Standings up to date as of 9/25 3:42 P.M. North American Eastern Standard Time (19:42 UTC)

Divisional play is now officially finished (Montreal and Portugal were the last two divisions to finish up after some impressive and close performances; both divisions required playoff games to determine players advancing).

Also, all conferences are now officially underway. With already 3 League finals completed, we are indeed approaching the ultimate World Cup Final.

To wrap up divisional play, I though it would be interesting to look at some of the details of play,

Just wanted to shout out to any of y'all looking for some more tournament fun,

The annual PIG Roast that I host is desperately in need of competitors! The tourney is organized in a "king-of-the-grill" type fashion, in which a player (known as the Roaster) chooses the map and settings and the 3 "piggies" in the group must battle him in 1v1 games.

The piggies strive to escape the torturous, torrid heat of the grill (avoiding elimination), while the Roaster must be sure to defeat every opponent in the round to avoid being thrown into the inferno himself!

It's the perfect way to get ready for the approaching holiday season in which many families enjoy a luscious, moutherwateringly-savory-good roasted pig for dinner.

Hungry? :-s
Check it out if you are interested! If you want to play, simply write "in please" on the tournament page. It would be absolutely sublime if you join, as there's only 10 days left for signups and still over half of the spots available! :|

viewtopic.php?f=90&t=154646

Sorry for any of you who actually thought there was an update; gotta advertise my tourneys somehow :-$ :?

414 fierce match-ups across 32 divisions and 5 leagues have distinguished the top 6.25% of our tournament players, the privileged and exclusive club of 8 players who will take part in the World Cup Final! The competition has become more international than ever: not only have our finalists advanced from an array of divisions around the world (from Greenland to Egypt to Japan), but they also reside in countries all across the globe.

To say that we have an elite field of warriors taking part in our Final would be an understatement. These 8 competitors have all earned a spot throughout the strenuous qualifiers. Featured in the Final are,

  • [player]abygorb[/player], a Captain who, interestingly, is the only finalist whose current nation of residence corresponds with the division he qualified from: Mexico. Will the forces of nationalism and pride lead him to victory?
  • The second North American qualifier is [player]Splatsmash[/player], who began fighting on the frigid Greenland map. After only 500 games, he's already a major and is seeking his second tournament title.
  • Our South American League qualifer is Colonel [player]SirSebstar[/player], earning a spot from the Central America division. He boasts the highest number of tournament victories and most number of medals: 18 tournaments won and a total of 70 medals!
  • The first of our three finalists emerging from the largest league, Europe, is [player]xman5151[/player], who has the second most number of tournament victories (6). He's also joined the most number of my tournaments (props for that :) )
  • [player]Dukasaur[/player], one of the leading members of the Entertainment team for the CC Newsletter, has earned a spot from the Italy division. If his risk-taking is as skillful as his writing (as it surely may be) then he's a strong candidate for the title!
  • Major [player]Flow520[/player] (after only 179 games! =D> ) has qualified from the Luxembourg division, and has taken risk-taking to the next level; in 2010 he took part in the real-life risk-taking 2010 Annual Risk Classic in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, as an Official Conquer Club Flag-bearer.
  • The finalist most familiar with the workings of the World Cup of Risk and the Final is [player]co-co[/player]. Nearly one year ago,[player]co-co[/player] triumphed in the 2010 World Cup of Risk, qualifying from the SAME division as last year (Egypt: Lower). Can he manage to pull off a repeat victory in a tougher field of opponents!?
  • Finally, qualifying from the Japan division of the Asian League, is Colonel [player]Stickse[/player], who has the highest score of all 8 finalists (2616) as well as the highest winning percentage of all 8 finalists (57%!). Yet he has only played 126 games and has to yet to win a tournament! Is he the top dog in the race for the tournament victory?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wish our 8 distinguished finalists good strategy and luck throughout the final. Here's the link to the game if you'd like to follow along!

After 4 grueling months of play, [player]abygorb[/player] has triumphed in the World Cup Final and has won the 2011 World Cup of Risk!

[player]abygorb[/player] overwhelmed opposition in the Mexico division, performing almost flawlessly (5 wins, 1 loss) before emerging victorious in the North American Finals and, ultimately, the World Cup Final!

Also, congratulations to the 8 finalists; it's not easy to be in the top class, the 6.25%, that worked hard to reach the final test.

=D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

I'd like to extend a warm thank you to all 128 players and the numerous additional players who filled in as reserves. After all, no players=no tournament!

Your commitment to the games and superior sportsmanship are greatly appreciated!
