Each would start with 19 if you counted correctly. That is good because the first person can't make the second person start with 1 less army by taking one territory. So the first person to take their doesn't have an advantage.
--lanyards
Bringing this up from the previous page, I count 53 terits (or 52 because Moscow will be neutral). In that case, each player would start with 17 terits, and the first player would have to take 3 places from the second in order to make him get one less army. Just thought I'd mention it.

Looking great guys!
Regarding the copyright of the image... (Lenin)... It would be highly unlikely that anyone (perhaps barring some old museum curator) would ever have issues with the use of an image of a historical figure.
I'm looking forward to playing this map. It has a kindof "Qwert" feel to it, and his maps are amoung my favorites. Nice work!

Huh, I was never really going for a qwertish style, but I guess it did turn out that way. I actually got a lot of ideas from Great Lakes, originally.

Can I get an XML check on this anytime soon? I figure I won't be changing any more borders or names, unless I get some last minute comments.
Thanks Coleman and anyone else who's willing to give it a look.

soviet names in kazakhstan: almaty was alma ata, karagandy was karaganda and aktobe was aktyubinsk. although i've just spotted the obscure town of leninsk in the same region as baikonur, the latter is reasonably well-known as a launch site for space rockets, so is probably a better name for that territory.
http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/commonwe ... l_1991.gif
the one continent name that i'd change is southeast russia, to southern siberia. any place in russia which is that far away from moscow tends to be referred to as part of siberia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siberia
my only other suggestion is to give yakutia only a 3 bonus, to make it the same as kazakhstan, since it has virtually identical characteristics, including being next to a small continent.
we're moving ever closer...

You have to say it like this: Pepperonibread, are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist party?

Hey Pep, I'm a little concerned that the bonus legend could be misread. Specifically, the Far East bonus I assume is a +2, but since you're using the backwards letters of the cyrillic alphabet the 2 really looks like a 5. And any thought of using a colon instead of a dash between each terit name and the bonus? People will figure it out, but at first glance I thought I would be picking up a minus 1 for Moscow.
I still wish those rivers went somewhere, but I guess that's Gimil's department.
Also in the area of graphics, kinda of strange that the rivers cast a shadow. In fact, the banks of the rivers are so soft they make the borders look kinda blurry.

I'll see what I can do with the legend. Also, about the rivers, their shadows are going in the opposite direction relative to the rest of the map, to make it look like they're sort of in a valley. I guess it didn't turn out that way, tho, I'll work with the shadows or take them out altogether. Thanks oak.

New Update:
Large:
Small:
Large Test:
Small Test:
Large 3-Digit Test:
Small 3-Digit Test:
Changes:
-Name changes (Almaty to Alma-ata, Karagandy to Karaganda, Aktobe to Aktyubinsk).
-Lessened shadows on the river (I still liked them a little, the rivers kind of looked blank without them).
-Replaced dashes in bonus legend with colons.
-Gave Yakutia a 3 bonus.
-Renamed Southeast Russia continent Southern Siberia.
-Moved Aktyubinsk name and army circle.
-Adjusted XML accordingly.
To do:
-It's been suggested to lower W. Republics bonus down to two, and I was just reminded of that by PM. That'll be in the next update.
-Comments?

A bit concerned of Lvov and Byelorussia on the small 3-digit map. Other than that, looks great.

I also just noticed that Baikonur and Uzbekistan could be a problem. I'll rearrange these in the next update.

The river near Tuva seems to 'wash over' some of the black border lines (rather than replacing them like in other parts of the map).
As for Western Republics being knocked down to 2 Bonus Armies, it is essentially the same continent as Far East and Central Asia, which are currently 2 Bonus Armies.
Western Republics
4 Territories
3 Borders
With 3 Attackable Border Territories
Central Asia
4 Territories
3 Borders
With 3 Attackable Border Territories
Far East
4 Territories
3 Borders
With 3 Attackable Border Territories
The only difference between them is Western Republics has the option to limit it's continental borders to just two, by expanding into Leningrad from either Baltics or Byelorussia (So Leningrad and Kiev would be borders). Far East and Central Asia do not have the same luxury to expand like that and limit possible borders.
So I'd knock either Western Republics down to 2 Bonus Armies...because then all of the Identical Continents are valued the same...
Hope I made some sense...

Thanks, another reason that's also been brought up is that it's easy to expand to Moscow (+1 bonus) from there. I should have the updated pics (with the army circle movements) sometime tonight.
EDIT: Scratch that, they won't be up until tomorrow.

If they were flipped they'd look like 5s. Try it

he means turned 180 degrees. to him, I think, it looks like someone took a 5 and did a horizontal flip with it.
