If you call within the next five minutes, you'll give you TWO live CC clocks!

We're practically GIVING them away!

Whenever I think of playing CC, instead ill now call up and buy a Snuggie. At least that gives me a true "warm and fuzzy feeling".

Plus the threat of getting laid remains null.

Hey, with the new two-person Snuggies, you could trap someone in the other half. Afterwards, when you're disposing the body, you also have a means of conceiling the body as you toss it in the river.

But yeah, still pretty bummed, especially since Andy called me a dog-kicker. I would never... :(

Actually, I borrowed an Ipad for a few months in the spring, and then when it was time to return it, instead of buying an Ipad I bought a "real" laptop. Now I'm somewhat regretting it.

The Ipad used to be able to get through an entire run on one charge, the laptop lasts barely an hour and a half. I can't charge it if I shut the truck off, because it draws more power than the resting voltage of the truck, so I have to remember to charge it while I'm driving or it won't be available when I stop.

The Ipad had a built-in wireless modem and a built-in billing process; for the laptop I had to buy an external wireless modem and set up a seperate account with my cellular provider. And because it plugs in to a USB port, I can't keep it plugged in or it would bang around and break off on bumps; I have to remove it and put it in its separate travelling case.

The Ipad booted in seconds, so I could log in during odd delays while fueling or whatnot; the laptop takes almost a minute to boot, and then another minute or so to plug in the external modem, verify a signal, and log on to the network, meaning that I only use it when I'm stopped for long periods. This might not seem so onerous, but on longer runs this has led to me missing turns. Not a huge life-transforming problem, but it's an annoyance.

The Ipad touch-screen was a lot easier to use than my tiny little finger pad.

The Ipad had a built-in GPS; on the laptop I have to manually move the map around and zoom in to my location.

All in all, if I had to do it all over again I would have bought an Ipad.

Why would you buy a laptop sans built in wifi receiver?

That's like buying a television without a screen.

Wow. All of this excitement for nothing. Look at the first 125 suckers who signed up. If someone wants to buy me in, cool beans, but no way in hell am I wasting my time to get 500 credits for useless shit to play in a tournament.

Why couldn't there have been a REAL UPDATE?

Well, technically, once the auto-joining to tournament games get's rolled out to all tournaments it will be a real update. Not a terribly exciting one, certainly useful to tournament organizers and players, never noticed by everyone else, bound to cause a couple headaches when human error causes the wrong players to be automatically joined to a game or something.

OOH yeah, pay to play...the big one is a flop for me..convert US$ to the yuan..way to expensive for me... Livin in China way to expensive...1 year premium is enough thankyou.

jeez there is a sucker born every moment.

Lack obviously needs more money, currently he pays no-one to administer the site..mods work for free, map makers and endless others contribute so much.

I'm totally amazed, you can be freemium to join this..what about if your premium ??

Give something back, not continually taking more from the contributions of so many, sorry to my clan but when my premium runs out that's it folks.

Sad day for CC,

Waiting for the next update..lol

I would like a live clock, thanks..

So...

1296 participants, 5 dollars each = 6480 dollars.

5 people get a 50 dollar gift certificate, that's 250 dollars.

The apple toy apparently costs around 500 dollars, so that's 750 dollars spent in prizes.

6480 dollars in entry fees.
750 dollars in prizes.

Now I get why Owen was banned for calling CC cheap. Must have hit a nerve.

You could have purchased a laptop with built in WiFi. Just saying...

Not every truck stop has free wi-fi. Many of them expect you to pay for it, and even when you do the reliability is unpredictable. Also, out in the more remote areas where I'm often loading, there is no wi-fi at all.

But I understand what you mean. For people with office jobs or whatever that would be the perfect solution.

There's just so much wrong with apple products I don't even know where to start.

Well, I do actually. First, they're overpriced toys.

Second, you don't get to do what you want with the computer you've purchased. You can only download and use apple-approved software products. There's jailbreaking but then I hear apple has started uploading malware to jailbroken ipads & iphones to stop them from working.

I mean, when I buy a computer, or a phone, I want to be able to do what I goddamn please with it, not have big brother watching over my shoulder that I don't install software they don't like. But maybe that's just me.

Oh, you're absolutely right. I wasn't trying to make a good-evil point at all. Just that natty said they are completely worthless, and I had to point out that for my limited use (which basically boils down to only three things -- playing Conquer Club, getting weather reports, and looking up addresses) the Ipad was better. Obviously not all CC players are truck drivers, and I can imagine 1000 businesses where one might want the power of a real laptop.

natty_dread wrote:Why thank you, mr. Apple shill.

Why do you always have to cast everything in the most negative tone possible? Hey, if I was a techie, I might build myself a wireless internet interface from scrap parts I found in garbage cans, run it with Linux and 100% free open-source software, and steal my bandwidth from passing ambulances. But I'm not a techie, just an old man trying to find his way in the modern world, so I go with the simplest solution that works.

obviously a tablet suits your needs better than a laptop, but still, why an ipad?
i mean, for the same price as an ipad 2 you could get a samsung galaxy tab that's far superior in every aspect. :-s

Actually I agree with your second point, although not completely with your first.

But I don't have the time to keep up with the almost constant changes. The last computer I owned that I (almost) understood was my beloved Compaq 286 with DOS 2.5. Back then I actually took the time to learn QBasic and even a bit of Fortran and wrote a few of my own programs. Since then, they just change so fast that I can't keep up, and so now I just go with the flow and use the idiot-proof point-and-click shit that downloads itself. And yes, I know I'm feeding the corporate oligarchy, but life is too short to spend it banging my head against the wall.

Quite possibly. For now, I've invested almost $400 in this laptop, so I'm hoping to get a couple years' use out of it.

By the time I'm ready to spend more money, for all we know the Ipad and the Galaxy might both be obsolete. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to get a nice R2D2 by then...:-)
