There are currently three ways to differentiate the two.
City circles are red, province circles are grey.
City names are red, province circles are grey
City names are lowercase, province names are uppercase
I think that should be enough.

Right, well I wont change them then... and we shall see what happens. The good thing the neutrals will be easier and less hassel to tweak, once the map is live.

In the xml I haven't been making provinces upper case because Italy proved players found all caps in the drop downs to be annoying and we had to fix it with an update to the xml.
As a result for Karbala I had to make Karbala and Karbala City since the province and the city had the same name. If you wanted I could add City to the end of all the cities to help players even more.
For the loyality boxes I've just been naming them (ignore spelling, I don't have the map to check with as I type this, they are right in the xml) Mahdi "name", al-Qaeda "name", U.S. "name", and Baathist "name".
For Karbala City the names are U.S. Karbala, al-Qaeda Karbala, and so on without the City on the end.
Should I add or take out City anywhere in all of that?

would it be totally annoying to have be "the city of Karbala", "the city of Rutbah" and perhaps, "the province of Muthanna" etc.. that might get really long, but would sound since, and automatiical seperate province from cities int he list.
as for the aloyalty boxes... what about "al-Quaeda in Rutba" or "Rutba's al-queda presence"" "Basrah's US presence" "Ramadi's loyalty to Mahdi army" etc this might be totally ridiculous but it would make the game log look a news ticker.

I like those without putting the in front of them.
City of "Name" Province of "Name" (if province is the word we are using)
Now that dashes don't screw up BOB could we do Baghdad - "Name" for those?
As for the loyalty boxes I'm not sure about all that text. I could do another simple Mahdi - "Name" for those like Baghdad. Or the reverse "name" - Mahdi.

XML query...
For the Mahdi army - is it....
a) +7 for every 4 cities held? (i.e. max 21 for all 12)
b) +7 for over 4 cities held? (i.e. max 7 for 4+) <- 3 people could hold this bonus
If it's B - I think I have a fair solution... not 100% sure will confirm tomorrow...
Al-Queda is harder!

what about <loyalty> of <city>. Like Bathists of Ramadi
bahdad could be, "<name> district of bahdad" or is that too long

You know, I'll need to ask Andy what is too long because I'm not sure. I actually don't think it matters as long as it isn't average sentence length, the drop downs should stretch as far as they need to.

PS - ignore earlier question it cannot be done... however...
I have devised an elegant solution to all of our XML problems...
My previous suggestion for optional components of continents (for Supermax) wouldn't've worked on this...
But my new suggestion will work for boththis and Supermax...
Check it out in the XML thread.

Depends on the time scales that Lack could get this in...
If it was soon - then I say go for the original...
But - how long's a piece of string?!

BTW - you still have "Loyalites" instead of "Loyalties"
Or are you saying that the people are "loyalite" - I think "Acolytes" would be a better word if that's your intention.

i personally dont think you should make a map about an ongoing war because being part of a military family i know it would offend me and should offend any other person on this site that has a loved one currently serving over seas or has a loved one that has given his life for the war. (i am a part of both groups i have immediate family currently serving in iraq and i had two very close friends killed when the war first started)

One of my friends was on Flight 93 and another of my friends was wounded and lost his best friend while stationed there.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_P._Felt is the friend who died. I'm not disclosing the name of my friend who is stationed.
I do not find this map offensive. It's a country, this is a representation of it, and the United States has the highest bonus count in the end.

Probably to ensure that people can understand it...
Or do you mean the bits on the right - that isn't legend - that's the loyalty territories for the map.

Over 62 million people died in WW2... yet we have maps for that...

I hear what your saying... but this map is still only in the foundry proper, it needs to languish in the FF for a while before it goes live... so it may be weeks/months out. In this time the xml may be updated or not. Iam not so sure we need to rush a solution in for the map to just sit around the Final Forge forever.
Of course if the xml update is several monthes out, thats a different story... but only the might lack knows...

I encourage the adjacent rule because I think the gameplay would be better that way, but we can wait again if you want.

I think it would be unduly hard to obtain the bonuses, especially in the beginning. You could hold 9 Mahdi loyalty but receive no bonus because they are not adjacent. It will be hard enough to get 4 cities with 4-5 other players in the mix, but too if they have to be adjacent, me thinks.

It's probably the loyalty boxes that your looking at... I had truble with it when I first saw the map too but I understand it now... It's not achualy part of the legend... it's part of the map and a main part of the bones sistem...
