Since I'm not literate enough to make a link here is what I was warned for. I guess if I had said "Suck it up cupcake" it would have been ok. Is not ASSCLOWN & CUPCAKE the same in intent?
Many words have the same intent, but that does not make them equally inappropriate almost ever. More importantly, individual words mean nothing without context, so posting them individually, is really meaningless as information in a thread like this mostly. Its entertaining of course, and reminds me of the late George Carlin's brilliant piece on the censored words in television programming.
As a side not about words, One of my more memorable moments, was in college, when discussing the use of words, and their use, in a "writing for business" class. The discussion was more or less along the same lines as this one, and the different uses and impacts of words. It was very fun to hear the professor, discuss the singularly usefulness of the word "f***" and how there really is no word that really means the same, or has the same impact. It identifies the underlying usefulness of language itself, and the meaning of message, and how people react to them and understand them.
In the end, the mods are not here, because the answer to the question was answered before it was asked for any reasonable person.
It is against the forum rules to openly flame another player in the forum. That is why people get banned, not necessarily because of any one individual word.
I feel like a complete zilldoit after typing out this much. Though, in this case, that could be an insult to the actual zilldoits... it really isnt their fault they are how they are. I will show them more respect in the future.
The origins of words is actually interesting too. While at this point, we learn them so early in our development, that we never really have to question why they mean what they mean, but many of them started off as an emotional allocation to a stimuli of some kind. Through the ages, they got written down and simply became accepted. I think perhaps the reason why profanity is such a fun avenue to discuss, is really because it is one area of language that is constantly evolving. New words actually get used in this area, all with a different message, and certainly with a different emotional response. The internet creates some new words and lingo obviously too, but I for one hardly find it as interesting.
Long story short, using assclown and cupcake, or even butterfly or the word flower, can all be used with the same intent, but again, that does not mean that one, is not worse than the other. Alone they are actually fairly benign, but really, I dont think there is truly anyone here, that can actually read this forum, that really believes any two words are equal, and more importantly, that they come to represent completely different things depending upon which other buddies that they bring to their little party of a phrase, or sentence...or even sometimes a paragraph...or two.
If you still arent convinced, I could probably write a book about flowers. Perhaps there is not a word that represents beauty, or the origins of life better. The plant on a basic level is used as a gift at some of the more emotional times in peoples lives, and each one carries its own meaning. It is perhaps one of the least threatening words in the english language. However, I am almost positive, I could use it in a sentence without other profanity, and get warned for it at the very least. This wont ever mean that the word flower cant be used in the forum...but only how it is used will be important.
Even better, I believe I could make up a word, and manage to break the forum rules. Im almost positive I could string some letters together that arent really a word, and still be guilty of breaking the guidelines:
Zilldoit. It may exist, but I could easily go too far using this word to justify a ban. And as far as I know, it doesnt exist...though im not completely sure I trust that good search engine.
After thinking about this a little more, I actually think it might be easier to find words that can be used no matter what, than find ones that cant be used to break the guidelines. It certainly is not as challenging to find seemingly innocent words, and conjure a way to make them bannable when used inappropriately.
I feel like a complete zilldoit after typing this much. Though I suppose this isnt fair to zilldoits. It isnt their fault they are how they are. I will try to treat them with more respect in the future.
