First, you should be using the latest version of BOB, stocksr's greasemonkey script, which you can obtain from here:
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8801
Then once you have installed the script you need to use the Greasemonkey Menu (on the upper left hand side of the page in a game window) to set the Text Map to ON.
Good luck.

The script isn't working. I've had it installed for a while now, but it just disappeared. It's not on my list of installed scripts and when I try to reinstall it, it says it's already installed.
This is a known bug in greasemonkey, you will need to delete the script file from your profile folder manually, I am posting from my phone or I would provide detailed instructions
Now there is dedication... Hang on - I'll help...
Scripts will be located in the following folder...
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\cdheyiiz.default\gm_scripts
(Modify for your username on your PC)
Delete them from there and hey presto...
C.
This didn't work. I did, however find a roundabout solution. I had to uninstall greasemonkey and install version 0.7.

It does not update automatically (which we would probably not want it to do anyway). You must go to the Utilities and Plugins for Conquer Club sticky topic at the top of the General Discussion forum here:
http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8801
The one you want is called stocksr's greasemonkey script (soon to be known as BOB).
If you haven't kept up with the new releases you may have to do a one-time configuration using the Greasemonkey Menu on the left side of a a game window to set up your preferences, once the script is installed.
Good luck.

Remember custom fade setting for each map
The fade is great, but I need more fade on some maps to make them readable than I need on others.
I have no 'official' knowledge, but I do know that Rob has this one in mind. Perhaps we will see it in BOB v1.0 ...
Sparqs, on 30 May 2007, wrote:Click fills-in Attacker/Defender
It would be nice if clicking on a country filled in the appropriate select box, saving me from choosing from the list.
Again no official knowledge, but I think this one has been discussed before and I believe because of a lack of information in the XML for each map this is not currently possible.
Sparqs, on 30 May 2007, wrote:Toggle stats and text map
When examining the log to determine what happened, referring back to the map is made more difficult by the stats and text map. Rather than click through various modes and waiting for redraw, it would really help to twiddle a control and hide those displays temporarily. As a workaround, an option to switch the log between it's current position and above stats would suffice.
I like this one. In fact I like Sparqs workaround better than the initial suggestion.
I'm not sure how best to incorporate it into the menu though ... since there are already so many options on the menu another one/two for Stats and Text Map position would be less than perfect.
How about Stats having the options 'Standard above map|Standard below map|Extended above map|Extended below map|Off' ... ?
And similarly for Text Map ?
I don't think so, too unwieldy ...

Can you add a attack chart? Some small grid which shows how many territorys each color has taken from each other color.

I saw in another thread that this is apparently high on the CC UI to do list, so perhaps not a priority for BOB. Yet, I'm unclear on why this wouldn't be possible with the current info. I've gotten excited over a map idea and distracted from greasemonkeying, so I can't say for sure, but: Can't you read a click from the same area that currently registers hovering? I'm sure clicking on army circles would be fine - it doesn't need to register the whole country area.
In fact, I wonder if CC will ever register country-clicks as opposed to army-clicks. As you point out, the xml doesn't have country boundaries and adding them would make it much more difficult for users to create maps, plus the chore of updating the many existing ones.

Sparqs is correct, however the actual problem I have been pondering over is how to handle the fortification stage.
Depoly is easy, click to select
Attack is also easy - if you click on a territiory you own then it is FROM if you click on one you don't it is TO.
Fortification is the tricky one - please post suggestions, when we have a feasible, LOGICAL, idea for how to handle that stage, I will get to work implementing it. When making suggestions remember that in TEAM games you can fortify your team mates as well.

