Theres always someone thinking of you :)

This is slightly related so I thought I'd quote this.

What about the four stations with multiple paths? I'm not saying they definitely should have all the letters on them, but I think it warrants discussion.

Everyone station except these four have the letters. Obviously players will see this as significant and hopefully will pay more attention, but is it too much to ask for them to figure out what rails these stations all represent?

Sorry I don't quite remember how the stations will appear in the XML, but can this be counted on? Probably it should be visually quite clear. I'm not saying it's not clear but obviously I wouldn't be posting this if I didn't feel this could confuse a good amount of people.

BTW, the stations I'm talking about are

KLN
VEN
FLN
SOF

This version 26 is the solution to the last fourstations, but also moves to again a minimalist colour position on that stations.

cairns-

Like what you did with KLN, VEN, FLN, SOF.

Why not do that with HAM, LON, IRN, MRS (the married station!:)), NCE, ROM, ATH & IST too?

Did I miss something in an earlier post? Seems to me that this would clear up quite a bit of space, add some consistency, and really make the "don't attack across the tracks" rule even more obvious (ie. LAU is layed out differently than VEN, therefore the rules at that station are different).

Mmmm, i think you missed something in the game play....those 4 stations like florence have only one army on them

the others have two or three armies on them therefore have to be shown that way.

London is the same as Los Angeles in RAIL USA except because there are more european stations they have to be laid out vertically instead of horizontally.

WM...can you advise what strokes/brushes you used to mountains in RAIL USA please. I'd like to show something similar and see if ica acheieve that in Fireworks.

OK....no-one's commenting, so either no-one is interested or there's nothing left to comment on.

So while I am waiting for WM to cresate lines, i will split this map into two versions and make the large stations appropriate sizes.

HSL for helsinki doesn't work, as there isn't an L anywhere after the S. HEL looks better; since S and E are adjacent on a qwerty keyboard, i wonder if HSL was originally a typo.

i also prefer OSL for oslo, as i think OSO looks odd, but can live with that one. all other station codes seem to have logic.

at least "badapest" has now disappeared from the xml!

is it possible to line up the continent names on the bonus key?

ian. :)

You may also want to take the color out of the rail line in the imprtant gameplay grahpic.

I don't feel like reading right now, but for your sake, I think any posts are better than none:

Is there a reason that there are no connecting lines/rails?

##Acutally no posts on any of cairns maps is a sign its ready for ff,

Anyway if you had read any of cairns posts on this page you would know that WM is making the connetions for this map.

for sofia station the i and j colours should be switched.

also one curiosity question for the orient express line.

here's an image found on wikipedia:

Image

as seen in the image you chose the green orient express route. and this puzzles me because normally i would have went for the original route. i'm not asking you to change it cause it disrupt the current gameplay. but i'm just curious.

one more thing i noticed. in the important gameplay box, BUD has the 3 colours on it and on the map id doesn't

yes DiM, there is another site that has a timetable on it from the old Orient Expresses, and it show the train switching and adding/removing carriages at several points along those tracks, and being called something new or other.

I made the deicision that because there was not enough room around South Germany/Austrai/Switzerland there would have to be some "artistic license" to create some good gameplay to get what you have now.

one more thing i noticed. in the important gameplay box, BUD has the 3 colours on it and on the map id doesn't

Thanks, i'll remove that. :)

Apart from a small adjustment to the legend. is there anything else that needs amendment before the rail lines area added.

Not a request for a change, just a question out of curiosity.

How/Why did you decide to do KLN & BER (for example) differently? Is there a real life reason behind this, or just for variety in game play?

Lookin' gooooooooooood!

Uh oh...

Just noticed that in the large map legend for L: Trenitalia there is no bonus.

There are no bonuses listed in the small map legend.

Wow, it's been a while since I poked my head in here. Thanks for the explanation Cairns!

Eagerly awaiting rails, and, as I mentioned above, lookin' goooood!

There is no real life reason...more gameplay and also real estate on the map...I have tried to create lines that cross each other at some sort of regeular intervals. To have too many stations with a couple of armies on each would create boring gameplay, therefore i threw in a couple of bottlenecks.

Uh oh...

Oops... i'll fix that shortly.
