It is annoying :p annoyingly real for poorly setup computers in computer labs!

but okay, it's hardly something I'll insist on. Let's see what others think.
Yes, 1 for every 3 territories... I think that's fairly fair... I don't really think any reduced multiplier for characters... although it's an option to think about... How would it play? give more advantage to whoever went first in getting their words or spoiling others... unless it's reduced perhaps to try and stop that? nah. I don't think it needs to change...

Also, forum question... Shouldn't changing the details in my vote cause the votes to reset? or is it because it's an old poll... Could it please be taken down when someone gets a minute...

i have received the pm and have come to comment. unfortunately my post will probably not suit your taste but you asked for it

anyway, first of all i repeat my problem from the earlier post, the usage of real photos and the copyright issue.
i see you have removed the windows logo but you stil have the windows sidebar the icon for nero burning rom, etc. that's copyright infringement.
also if i'm not mistaking the usage of a real keyboard photo is also copyright infringement.
plus the photo looks bad. look at the top of the keyboard, it's al smudgy and blurry, probably from when you cut it from a bigger image.
that being said i also think the map is really cramped because of the usage of a photo and the big legend.
what i'd do is draw a keyboard and add a one line legend like this:
any key can attack any other key. form a word and you get + for each letter in the word. for a list of words visit any english dictionary.
of course it would be a HUGE xml to code in absolutely all the words in the english dictionary.

We'll put Yeti_C on it, he'll get it set for us in a matter of days. Bummer that BOB would never load the map.
And I echo DiM's concerns. The map's original in concept, but it just doesn't look right. Most of us wouldn't mind if you had a 2D-looking keyboard, because at least that'd not look smudgy.

In fact, the concept is not original. The idea was tried before, but was abandoned:
A good number of members thought it has no appeal (myself included).
Many bonus have the same territories, like letter "a" in many words, so some bonuses are useless.
To create a strategy, you need to figure what bonuses the opponents have, and checking the whole list of words would be a pain. And even worse, you would need to pay attention to what letter appears more in enemies bonuses to do it with maximum damage. It seems a real pain.
In fact, I also think this idea sucks, besides the effort put into it.

Hmm, It's a moments work to remove the whole task bar entirely. It was only there for the look. It may as well go. It'll even make the map a little shorter

or I could space the text out a tiny bit more.
Now every key is its own layer... I haven't done anything with the background shell of the keyboard, but if I make a layer out of it, and then restroke it, and all the keys, I'm going to get the effect you're looking for? I'd be stupid not to use the -entire- layout and setup, and try and create the exact same image, except it'll look more created, and less real.
This is the only map of its kind on CC. It's the only technology map using things that would be right in front of everyone right now. Give it a bit of leeway. Do the graphics look real? Sure they look a bit generated... we're not trying to deny reality here. Yes this is a photo of a keyboard that's been shopped up real nice. I am a retro gamer, and I've always been one who prefers gameplay over graphics. I don't need a game to blow my mind away... just be reasonably usable.. and I've been starting at these images pretty steadily for several months and I'm not crazy yet...
Surely using a photo that is publically posted on the internet, is not watermarked or otherwise owned, and especially since all the work on that image has been done in australia. Technically when I brought the image onto my computer, I broke it's US copyright... but we don't recognise that here in Aus

So it's my image. I've done all the work on it, someone else just did point - click - upload... sheesh.
Tacktix. - a 2D keyboard? why would you suggest a reduction in the quality of graphics? I don't see how that would alter the playability of the map, or be a positive change. There are very few smudges on this image

some stamping, sure, and that can be cleaned up with reasonable photo editing. But does it have to be perfect? it's better resolution than reality anyway

Marvaddin - I appreciate the notice of effort

. I think it will have nice appeal. As long as the gameplay is reasonably sound, and I think we've done a fair bit to ensure that it will be, it is a map that some people will like, and others will not. It's a specialist one, but it offers an interesting and different angle on gameplay that may appeal to some. So while I appreciate you think it sucks... give it a chance for those of us who want to play it.

i would see that as a challenge, and some new game features.
off course, it needs to be a little bit worked out more, off course a list of words like he has now (but don't make some letters way more powerful then others)
and the map itselfs doesn't look very good in my opinion, but i belief it will get better, just keep trying.

regardless of how much work you do that image is still copyrighted. that keyboard is real and has a producer and that producer has the copyrights. if i go on their website and download a copyrighted image and then put it on photobucket for others to use it, that doesn't make it free. the producer still owns it.
the fact that you downloaded the image on your pc is not a problem and i doubt it breaks any laws as long as you don't use it for commercial purposes. but CC is a business and lack gets money from using these images so you wouldn't want lack to go to jail, would you?

Yet if I were to take that image, cut all the pieces out of it, recreate new, almost exact pieces, and put them together myself using that as a framework, then that would be perfectly acceptable? All of the individual keys are layers... I can do that without -too- much effort if it's what is required... Tho I'll need to learn how to paint in photoshop. I've never been a painter

and all I'm getting when I try to create things are these solid colour shapes.. sure they have embossing, but nothing with texture, so I need to looks at that too. Anyway. *sigh* back towards the drawing board.. Maybe some more positives will come while I sleep.
And also, I've cut out the numpad, arrow keys and home/end keys... It's a different keyboard. No relation.

If your going to do a map of the keyboard then you have to have ALL the keys, First off you might want to try making it clearer, its Gamplay first then Graphics.

Well I suppose the next generation option that is calling to me, based simply on the fact that despite numerous tries, i have been unable to bevel an edge that looks like a proper keyboard key, so I'm going to change the design from what it currently is, into a laptop, allowing the flatter keys to look good, and still have a monitor to put gameplay rules on.
Should I stick with the CC-page design for what goes on the screen?
I'll start work on this when I get some time...

Hi Tieryn,
I'm responding to your PM. I have been checking in, but I wasn't sure of the current state. I feel a little more informed now, so I've decided to chip in some comments.
Graphics:
I believe switching to a laptop would pay off tenfold.
I echo DiM's concerns that the photo is copyrighted and "pixely". (Yes, I'm making up words as I go.) Thus, I would pose a question for the technology inclined. Could a real quality photo be taken of a laptop with a digital camera and then used? We should hear comments of whether this would fly legally and visually.
Gameplay:
The vowels are going to have lots of power in this game. Also, holding bonuses may be harder than amassing territories. I feel that the words can be discussed and hammered out as the map progresses.
More importantly, having the 3 keys (with bombs) be bombardments and reset to neutrals makes them extremely undesirable. I would like to see them as one or the other. I can see that taking the key would allow you to bombard many territories, but you would need armies in the area to then conquer.
Overall:
You get an A++ for effort. The improvements in the map are substantial. Keep up the good work.
Best,
Laci
