Wisse, I feel the emboss is perfectly in style with the rest of the map and the shadows on the title and territories. I'd leave it Guiscard.

Wow. Finally found time to crank up photoshop:
*Sorted out the issue with the 'i's to the best of my ability.
*Played around a little with the background of the legend. I think it looks a bit better with rounded corners. Not so 'blocky'.
*Smoothed out the pixellated borders as far as i can see. If there are still some then let me know where they are and I'll get right on it (I'm good like that

)
I'll get cracking with the XML and small version soon.

...you want to give both on more, although there are so many more territories in yellow?
Nah, gameplay's been covered, I think. Although I prefrred grey withonly 4 territories, or one border :shrugs:
Anyhoo Guiscard, great work, now when can we freaking play it! It's awesome already!

*Title updated
Do you mean the yellow line around the legend? Just added that to match the title, but it can go no problem.
As for bonuses and gameplay, they've been hashed out already really...

Guiscard I am not 100% sure about this...but shouldn't Yenisay be Yenisei?
Isn't that one of the longest rivers in the world that passes through modern day China and Russia?

You are indeed correct in that the region is named after the river. In my research I came accross three spellings: YenisAY, YenisEY and YenisEI. Pretty much all the historical maps used YenisAY or EY, whereas modern political boundry maps used Yenisei. After you mentioned it, however, I've decided it probably would be better to change it to the modern version. I had previously used the AY ending because I took the majority of the territory names from one historical map and it was used there.
Thanls for bringing it up.

I can certainly try. What kind of thing needs doing though??? I can't really think of what would make it look less 'strange' other than getting rid of the yellow outline, which I'll do in the next update.

actually the biggest problem is not the yellow outline it's the black border. it makes the desert seem like a territory.
try something like this. i'm sure you can do better than me.

i have a good one:
go to layer style
than to pattern overlay and select Stucco
put the opacity to 31% and the scale to 91%
than go to bevel emboss and do this:
