Taken to the ER for too much pot?? I can't say I've ever heard of that before, and I've smoked/been around smokers for a long time. There had to have been some other drug involved there, if it was just weed you wouldn't have to go to hospital.

I'd rather be in a room full of people high than most pubs full of people drunk. Don't find too many fights being caused by people smoking pot (alcohol on the other hand...) But at the same time, if people don't want to smoke it themselves, then that's there choice, nothing worse than people trying to make you try some shit that you are not comfortable with (and its these situations generally that people have bad drug experiences, the peer pressure times)

I think that some people can take drugs and have a responsible habit. I consider myself one. I smoke weed a couple of days a week, and on special occasions i'll find myself dropping acid or magic mushrooms (sex on acid is possibly one of the best things ever) but I still go to work everyday, pay the bills.. etc. If I don't have money to buy weed, then I'll go without. It's pretty simple. It's only when people get habitual with their usage that shit starts going bad (I know a few of these)

I think people who end up drug dependent often started out with very low will power in the first place. In no way does my drug habit control me at all, I control it.

On a side note, and I think I've mentioned this before in a drug thread, (this is for the people of faith to think about) - the same part of the brain lights up during drug usage and prayer. Religion opiate of the masses? Maybe it's true in more ways than one

Well then that's that for you, and even if we legalized it you probably wouldn't touch it again, would you? Like cigarettes?

The point is that by legalizing it you don't pressure people to use it.

Why is marijuana treated any differently than alcohol, considering that it has similar intoxicative effects?

Cotton Industry of the United States in the early 20th century. Hemp was being used as a stronger, better alternative in clothing manufacture to cotton - and cotton started to lose its place in the industry.

Enter some individuals who worked in the cotton industry who didn't want to lose the profits that hemp manufacture would take from them, add some relatives in US congress, and you have a one way street to the insane propaganda that lead to the criminalisation of marijuana.

f*ck that. do NOT legalize marijuana, it will be the worst thing in the world for pot smokers (especially those from the united states hmm?)

If you legalize it, the first thing your going to do is put pot in the hands of large corporations.

yeah, those large corporations, the ones that get labels like "capitalist bastards" and get those labels for a reason. If marijuana gets legalized, I predict a short drop in price for it, and then a sharp and definite increase of the price.

Then, as is the way with all capitalist companies, these 'marijuana companies' will sell try to sell less for more. There are 2 easy ways they could do this:

1. Sell worse weed. This means the potency or the percent of THC in the weed will drop. Currently, "good" weed that you can find normally, has a THC percent of 13-20%. I could see the THC percent in legalized weed drop 5 percent to 7-14% for good weed.
This is still not as bad as the weed in the 60s, which was, according to research, 4-10%.

Why would this happen you ask?

two reasons. One is that, if the weed is less potent, then you'll have to buy more in order to have the same affect. Buying more weed means more money for the companies.
The second reason is that the amount of THC in a growing weed plant increases as the plant ripens. One of the biggest complexities of growing weed (and this, i've done quite a bit of research on) is exactly whent to harvest the weed. If you harvest late, the amount of weed you will get goes down. And, if you harvest to early, the THC percent won't be as high. Therefore, its easily stipulated that large(or even small!) companies will harvest the weed way too early in order for a quicker profit.

2.mix in other substances along with the weed when it is retailed.

whats this you ask?

well you only have to look at the difference between tobacco and ciggarettes to realize that, when large coporations get their hands on an addictive product like tobacco(which isn't to say weed is even close to as addictive as tobacco) they can f*ck it up. Ciggaretes are MUCH more lethal than tobacco, and I would bet that a large corporation that sold marijuana would do something similar, if not identical, to this.
why? so they can make more money while selling less product.

SOOooo.
you may be saying, ignorantly, "oh man, legalized pot, oh boy!" but, as soon as you take your heads out of your wonderfully idealistic asses, and look at the situation realistically, you might realize that legalizing weed would be one of the worst things to happen to marijuana.

Grow your own?

A much more viable option than the alcohol / tobacco alternatives. You don't need to grow much weed to support the occasional toke.

Growing your own takes a LOT of comitment, not to mention, a LOT of expensive supplies if your going to grow more than, 4 plants at a time.

And then, you'll realize that marijuana plants are about the weakest plants on the face of the planet. If anything any sickness gets to them, they'll just curl up and die. and just about everything gets marijuana plants sick.

Trust me, as an avid fan of home-grown pot, its NOT an easy task. Most people wouldn't want to put 60-90 days of hard work just to smoke pot, especially when every morning you could come down and find that your plants decided to shit on you and die.

Yup.. I remember as a youngin (before I knew what this evil marijuana was) when dad would get particularly angry when myself or my brother would kick the football into the 'tomato plant that didn't have tomatoes yet' - even more so than the actual tomato plants that had tomatoes! At first I assumed it was because the plant was more vulnerable when there wasn't any tomatoes growing yet. Though I did wonder why this particular tomato plant had grown to well over 6 feet and no tomatoes had sprouted yet.

When I grew older, it all made more sense

Try making pot food, its a perfect way to get around your excuse, and in actuality, pot food gets you signifigantly higher than smoking it.

Don't you people realise that smoking drugs is exactly wht the system wants you to do? Nothing better than citizens lobotomized and in a permanent state of ethylic or drug induced coma, reduced to nothing but their cerval marrow, stupidly believeing they have their freedoms and have their rebeliousness, before ending up as another rubber stamping civil servant by the age of 24...

You can say the same (or at least something similar) of religion and voting. I'll admit that smoking weed just to be a rebel is stupid (it should be personally enjoyable), but that isn't why most people do it. I, personally, don't do drugs of any form.

You can tell that this is true by the way that they have made it so illegal. Just like gang-raping babies with the aid of ravenous dogs... that's just what the system wants you to be doing with your sunday afternoons, that's why they've outlawed the practice and spent millions of pounds hunting down people who do otherwise.

I think its in Canada where its legal to buy and sell but only from local dealers, you're not allowed to distribute as a business there. No doubt some do, but they probably don't get much from it.

That system works better since you can't really tax it and the gov't stays out of the transaction.
