The Rutgers have won two in a row to get to 3-4. They are quickly moving up the standings of the Big East. The team has also won 3 out of their last 4 since starting 0-3. The fans are hopeful that they have a team that can make the NCAA Tournament.

Air force drops to 3-4 after a loss in which the refs (dice) heavily favored the opposition. Air force is probably going to drop out of the top 20 but hopes to make another appearance up there later in the season!

this is probably a stupid question, but - if i never got a Game 6, is that because of the roll-over from being in a Game 5 tournament? do tournaments always represent 2 'normal' games? just curious.

must say - I'm impressed with how much work you put into this tourney, flexmaster - I don't think I could pull this off.

also - some of the 'press conference' posts are very funny, so in the spirit of things, someone needs to explain why Xavier is off to an 0-4 start (and soon to be booted in the first round of the O'Reilly tournament).

NEW XAVIER COACH LOSTAT LIMBO AT A PRESS CONFERENCE EARLIER THIS EVENING:

"As you all know, the team has gotten off to a very rough start this season and its disappointing to fans and the players and disappointing to me. I'm not here to point any fingers or make excuses, we simply have not lived up to our potential on game day. The loss of two home games is especially disconcerting, where we have repeatedly let wins slip away from us late in the game. The guys are out there, playing their hardest, but it seems lady luck favors our opponents in the final minutes. But I told the players and I'm telling you now, that we're not going to let that hold us back. A good team does not rely on luck and we must play harder to avoid putting ourselves in a position to lose these close games. Questions? You there."

"Yes, Coach Limbo, do you believe this team still has a shot at competing once conference play begins?"

"You know, a lot of people would like to count us out at this point, but I think we can pull ourselves back up, start winning some games and make something out of this team. The A10 is a small conference and I truly believe we can be contenders."

Yes...tournaments represent two regular game sets...so if you played a tournament that started in the Game 3 set...that tourney would be your Game 4 as well.

Tournament Game: 2008 College Basketball Season - Game 7 — Houston @ Toledo

George W Bush reporting for College Hoops Radio.

Houston beat Toledo this evening in what can only be described as a very one sided game.

Luis Scola led the way for Houston with 23 points and nine rebounds as they defeated Toledo, 100-59, at the catfishjohnson stadium.

Yao Ming added 19 points and 12 boards for the Rockets, Ron Artest chipped in 17 points and 11 rebounds before leaving in the final minute after twisting his right ankle. Tracy McGrady had eight points and was also forced from the game with a left knee injury early in the second half.

"With Tracy, he said his knee was sore and to put him back in when he's limping and it's bothering him, makes no sense to me," said Rockets coach Rick Adelman. "He said he could go back in, but we had the lead so he was better off on the bench."

Toledo remain bottom of the table with this their sixth defeat in seven games, attendances at the stadium are falling as disgruntled fans stay away.

A sizable contingent of Houston supporters made the journey to the catfish stadium to cheer their team on to victory and at the end of the game they taunted the Toledo fans singing "Can we play you every week"!!!

I'm completely confused as to whether the last post was a Bush joke or not... But, anyway, I'd like to point out, for the sake of my sanity, to wrexham that his Houston team is the Cougars of the NCAA and not the Rockets of the NBA. You can check out their web site at http://www.uhsa.uh.edu/.

There. Now I am sane again.

The Memphis Tigers drop the afore-mentioned USC re-match (Game 3660209) and another game against Seton Hall (Game 3658523), also in Texas.

Coach John Calipari complained after the game. "We were told the Seton Hall game was a tournament game. Then we were told, mid-match, that we were instead intended to play USC for the second time this season and that that was in fact our tourney game. I subbed out all of our starters and went with them to the new game, but they couldn't come up with the energy to play two games back-to-back and were blown out by USC after a close start. And when we get back to Seton Hall, the back-ups and the assistant coaches had thrown that one for us! Honestly, I don't know what to think..."

Huntyr Green, Memphis' Athletic Director, was quick to cushion his coach's comments. "I'd like to make it clear that coach Calipari does not speak for the University of Memphis, its students, its alumni, or its third party Conquer Club managers. We were not dis-advantaged in any way, and the Trojans and Pirates earned their victories. That dude's a jerk, not me."

Memphis returned home to find itself ranked. They promptly responded with a victory over the Syracuse Orangemen (Game 3676153). #16 Memphis, who will likely fall out of the rankings because of their two losses this week, is now 6-3 but remains a perfect 4-0 at home.

"Nobody puts Baby in the corner," senior Robert Dozier echoed once more, "and nobody beats a Tiger in its own den."

I was rather confused myself, but I must say - reading his post in a GW accent was quite amusing.

BTW, I'm not particularly fond of this tourny setup (Vegas invitational). Map is not that great, especially when you have a flat rate for the spoils. Can get very unfair. [-X

Temple's woes continue as they lose their sixth game in a row following a 12 round defeat at home to Miami of Ohio (3676157). Coach Ricrem with a steely gaze addresses the media after the game...

(Motioning to a ball boy, he hands him his fabled flaskk and whispers something to him before sitting down at the podium. The boy scampers off.)

"Well, I'm almost at a loss of reasons for why we keep losing, but I think I'll bring up another one today. We were robbed by the refs. Now I'm sure the NCAA won't be happy to hear this, but this was the worst officiating I"ve seen in a game since the George Mason Vermont game I watched on Saturday. And before you get on me for spending my weekend watching UVM play instead of scouting Miami, perhaps I enjoy watching my Alma Matta play just a little more then I do scouting a team that predictably goes on to defeat us again."

"Now in regards to this evening's game, I thought we played well. Our swirling help defense (using a bevy of 3 army attacks on a larger force to weaken opponents) worked well early, and I really thought we were in a position to at least push the back and forth game to a big lead (acquire a continent). Then the refs stepped in. They started calling everything on us, 5 second violations after 3.5, illegal screens, PALMING? I don't think i've seen a palming call in like 2 years. This blatant bias towards Miami (I was attacking a neutral territory 10-3 to secure a bonus and lost 9 to 1) really hurt us."

"But we were able to persevere and got great production off the bench (3 mixed sets) to keep hanging around. Unfortuantly every time one of our guys hit a big shot so did they (matching me set for set). It really came down to execution in the 2nd half, they went on a solid run (undermanned like 16 v. 17 to take said bonus) and we weren't able to convert when it mattered most (A crucial 8-5 attack to cancel the bonus resulted in me losing 6 armies and scrambling to get a card) essentially cost us the game."

"Well, I'd really love to chat, but I"ve just been informed that our next game against Santa Clara is about to start. Talk about a short turnaround...."
