Ah he beat me to it. Yes Texas Tech takes its first loss of the season to fall to 7-1 in a tough home loss to last year's champ. (I guess thats the way to go if you have to) About to improve to 8-1 with a stunning 2nd half comeback against unranked Nevada who looked poised to hand TT their first loss a few days ago.

After a strange series of events over the weekend which saw Vermont and Temple swap conferences (Vermont to the A10 and struggling Temple to the America East) the Catamounts responded by opening up conference play with a 10 round victory on the road over GW (3721704).

Asked prior to the game about the stunning defection to the stronger A10 senior cocaptain Mike Trimboli said that, "Yeah it's a little weird, but the fact of the matter is we're loaded this year and we probably would have won nearly all our AE games anyway, it's always good to play some tougher competition." When asked about the strange coaching move that saw Mike Lonergan replaced with the former coach of Temple Plash Ricrem, Trimboli chose his words carefully, "Look we certainly played well under Coach L, but we just never were able to finish the close ones (One should remember the firing occurred only hours after Vermont's heartbreaking overtime loss Friday at Maryland). Is coach Plash young? Sure, but I think he brings a youthful vigor to the way he approaches the game, and his schemes aren't that much different then L's. I think we'll be able to transition smoothly."

There were certainly no kinks on Monday night as Vermont was able to use its solid help defense to keep the game close throughout the first half before pulling away in the second. Coach Plash Ricrem noted "I was afraid it was going to be a low scoring affair (no cards map) and for the first half we kept them in check pretty well (no bonuses). Once the 2nd half began and they weren't able to get some shots falling (bad dice) we were able to capitalize and get out on transition (collect a couple of bonuses) that really turned the match. I certainly hope this winning streak (2 games) is the beginning of something special."

Memphis gets back on track with a win at Maryland (Game 3721605).

The Tigers, now 6-4, pulled off their first true road win by securing the defensive rebound advantage early (locked up a bonus) and challenging the Terrapins by rebounding on offense (busting their bonus a couple times). After a brief back-and-forth, Memphis seized control. Maryland challenged for the lead with a couple of late runs but, as often happens, ran out of energy shortly after taking the lead (had to exhaust their troops getting the territory advantage). A late run put the Tigers in control and allowed them to close out the game.

"It was a hard fought victory," Memphis AD Huntyr Green said, in attendance because he lives in Maryland and, in an odd choice, commutes to Tennessee. "I'm proud of our young men, going into an ACC school and coming out with the 'W.' I expect this will give us some momentum as we're heading into the conference season."

#14 USC trailed by as many 24 points late in the first half, but rallied on the home to win a tough game at Oregon. Oregon who came out shooting nearly 75% in the first first saw that decrease to only 13% in the second under a heavy USC press. Coach DB said after the game, that at half he did not say much to his team for he could see the hunger and frustration on the faces of the starting 5 and knew he was going to get a 110% effort from these guys in the second half. Now USC travels to the championship of O'Reiley Auto Part tournament against #6 Virginia Tech.

After winning its first game of the season over Ohio, Xavier continues its hot hand as they roll over #5- Air Force in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Tournament Consolation Round and then follow with a quick win over Wichita State.

Coach Limbo commented after the road victory over Witchita State:

"It feels great to have finally shaken off the rust during the last few games heading into conference play. We've been playing solid ball games now and we're not getting caught off guard. Tonight it looked like Witchita was going jump out to an early lead, but we played some solid defense and by the 8th Round we had put ourselves in a position to win. That's all I can really ask for."

The Mountaineers opened on the road today to a Seton Hall team unable to throw WV off their game. WV and KS State are the only 2 teams to beat 4 top 20 teams this season. Asked what the tough non-conference early schedule has been like, coach Roz replied, "We have played some of the toughest teams early in the season - we have been the underdog more than expected. Our boys have come to win. Getting a win in our Big East opener means a lot to our players and fans. We have heard through the grapevine that Cinncy thinks they are the team to beat this year - but we would like to think we have a say in that matter."

Good Luck coach - good to see the enthusiasm back in the Mountaineer locker room.

Fresno State defeats Bowling Green in 11 rounds for its first home win of the season, then remains perfect on the road against Purdue. The Bulldogs head into conference play boasting a 5-3 record, with home games against Hawaii (2-6) and UNLV (4-5).

With a fast-paced offense and pressure defense reminiscent of what many of the high schools in the area run, the undersized Bulldogs are poised to make a run through the WAC/Mountain West, which has proven to be the weakest league in the NCAA this year.

"Recruiting violations? I don't know anything about recruiting violations," Fresno State coach Steve Cleveland said in response to a question about Hawaii's big men.
