It's true, but unrelated. Actually, I can sort of see your angle, but it's two very different phenomena, Israel are just as happy to kill Palestinians as "Christians" supposedly "manipulating" them. "Manipulating" is the wrong word really, since Israel and the US seem from what I gather to have a rather symbiotic relationship.

That said, the Arab-Israeli conflict is not really a field of expertise for me.

Just as christianity has taken much of what they celebrate from earlier religions, my family has taken from christianity, while moving forward with other parts of our beliefs and practices.

I like to see ghosts and ghouls on Halloween, and I like to see Santa, Rudolf, and the baby Jesus at Xmas. And chocolate eggs at easter too.

I agree with you, brooksie. Politics is for everyone, not just politicians (despite what spineless atheletes spit out when asked why they are still going ahead with a Zimbabwean Cricket tour..) and I wish I was interested in politics when I was 16 (unfortunatly, it didn't interest me at the time) - My point earlier is that Nappy's politics seem quite dangerous, considering how young he is, and how agressive he seems to be. That's what I have a problem with.

As for French colonialism, let's not forget we brought them sewage, roads, ports and schools. Positive things... yes, there were mistakes made, but it is simply natural for a dominant culture to assume the position of adminstrator until it has civilized the lesser people. We did not force them to accept any beliefs, we converted them through the use of missionaries, not bayonets.

We cannot expect the rules and laws that apply to civilized society to be applied all at once to savages. Yes, there are moral laws, which were at times violated, but overall, Colonialism as a doctrine is justified, as was it's application during the Empire, even if occasional abuses occurred.

What is unacceptable is the destruction of our culture by mindless barbarians, and prostration before their every demand by our balless leaders.

On a side note, there is actually no such thing as 'developing' countries. Undeveloped countries are not on a path towards development, they are infact the result of developed '1st world' countries. Undevelopment is a direct result of the first worlds constant pillaging from the third world. Civilisation and cities are by definition unsustainable. (no city in the world can produce enough food and water to feed all of its people) so they need to take (or import, as it's called) food and resources from poorer countries.

Also donations and aid relief will never help fix the problems in third world countries, it only serves to perpetuate the cycle of debt and poverty because it never deals with the problem of why these countries are in poverty in the first place - quite a few years ago i used to donate to one of those charities quite regularly, thinking it was doing good (or atleast serving to ease some of my white-male-privillege-guilt that i have) but realised a while ago that it doesn't do jack shit so i stopped it. In most cases, third world countries do have enough resources and food to feed and look after their population - but the first world continual quest for growth and expansion (the very essence of capitalism) robs them of any chance to even try to eek out a humble existence.

Perfect example in history that is well known is the Irish potato famine. Despite the massive drop in potato crops during those years, there was still enough to feed the Irish population, but the English still persisted on taking their 'quota' - and that's what sent the Irish into starvation.
