5. As you've got 37 territories, it might be worth making Borgo Maggiore start neutral (the terr, not the region!). If anywhere is going to be neutral, I think that's the best place, and it would stop anybody starting with a +5 bonus for holding the region, or all the Torri.

Keep up the good work Ruben ;-)

Agreed on 4, possibly on 5.

ZeakCytho wrote:I like the new mountains style, but they seem too bright on the light-facing side. The bridge still looks like a staircase ;)

Also in agreement with both points.

I have softened the bottom edges of the Torri in this new version. Didn't you notice the difference?

I don't think making Borgo Maggiore start as a neutral makes any sense at all. It is already the most difficult region to hold and it would make it useless if it also had a neutral, thus making it even more difficult to conquer.

I will try to do something about the brightness of the mountains but the bridge stays. I prefer it to the earlier version and I think it's better than the "straw" designs used in other maps. However if people want to think of the bridge as a staircase in their head, they are free to do so!

Version 1.23b - Are the mountains better now?

The left side still seems a bit bright to me.

The softer bottem edge of the Torri looks heaps better -I'll stop badgering about it now ;-)

I preferred the bridge/steps in the previous version...
MrBenn wrote:2. Is there any way you can make Chiesanuova look 'higher' than Fiorentino? This would help the marble stairs look less out of place.

This is the sort of thing I had in mind:

I'm not convinced by the mountains.... Would a 'dropped' shadow work slghtly better than a 'shade' shadow (if that makes sense)? I thkn mountains must be one of the hardest things to get looking right #-o

Hmm I don't like the way Chiesanuova looks in your pic. I honestly don't see what the problem is with the bridge. Most of the quenched maps have "straw" bridges which are just two lines and some colour inside them. I think this bridge looks better. Anyway I don't want to focus on these petty things at this stage. I like the bridge as it is.

I tried adding a shadow to the mountains but they looked totally out of place. I can try making them a bit darker though if the last update was not dark enough. Indeed mountains are always a problem, at least for me! :)

Er isn't FF the exact time to concentrate on petty things?

I am quoting again the relevant paragraph from my previous post because you selected to quote only part of it, thus altering what I meant to say.

Besides I have already changed the bridge in the last update on the previous page so it's not like I haven't been making changes to the map since it's been in FF, it's just that I like the bridge as it is and I don't see anything wrong with it.

Ruben, I agree that Chiesanuova looks bad in my example - I was just suggesting adding a thicker edge to the river there to give the illusion of height - thus making the stepped bridge (which I preferred) fit better.

I wasn't being awkward - just trying to help ;-)

I know you weren't being awkward mate. ;) Btw you made me laugh a lot in this thread a few days ago. I was pulling tacktix's leg saying that the bridge was in fact a marble staircase and you actually believed me. :)

I'll try to have a look at this map during the weekend and refine it to add the finishing touches.

Yeti / Zimmah can one of you finish the XML for me please?

stray white pixels on the edge from San Mustiola to Gaviano.

Mountains fade into the background too much. Maybe a dark outline to define them?

Also, some of the border lines are blending with the terit colors a bit. Do you see that?
EX. from Ca'Rigo to Crociale

I guess they did not fade in the background before when they were lighter but then other people complained about them being too bright. So it's either these or the ones on the previous page which already looked fine to me.

Ah i see the other mountains. No they were right they are not right either. I think those look are too defined. I think if you add definition only to the tops of the mountain they will look more like mountains instead of abstract triangles.

I've been to San Marino a couple years ago, and I was stunned by the geography if it, with that awsome Monte Titano. In my opinion, a 3D type map, like the one below, would have been more fitting, and great to play on, but I realize I am too late to suggest a redraw.

As for a more subtle addition, how about adding the cable train (teleferico) as a passage through the mountain barrier, between Citta and Borgo Maggiore?

Maybe to late to comment on the yellow texture. But the yellow dont like the other texture its looks more "clear" the ohter seem to be of a diffrent texture any reason for that?

Zimmah - feel free - The XML is written - it's just Centering...

http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/1/19/ ... marino.xml

I was awaiting the latest image from Ruben so that it could be finished - (Centering really should be the mapmakers duty though I reckon!)

indeed, centering is the worst part about writing XML, but someone has to do the dirty job.

Sorry Yeti...I understand that centring is the most tedious part of the XML but I will never have time for centring (I barely have any time for map making left nowadays! :() so anyone who takes the XML part of my maps will have to do that as well for me. :D

Zimmah I have the latest image ready. Since it's okay for Yeti and you have time I will give you a link and you can finish the centring for me. I'll be in touch.

Thanks to both of you guys.
