I think it's good to go! I love the subtleties like the CC logo and the grass stripes and whatnot. Onward, I say!
**waits for Helix to tell me otherwise**

The territories that the fielders are "touching" (it's weird because it's 2-dimensional when your mind tries to tell you it's 3-d) assault the fielder, right?

Yes. Does it looks like that will be a clarity problem?

I think there should be some description, just so there isn't any confusion. Like I checked and there aren't really any ambiguous borders between the players and the field, but just the way you think about the field, your mind keeps telling you the players are "standing out of the screen" like in 3D, so it's a weird notion that they're actually straddling the different parts of the field.
Or maybe that''s just me.

That's better, but I think someone might take that as a one way assault from the fielder to the territory.

Since there's no other way to access the fielders, common sense should say that they are assaulted by field territories.
Let's not assume players are morons.

Yes, but you already know how the fielders connect, so it doesn't matter.

I think the arrows confuse things more, let's not assume that they know the fielders can be attacked by the territories they're touching by way of "there's no other way it has to be true". The arrows are clear indications of one-way attacks, always have been. So, let's drop the arrows. They don't even look that great graphically, either.

Actually, that's not true. Most maps that have arrows representing one-way assaults even have a legend text explicitly stating that the arrows are one-way assaults.

But why would anyone think otherwise? This is just confusing things more. Let's go back to the way you had it before, it worked fine.

Not bad, though I still think it's unnecessary. A better solution than the arrows nonetheless.

Not a fan of the arrows, but the circles work pretty well. Maybe tone them down a bit (or a lot) as right now they are a bit distracting.

This is getting closer to my original idea of having the fielders stand in the circles which in turn marked their territory boundaries. You'd just need to move the fielder icons up a bit. Not sure it'll really look good, though.
I definitely agree that the arrows were not clear and did look like one-ways.

Had to make them smaller since they were covering up some territory connections.

oh well...

Now will the army circles be centered around the bigger circles (at the players feet) or centered on the players?

I don't think army circles are necessary. We can put army numbers on the circles there already is. They may overlap with parts of the players feet at some but it shouldn't matter since they're wearing white. (Guess why I chose those colours for the fielders...)

I was thinking maybe in the background you could try to fit in a scoreboard or something, just so it doesn't look like they're playing in the middle of an abyss as much as it does now. We could be cliche and make it the "Turtles" vs. the "Monkeys". 3 to 2, bottom of the 9th, full count, 2 outs

On the subject of army numbers, I did a little field test
[bigimg]http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/9469/baseball11s88test.png[/bigimg]
Seems like the current circles are fine for army numbers, no extra circles necessary.
