Week 15 - Indianapolis defeats Oakland

Okay, the standings are now updated, and all games that should be active are now active. We have all of our NFC playoff teams determined, but we need a handful more games to finish before we can determine the seeding.

As for the AFC we have 5 of 6 teams clinched and need a few games to finish to find the last team and determine the seeding. :)

Keep playing hard, this should solidify in the next few days.

If I'm reading this correctly (and I could easily be wrong), the last AFC spot is up for grabs between the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets at 8-8, the Raidahs at 8-7, and the Colts at 7-7. If all 3 finish at 8-8, which by definition means all 3 would have conference records of 6-6, how will the tiebreaker be resolved? (I think Colts beat the Raiders during the season, and Jets faced neither team).

Thanks, and thanks also for a great tournament, lotta' fun.

Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere in this 18-page thread.

I'm praying that the dice gods don't let that happen. :) However, in case it does, I'm double checking things today to see what the tie-breaker situation will be.

It should go as such:

1. Head to Head
2. Division Record
3. Conference Record
4. (I'm going to have to figure out, let's hope that doesn't happen. :))

Standings have been updated with a couple more completed games, but still not the right ones for me to seed the playoffs.

If you are trying to mimic the NFL, then division records should not be a tiebreaker. Division records are only used to break ties within the same division (i.e., for a division title) and are not a tiebreaker when selecting wildcards.

Then what do you suggest I use following the Conference Records?

Right now, we (the Jets) are in the clubhouse at 8-8. Raiders are 8-7 and look to be in trouble in their week 16 contest. Colts are 7-8 and their week 16 contest is too early on to make a decent projection in my opinion (only round 4 and it's on the world 2.0 map).

Assuming a tiebreaker between just us and the Raiders, my recommendation would be to just use the most tried and true tiebreaker method out there, which is of course alphabetical order. Up to you if you want to use the city name or the team nickname. 8)

Of course, if the Colts are involved, this tiebreaker would be grossly unfair to all involved.

All kidding aside, here's how the NFL breaks ties for wildcards (assuming all tied teams are from separate divisions, which in this case they would be):

1. Head-to-head (only applies if there's a sweep)
2. Conference record
3. Record in common games (minimum of 4 games)
4. Strength of victory (I think this means combined record of the teams you beat)
5. Strength of schedule
6. Best combined ranking within the conference in points scored and points allowed
And so on... (they go out to step 11, which is a coin toss).

I'm pretty sure us, the Raiders and the Colts, if all finish at 8-8, will still be tied after step 2 above, so I guess I'd recommend proceeding to steps 3 and 4...but I'm not looking to create work for you here, and I'm happy to assist if you'd like in digging through this...or not. Whatever you decide to do is absolutely fine, we appreciate all of the work you put into this tournament and whatever you decide to do on this, you won't get any griping from the J-E-T-S.

Thanks again Optimus.

New Standings and results are up. At the moment Detroit has clinched the #1 seed in the NFC, and the AFC has Denver at #1, Buffalo at #2, and Houston at #3. Other than that, the tie-breakers are so frickin' screwed up and it will take me hours to figure it out because I'm going to have to look up tons of games to find who goes where.

Because of that, I am going to have to wait until almost all Week 17 games are finished in order to get things sorted. At the moment there are way too many games that will influence tie-breakers for me to even bother making an attempt at it.

Week 17 Game 1550367 - Chicago defeats New Orleans - ends season on 5 game win streak - unfortunately, probably not enough to make the playoffs - but will carry momentum into next season.

Thanks OP for running the Tourney.

THANK YOU GOD!!!

Finally, the AFC has all of its playoff seeding finished, and the NFC just got a whole lot easier with certain teams winning and losing. All I need now is the result of the last Washington Redskins game and I'm in business to finish the seeding for the NFC as well.

I have added the playoff schedule to the first post for all who would like to see it. I will add the last NFC teams as that final game finishes and I calculate the tie-breakers.

As for the Jets, I know Easy n Dirty was hoping to get in, but New England and Baltimore bumped you out of contention. You were close though. :)

Nah - after my last post, I went back and checked and the Raiders would have deserved to go ahead of us even at 8-8 due to better record in common games and better strength of victory.

Thanks again, this was a fun tournament.

No problem, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think once we get the mass PM with the forum upgrade I'll think about running us another one. :)

FINALLY!

Okay, the playoffs are ready to begin and games will be going out today. Washington defeated Dallas yesterday to clear up the tie-breakers a bit for me.

Be ready, we are almost done!
