I think if your going to promote an idea you should give more details. and map a rough draft of what your looking for.

snufkin wrote:I dont know what holy war you mean but if it´s the first crusade then please don´t.. bloody disgrace that one.

The pope himself said many of those crusaders acted like dogs..but I think that´s an insult against dogs.. They didn´t have any money so they attacked the ones they were supposed to help - Byzantine empire

Even worse... that was the most "successful" one out of the 7 or so

I have my book "50 battles that changed the world" and here are a few ideas i got from it.

The battle of Waterloo - Napolean, English, Prussians

Tenochtitlan - Spain and Aztecs

The Alamo - Mexicans and Texans

Bunker Hill - English and "Americans" ( i dont remember if they declared themselves independant by then)

The battle of Stalingrad - Nazis and russians

The Knights of ST. Johns last stand on Malta - the Turks were sieging there last base on Malta

Well, those are some of my ideas i got from my awesome book

It should include Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Phillipines, Myanmar, Spratly Islands, Paracel Islands, Macau, and Hong Kong.

I like south Asia. Personally though I like more theme oriented map other than locations.

I always thought that a map based on this would be cool:

Image

I'd probably chop off the bottom around 20 degrees south, and the north right above Taiwan, then base a map off that.

air raids and beach landings

world 2.2 ? how about adding a paratrooper icon and a naval troop transport icon .

1. paratroopers icon say could carry up to 5 troops drop off behind enemy lines land back at a base. ( using a max radius )

2. naval transports carry up to 10 troops land on beaches only. ? (using a max radius )

3. land troops could attack either forces. except forces at sea, naval battles.

each might have to have a different deploy button..

still don´t know what your idea is...

I worked a little on a draft with protestants (+france) vs. the evil catholics :lol: some time ago (the 30 years war)

also some work on a caliphate map.. but all those so-called "holy wars" have the same problem.. they´re mostly BS myths - most of them fought against people of the same faith a lot more than against those with other beliefs.

In order to make a religious war map with a reasonable geographical area you would need to resort to some pretty heavy historical revisionism.. Historical revisionism is something I think most europeans at least associate with nazis and other idiots.

there are many interesting wars that officially pretended to be at least partly about religion.. but to label them all religious wars would be silly and I´d say bordering on racism.

A crusade map would be fun if someone can find one that was reasonably successful..

I'd kind of like to see a map based on the BattleTech universe. Continents would be fairly easy (as long as everyone can agree on when to set it) but territories and special rules would be a bit harder. I'd make one myself but a) I don't think I'm knowledgeable enough about BattleTech to do it justice, I've played the TCG and MechWarrior 2 and looked at Classic Battletech once or twice but that's about it; and b) I'm already working on a design for a Dragonriders of Pern map.

Connect 4 Map!!!!!

Connect 4

The Classic Game, Connect 4.

7 by 6 board.

42 spots

6p = 7 spots each (+3 bonus); no nuutrals
5p = 8 spots each (+3 bonus); 2 nuetral
4p = 10 spot each (+3 bonus); 2 nuetral
3p = 14 spot each ( + 4 bonus); no nuetrals.

4 in a row= + 2

2 four in a row= +6

3 four in a row = + 12

4 four in a row = 20

Special rules= You can only attack the rows directly above you straight or diagonally. and only the top row can attack the bottom rows... (kinda like the circus maximus bit). This shoudl be rather easy as that all u have to do is get a picture of a connect 4 thing. and ur set.

I've abondoned this project, so feel free to work on it yourself. Just get in touch with yeti_c first and sort out the details with him. Page 16 from the link DiM posted has some hacked images of the map, so that'll give you an idea of the direction the map was taking.

I had the same idea, but hadn't got as far as drawing anything out yet. I had some ideas that I'll share though.

1) Just use freeways as connections and make the cities/areas continents instead of trying to create borders for each area. This would look kind of like islands with freeway bridges.

2) Use freeways to connect non-adjacent territories

3) The map you had I think is a bit too big. If you use a smaller one I think it would be better. Just LA County, not all So Cal.

4) Try to make the areas have the same characteristics as they do in real life, e.g. make downtown worth a lot, but with a lot of borders and so hard to hold. This would require you make the map not totally realistic, but it would make it come alive more. Make it a little larger than life or whatever.
Just a few ideas, may be good, may suck. I'll think it over and get back with more.

My heart was never in the map. It was the concept of making your own continents I wanted to try and Connect 4 was the easiest way to incorporate this. At the time, all the maps in development were abstract and I had no desire to add another as I generally don't like abstract maps.

Stripping away the physical borders is a concept I would still love to see, perhaps with a battlefield type map where you create your own front lines and tactical advantages. Sounds right up your ally DiM, perhaps you should try it. :wink:
