This is all true. And of course, I played soccer for a number of a years as a youth, which is how I learned the rules thoroughly.

Wait, really? I know the rules of soccer very well, and can follow the game just fine, and I'm an American. Do all Europeans really not understand the game?
To be fair soccer is a lot more straightforward. One play in football often has no similarities to another.
Football is very complex too but it is like a work of art: comprehension reaches almost as many different levels as there are viewers.
I hadn't intended to imply that it's a simple game, just that it's a lot easier to get the general idea of it across.

nah i know mate, and i agree with you; American football is overtly more complex.
Part of the reason that Football is so universal (hehe other than colonialism)
is it's simplicity.
But as we know anything which is simple, beautiful and fascinating at the same time must also hold the paradox of complexity.

Before any speed games, you've got to fully prepare yourself by taking a pre-game dump.

Getting a laptop solves that problem! Nothing better than playing speed games while sitting on the toilet.

Quite. It's sort of like if there was a convention of some sort being held, but they were informed a day before it started that part of the hall was closed for construction and they'd have to fit the entire thing into one room.

I'd say it's more like a bunch of college frat boys going to their dorm to find it demolished, and being rebuilt, and a big sign telling us that we have to go sit in the corner of a lecture hall for the time being... And all we wanna do is be loud and rowdy and spray beer everywhere, but the kids in the lecture want us to sit down and shut up while they talk about matters of utmost importance.

Agreed. Canadian Thanksgiving is one of the main reasons the forums have not been fixed yet, and therefore has a lot to do with Conquerclub, and should be left in the GD. Not merged with this thread.

Happy World Standards Day!
Posted: Mon Oct 13, 2008 5:59 pm
by Snorri1234
World Standards Day is celebrated internationally each year on October 14th. The day honours the efforts of the thousands of experts who develop voluntary standards within standards development organizations such as the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The aim of World Standards Day is to raise awareness among regulators, industry and consumers as to the importance of standardization to the global economy.
October 14th was specifically chosen to mark the date in 1946 when delegates from 25 countries first gathered in London and decided to create an international organization focused on facilitating standardization. Even though ISO was formed one year later, it wasn’t until 1970 that the first World Standards Day was celebrated. Each year, ISO determines a theme based on a current aspect of standardization.
Around the globe, various activities are chosen by national bodies to commemorate the date. The Standards Council of Canada (SCC), Canada’s national accreditation body, celebrates World Standards Day together with the international community. The SCC publishes its annual issue of CONSENSUS magazine on World Standards Day as well as hosts events or plans other initiatives on this date.
It is really an interresting day. I know some people here haven't realized it's the 14th yet or aren't in the 14th even, but this celebration is really important, especially if you're in canada.

The equivalent of every thread in a forum being crumpled together.

baby mods should not be given the power of the merge.. especially when they don't understand what it is that they are looking at.
just because something does not translate to their narrow world views, does not mean it is not a valid GD thread topic... yeah, i'm pissed about my thanksgiving thread being merged. especially since, as timminz pointed out, it is one of the main reasons the sub forums are still down.
yes, thanksgiving exists in the world outside of america and falls on different dates!!! SHOCKING!!! A WORLD OUTSIDE OF AMERICA!!!-0

You are absolutely correct owen, we simply hate Canada's Thanksgiving...I don't know what it is, but ALL mods hate it (thus why you can't post it in GD)
But then again, since this is getting merged we must hate World Standards Day too
