What's hard to see? There's coloured areas, there's striped areas which are part of both areas. If you know a better way, you're welcome to share it.

On another note, this is not a simple map, despite being of average size, so it will not be for those who want simple and easy gameplay. There's plenty of simpler maps in CC for those who like simpler maps.

Yes I was mistaken! Bad me

Well, I guess bad me to!

I don't fully understand Bruce's confusion either, but I suppose it could be because we all know what everything is supposed to be, following the map thread so long.

The stripes in the NW of Korea are hard to see. All others are okay to me.

I forgot about Kyushu btw... I'll address it next.

The stripped areas are going to be a major issue. I am not sure how to fix it, but I think it needs to be fixed, unless you want Germany Revamp all over again...

Your opinion has been noted.

So far, no one else seems to be perceiving a problem. If beta testing reveals a larger scale perception of a problem with the map, I will re-assess the situation.

As I can see the stripes clearly, we'll move this and wait to see how many complaints there are in Beta.

Thanks Isaiah!

I'll be changing the colour on the large to match the small though, so there will be an update soon.

Again, the page count is aligned with the version number. Good, things are in order. Now excuse me, I have to go measure my fingernails.

Sorry to play the bad guy role but I'm not sure everything is in order or like it should be.....there're lot of things that leave us (MrBenn and myself) a bit perplexed....random tilted names, unclear font/names, unclear borders, bonus colors, stripes covered by numbers. :|
You should wait to think about your fingernails.

Yeah, obviously I have "random" tilted names. It's not like I spent days figuring out how to best fit the names, how to position them most aesthetically and moving each territory label where it fits optimally while leaving room for numbers and other features. But yeah, let's just call them "random".

Apart from space considerations, I'm going for a hand-drawn look - they didn't have many computers or printing equipment around 300-500CE. I would posit that having all territory labels straight and orderly would be detrimental to the style of the map, and the labels wouldn't fit as good in many places, especially the south.

And where exactly do you see "unclear borders" or "unclear fonts"?

This is total bullshit.

it looks cool. I like the way it looks like its printed on an old map. But there's some empty space in the top left corner that might need to be utilized for something maybe?

I'm afraid I echo natty here, I'm not so sure I see what the issue is... Maybe a fresh pair of eyes would have difficulty deciphering some of the names/borders/etc.? I can't find any iffy areas...

Nobodies means the 'm' in all the words is though to make out. The middle stick is near invisible. Just run through it with the pencil tool, it will take maybe five minutes.

They also have a hatred of borders ending at mountains. They want the mountains encircled like I did in South Africa. But personally, I think the mountains serve as obvious borders. Though Baekdu/Salsu looks a tad strange.

The only thing I'm really worried about is the striped areas on the small map... Especially Hanju. One possibility for Hanju would be to extend the borders westward and shrink the neighboring territories. That way there's more striped area for a player to see.

Ok... from my side, I apologize for venting at the foundry mods... nothing against you guys, just been stressful times lately. Though I do have to remark, just once I would like to get a map to FF and have it proceed to beta without some huge issue hitting me out of the blue, lol.

Anyway, moving on... m letters, sure. Extending hanju to the west, sure. Mountains, encircled, wtf? That's an onerous thing to ask, the mountains are obvious impassables, and the form of the mountains is pretty obvious... There are lots of other maps with mountains of this style, without them being "encircled", and no one is confused by them. Baekdu/Salsu I can redraw.

are salsu and baekdu connected? it's hard to tell with the lines for the mountains merging with the border lines
mapmaking's tough, yes, but I can see you're good at it

It's not about 'encircled' mountains... it's about them looking good... it would be better for the territory borders to seamlessly blend into the mountains instead of abruptly disappearing - look at the mountains on the Wales map or Macedonia map to see what I mean.

Let me just make sure I have this right... you have a problem with the parts where the territory border ends in the fill of the mountains? And you'd rather have the territory borders connected with the lines of the mountains?

This can be done, but not for all of them - there's a few places where I'm afraid the mountains & borders are placed so that it's impossible to do so, but I'll see what I can do.

Funkyterrance is my "apprentice", and his first mission was to comment on a few maps, one being this one. Funkyterrance is colorblind, and I thought I should share his comments:
Funkyterrance wrote:I like the texture of the map, it looks like papyrus .
Ok I have to say that I can't see ANY of the colors on this
map. The territories as well as the ships look washed
out color-wise and are hard for me to see.
I don't mind if armies blend with territory colors since
I can always use color codes but when I can't place the map
with the legend I am really in trouble. Other issues I
can tell at this stage are that the impassable areas (mountains and
rivers) are somewhat hard to determine. The rivers are so close in
thickness to the borders that they look almost identical. Come
to think of it, I don't know if I am looking at rivers or borders.
For instance, is sabi surrounded by rivers? If so, how do you
attack it? I am guessing that they are actually borders but
if I was playing this map for the first time I would not be sure.
A good way to clarify the whole river issue would be just to
label them or even add some wavy lines. The only problem with
the mountain impassables is that the borders there are so thin
they blend in with the mountains. Thickening of the borders up there
would solve this. What the map seems to need is more definition as far
as color and borders are concerned. A more comprehensive legend that
made the faint colors less of an issue would suffice if you are really
attached to the color scheme but the border thickening seems
pretty imperative. The gameplay for this map
should make for some pretty complex strategies. Nice work.

I realize there are no rivers, but I imagine there is some issue with the blue of the water and the thin black lines of the borders.

The map has been checked through colourblind filters. If funkyterrance's colourblindness is of such a degree that he can't truly see the colours in this map, then there's nothing I can do about that.

About rivers, I don't know what he's on about. There's only three rivers on the map, all of them are much wider than any of the borders.

As for borders, I was just told to make the borders blend in with the mountains. I complied. Making the borders thicker would make the map fugly and I'm not going to do that.

Did you use the standard GIMP colorblind filters?
