          Beta - Quenching

---The Final Forge period has concluded for the Knights Map. All objections have had their time. The Foundry and I hereby brand this map with the Foundry Beta Brand. Let it be known that this map is now ready for BETA Play. After an extended period of time in BETA and once all quirks and issues have been resolved, the map will be put into Full Play (barring any Lack vetoes).

Conquer Club, enjoy!

              Image

While the map is in BETA Play, there are a couple of administrative tasks that are required of the mapmaker(s) in addition to the initial gameplay testing:
    1. Please ensure that the first post of the thread contains all the necessary information to help future visitors to the development thread; it's particularly important to ensure the most recent images are there, along with any helpful guides (such as gameplay quirks/nuances or the location/size of any starting neutrals etc.)
    2. Finally, it is the responsibility of the mapmaker(s) to ensure that they respond to further feedback in a timely and constructive manner.

Rather difficult to play a speed game on, I must say. Granted, dazza and I played Flat Rate, but we went all the way to the Round Limit - lucky for those, otherwise we would have probably stalemated.

Yup. I really like the map though. Something differant. Will take some getting used to but I like it.

I think 5 troops is too many to be automatically getting each round. Also can you make it so there is some sort of objective here?

I've been periodically checking this thread over the last couple months. I saw no way this map would be fun and was stunned to see it progressing. Like a good train wreck...I just couldn't look away.

Then I played it...once.

Absolutely love it.

Thank you! I'm converted. :D :D :D

@ swimmerdude and vic ... I've been looking forward to this for ages

First game I screwed up right royally, two player, but I quickly realised where I went wrong.

Game 2 was a three player with fog thrown in for good measure ... it was a truly bizarre but fun game. i won it too, which always makes it better!

5 troops each round works out perfectly. If it were any less then the game would drag, as it is so complex to play. Any more and I agree that would be unfair. It's realatively easy to get the bonuses but really hard to keep them!

So far so good. Well done playing the game Vic - preaching to the converted here of course, but brilliant you played it! And I see you lost your first game swimmer and are awaiting to play you're second. I'll be interested to find out how you go!

Thanks for making it live nobodies.

Thanks guys for playing the map and leaving the feedback. I have just joined a couple of games now as off to work but will play tonight and look at all feedback then. Glad you like it though.

Quick question - why is movement only limited to 2 forwards 1 side. In chess you can go 1 forward 2 side with a knight also?

Just curious - Does it make the XML far too awkward to do?

Cheers

I thought LOL but then I though ... hmm ... maybe you are serious! Have a look at the key. One forward and two to either side or two forward and one to either side or one back and two either side or two back and one either side ... just like a knight in chess!!

On 4 player games G2 seems to be starting with 1 neutral, I think this is a mistake?

Game 10806861
Game 10807398
Game 10807479
Game 10808694

You are right, you can do that, and you can do that in this one as well. Think about it. ;)

As for the queary over the 5 troops per round, if any ideas on raising or lowering them, I am all ears but would like to wait for a couple of weeks and see what the results of games are. Most seem to be going near round 20 so it seems to be a long game map.
