the war before I voted against it" (John Kerry)
"I didn't inhale" ( Bill Clinton)
and I'll have to do a google to get more. You might be surprised that I don't particulary care for Bush. And the ONLY reason he got my vote is because the alternative would have been disaterous. I watched the Democratic National Convention hopeing they would give me a reason to vote democrat... didn't happen.

and while we are talking about Bush - I will never forget what he said to prime minister Juncker from Luxembourg when he visited Washington. I just thought: "and that is one of the worlds most powerfull leaders - frightening":
"I was going to say he's a piece of work, but that might not translate too well. Is that all right, if I call you a 'piece of work'?"
LOL
This was quoted in several European newspapers.

"Unity08 believes that neither of today’s major parties reflects the aspirations, fears or will of the majority of Americans. Both have polarized and alienated the people. Both are unduly influenced by single-issue groups. Both are excessively dominated by money.
For most of the 20th Century, the contest for the U.S. presidency was waged over those “in the middle.” Recent Presidential elections, however, have not been focused on the middle but on the turnout of each party’s special interest groups – with each party’s “base” representing barely ten percent of the American people.
We believe that, while the leaders of both major parties are well intentioned people, they are trapped in a flawed system – and that the two major parties are today simply neither relevant to the issues and challenges of the 21st Century nor effective in addressing them.
As a result, most Americans have not been enthusiastic about the choices for President in recent elections, the key issues they ran on, or the manner in which the campaigns were conducted.
Therefore Unity08 will act to assure that an alternative ticket is presented to the American voters in 2008."
just a little bit from the site...they make very valid points...

jay_a2j wrote:"I didn't inhale" ( Bill Clinton)
First off, he said that as a joke. Secondly, he clarified by saying that the tried to inhale, but didn't know how.
The real clencher that made him more lovable than any republican could hope to? When he was asked "If you had another chance, would you inhale?" he replied "Well yeah, I tried before."

Yeah, except Bush didn't know he was blind and the reporter didn't care.
"I'm not offended, I never told him I was blind and never expected him to know that I was blind"
It's a non-issue man. Give it up.