stocksr wrote:Fortification is the tricky one - please post suggestions, when we have a feasible, LOGICAL, idea for how to handle that stage, I will get to work implementing it. When making suggestions remember that in TEAM games you can fortify your team mates as well.
How about this:
When in fortify phase, clicking a country you own selects it, puts up the highlight square (maybe white?), and fills in the FROM box.
If a country is selected and you click an eligible country, it fills in the TO box.
If you click on the selected country, it is deselected and the highlight is removed.
[
Edit: I was just thinking that you want hover to work while deciding on a destination country. Can you leave up the white square while you show/hide squares for hovering?]
Once you fortify and the page reloads, it would be helpful if it remembered the TO box - making it easier to aggregate a stack. I suppose you could do it the other way around and remember the select state, but I think that would be intrusive, and probably less useful.
Also, some way to reduce the number of times I have to bring up the "number of armies" list would be nice. Remembering the setting during the phase would help - but if that might cause problems for people, maybe some radio buttons would work. I suspect "2" is a common choice.
[
Edit: Thanks for the error checking, yeti_c.]

I agree with Rob here - this is the trickiest one... and I reckon Lack is having the same problem...
With a mouse of course you do have at least 2 buttons to use...
You could capture a left click on the country as from.
You could capture a right click on the country as to.
Alternatively - double click could work - but may not.
C.
PS Sparqs - be careful with your terminology - you mentioned "Deploy" when actually you mean "Fortify".

OK, I like where you are heading with this, from an interface point of view, but I do have some concerns, for example what would happen if you selected the first one by clicking on the map, then changed the drop down.

Sorry, this is not a direction that we want to take BOB in, BOB will never remember things from one turn to the next. Please post a suggestion in the suggestions forum though as I think this would be an easy thing for Lack to add. (remember to use the form from the sticky or you will be hounded out of the forum)

This is more possible for BOB, but I think it would be better if lack did it. again please post a suggestion.
I would love to see an ALL option in there, that moves as many as is possible. save me having to subtract 1 from the army count then find that number.

Right clicks are problematic, (but not insurmountable) because the default behaviour for a right click is to show the browser context menu.
Please keep the suggestions comming.

this may be a shocking idea or already suggested, but for fortification maybe some kind of click and drag idea could be used? i know thats vague but im not really in the know about these kind of things so if its good u guys can run with it if not just ignore

I think the simplest answer is to clear BOB's selection state if the user changes the drop down.
I think the preferred answer is to have the highlight box change to the selected country. In fact, it might be nice for people if it always highlighted the selected source country. Perhaps not on page load, but after adjusting the drop down, even if you haven't clicked on the map.

Click and Drag won't work without add-ons being installed that some people won't like...

Rob,
Here's some code for banning right clicks and some key presses...
Would be easy to recode.
C.
Code: Select all
var _banBrowserControls=true;
if (_banBrowserControls == true)
{
document.onkeydown = _keyboardControls ;
document.oncontextmenu = _contextMenu ;
}
function _keyboardControls()
{
if (event.keyCode==122)
{
_banEvent("F11") ;
return false ;
}
if (event.altKey && event.keyCode==37)
{
_banEvent("Alt-Left Arrow") ;
return false;
}
if (event.altKey && event.keyCode==39)
{
_banEvent("Alt-Right Arrow") ;
return false;
}
if (event.ctrlKey && event.keyCode==78)
{
_banEvent("Ctrl-N") ;
return false;
}
if (event.ctrlKey && event.keyCode==82)
{
_banEvent("Ctrl-R") ;
return false;
}
if (event.keyCode==116)
{
_banEvent("F5") ;
return false;
}
}
function _contextMenu()
{
_banEvent("Right Click") ;
return false ;
}
function _banEvent(msg)
{
event.cancelBubble = true;
event.keyCode = 0;
alert("Using " + msg + " is not supported when using InsuranceFaces") ;
}

I know that we're thinking mostly about fortifying since it is more complex but how about the following suggestion for deployment:
Change the menu option from "Confirm Deploy" with "On|Off" as the options to "Deploy" with "Standard|Confirm|Click" as the options.
"Standard" - as now; with confirm off.
"Confirm" - as now; with confirm on.
"Click" - dropdown not used. A single click on your territory deploys a single army to that territory.
Because point and click is so intuitive I think the number of armies being deployed would have to be pretty high before single clicking became onerous.
Anticipating that perhaps it certainly will become onerours at some point the options could become "Standard|Confirm|Click 1|click 2|click 4" or similar ?
