turn time
Instead of having so long to take turns, it would be *GREAT* to be able to limit the amount of time a player can take. How many Real Time games are ruined by one player not realizing/caring about RT?
make it an option for how long you can have for a round (even if there is only one other option of five minutes or so) and that would help out a ton!

Re: RT
RT game type
so instead of clicking Freestyle or sequential you select RT which means the game is freestyle but each round is limited to 1 hour which is good because you can play quicker games and it wouldn't be too diffucult to do.
Not a bad option. But also adding in 12hr or 8hr max turn limits would be a popular improvement. Frankly, I'd be eager to play Rt games as well as 8hr games. Maybe a 10min max?
BTW - for what we are told is one of the most popular requests, this one does seem to be taking a while to make it ....
Not a gripe ... well, maybe a little ...

8 hour game wouldnt work.
say there are 3 players.
player A makes his move at 10 in the morning
player B takes his turn 7 hours later at 5.
Player C goes 7 hours later at midnight.
Player A cant be expected to be awake at midnight or wake up before 8 just to play cc. I mean I would do it but normal people wouldnt

Spot on.
When I played risk at a friends house it worked out that anyone taking longer than 10 minutes to negotiate an alliance and another 5 to deploy and attack was just not very good at the game anyway, and it was more fun to play a whole game in a night. I think sequential 10/15mins a turn is definitely the way to go!!! A 3 hour real time game would be an excellent idea.

Yup, I'm with you. A 10 or 15 minutes RT game would work real well.
I understand the argument about an 8 hour game, but if people know what they're signing up for, then what's the problem? Maybe a 1 hour max? Or a 4 hour max?
All I know for sure is that I'm sick to death of waiting 24 hours for someone to miss a turn, then waiting another 24 hours for them to miss another turn ... etc. I've had games drag out for a week or more because people only logged on once a day - and sometimes not even that often. Makes the game drag for the rest of us that want things to move along quickly.

If you find a group of friends you can do this in a private game.
But if you don't have such a large committed group, maybe a more practical suggestion is to allow a game start option in which a time zone is incorporated.
Like choosing between
1) all over the world
2) N+S America
3) Europe + Africa + W-Russia +middle east
4) Far East + Australia + Oceania
This guarantees that everybody is capable of being on-line at the same part of the day.
Now I am in a few matches in which an Aussie has to wait for a Colombian who has to wait for another Aussie who has to wait for a dutchie... so the game progresses very very slowly

2 Player Game Time Limits
So is it just me or have others found people just evaporating from two player games? I sit, I play, I find myself suddenly waiting for people to take their turn for 24 hours because they were suddenly gone in the middle of a heated game with no words or comments. I know people are under no obligation to adhere to my schedule but it's a two player game already! How about reducing the 2 player game from 24 to 1 hour? In order to accomodate this I might even suggest putting a 15 minute limit on the Freestyle lockout so that a person couldn't lock their opponent out of a round by clicking start without enough time for the other to join the rounds.

no one can or will log in once an hour to keep up with a 2 player game
I'm sorry, I didn't realize that a two player game was supposed to take all year. I play the 2 player not to gain points but rather because it is quick. There are only two of us to wait on rather than 5 or 6. If you find that you in are a bad position and decide to use the clock as a weapon I think that's cheap. It's a tactic, but it's cheap. I'm just saying that the two player games are such that if you see your opponent is going to smash you unless you are able to take your turn without him being around then you have the opportunity now to make the clock your friend and it's annoying.
