Either make it a hell of a lot better (change territories, less water, give it a theme, change graphics, change everything) or forget about it quickly

I hate that people give opinions on maps that aren't in development and don't comment on other people's. ahem. not that I'm bitter or anything

I wouls rather have my toenails ripped off, drenched in poison, and reapplied via hot glue gun then ever play this map.

Why bother?

If you don't have your own ideas at this early stage then why even try?

okay, done dissing this map. Here's what you need to do:

*Make the center island one continent
*Make the lower three continents into two continents
*Do the same with the top

Did you crop out the rest of the map? All i see is a little nugget in a large sea with some playable areas wedged in the corners.

You are right in that the other attempts at Pangea failed because they were pretty much remaking the classic map.

But I think Pangea could work with a lot of Imagination and thinking outside of the classic map.

sbrylski, please have a go at making this map, but before you do, check out the others and find why they didnt work, then do what they didn't.

Then, put a lot of work and imagination into it and post again.

With this one you will need to make a really good attempt before posting and asking people what they thing.

This one will never work if you post a vague map then ask people what you should do.

Yeah, I didn't want to do too much work right away if it wouldn't have any interest.

It seems like a Pangea map is something that would be popular if done right, of course. I'll put a lot more work into it and then repost again.

Also, you don't think plopping the classic territories on the map would be interesting enough? There are obviously going to be different attack routes over the water, and even some terriorites on different continents. (India, Middle East, South and Western Europe, Indonesia...) Any quick suggestions? I personally think other peoples' "fantasy maps" are rather uninteresting, so I really don't want to make up my own territories.

I, for one, think that using the same names for territories that we do today is OK, if gameplay is unique.

On a side note, Pangea was originally divided into two parts; Gondwana and Laurasia. You might want to use them for bonuses.

Here is an idea for some names, found on Wikipedia:

sbrylski, that has been tried over and over and not worked. if you check them out you will see what i mean.

you really have to try something different to make it work.

Well, I'm obviously adding more territories. Why would you say unplayable? Its barely started?

And what would make it more playable? I hate the giant lump landmass, so I'll make strategic "isthmuses" over the channels and seas.

Yeah, this one does look more playable than the other attempts, keep going with it.

How's this for imaginitive:

A dynamic map charting the spread of the continents over the past 250 million years.

It would start out as a true Pangea, rather than the Gondwanaland/Laurasia set-up I have above. Each turn, a new map is generated with the continents slowly sliding apart. As they get farther apart, some of the over-water connections break up. Eventually, after about 15 turns, the map becomes the classic. I could even go farther and use projected continent shifts to go beyond the 15 turns.

Would something like this even be possible? I might want to spend a couple turns on each map just to save myself a bit of work.

Thoughts?

EDIT: For you visual learners...
