BROWNS IN UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY: NEAR THE TOP OF THE STANDINGS
by Waiting4Oct
April 28th,1949 DETROIT, MI -- The Browns returned to their winning ways sweeping a two game set from the hosting Detroit Tigers in Tiger Stadium today. Al Zarilla hit two homeruns yesterday and a strong start today from Ned Garver (2-0) sent the Brownies to their best start (8-2) since the war addled year of 1944.
The St. Louisians of the Junior Circuit lost a quick one game set in Cleveland earlier this week on their way to Detroit after having won three out of four in Chicago and sweeping their home opening series against the Tribe.
note: Just having a little fun. If anyone finds this offensive in any sort of way, I won't do it again.

We may let our manager keep his job a little longer after a 3 game sweep of the vaunted Chicago White Sox. Detroit's bats were hot early (good drops) and fielding was excellent (great defensive dice).
Enjoying this tournament a lot.

i have assumed to this point that you will be keeping track of all the games and their winners otherwise you would quickly become inundated with messages.
if i'm wrong let me know.
as it turns out, i had to cancel my outing for next week - i got jury duty and was quickly put on a jury which will last 3 weeks.
by the way i just won game # 4952154.

Road teams have been winning a lot of games so far. Everyone picked their favorite complex war map and so far home teams are only a game above break even.

Yes, I'm keeping track of the games on my spreadsheets. Early on I will only update the standings once, maybe twice per week. When we get into August and pennant races begin to heat up I will update them more frequently.
Sorry to hear about jury duty, that's the pits.

Re: MLB Golden Age--- Week 2 AL Invites Sent, NL Coming 2Nite
Last time I got Jury Duty I was on a murder trial...
Anyhow, gotta love the vagaries of choosing one of the two St. Louis teams. All home games this week. I thought those massive homestands in St. Louis and Detroit went the way of the do-do by 1949 because more teams were flying.

GARVER IMPROVES TO 4-0, BROWNS STILL IN FIRST DIVISION
by Waiting4Oct
May 10th,1949 St. Louis, MO -- A massively long early season homestand is just what the doctor ordered for the Browns, who remain percentage points behind the American League leading Philadelphia Athletics after finishing off a double header sweep of the Red Sox. At the time of this writing, the Yankees Game, which was delayed by rain from May 3rd (Game 4985098)is in the top of the 8th inning with the Brownies holding a comfortable 6-2 lead. The young lefty, Cliff Fannin is in line for his third win of the season which would improve his record to 3-1.
At the time of publication, today's Game 4994321 has entered the 11th inning with no end in site. Ted Williams gave the Red Sox the lead driving in Vern Stephens with a 2 out double in the 10th, but Jerry Priddy lead off the bottom half of the inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly.
This week, the Browns finish off their homestand with two against the first place Athletics, and a four game weekend series against the Detriot Tigers before heading on the road for two in Philadephia and two in our nation's Capital.

Well done. Does your intrepid reporter want to make some extra money covering Pirates games?

Well if there were say a quick exhibition series between the Pirates and Browns, I'm sure the local papers would have to send the beat reporter.

Not quite D-Day! but an awesome photo nonetheless...

Re: MLB Golden Age-- Standings Updated 6/11
i hope there is no more freestyle games
Re: MLB Golden Age-- Week 4 Invites Sent, Standings Updated 6/14
New invites are sent and the standings have been updated. At some point the AL H2H standings got messed up, but all total team W/L records should be correct. At any rate I will conduct a thorough audit of the standings later this week to correct any errors.

Ok... sorry if I'm stepping on the tournament directors toes here, but seriously dude, did you read the rules? Everytime you play away against the New York Giants (11 times in total) it's going to be freestyle. Everytime you're playing someone else and the game has (II) after it, it's going to be freestyle. That means that at most you're going to have about 20 freestyle games in 154.leolou2 wrote:if these games are going to be freestyle i want out

Then join the game last and attack first.
The Cardinals have about 20 more freestyle games left. I can't force you to stay against your will, but I won't think very highly of it if you ultimately decide to leave considering it was clear in the first post that freestyle games would be a part of the tourney and fairly common in the NL since you joined last and it was already posted that games in New York and Chicago would also be freestyle. Please also keep in mind you're not the only one with work and other commitments, it would not look good on your behalf to bail on this tournament for the reason you gave.

Re: MLB Golden Age-- Week 5 Invites Sent, Standings Updated 6/22
I have conducted an audit of the standings and have corrected all errors, my apologies to the Indians and Phillies in particular as my count was quite a few short in their win columns. I have also altered the way in which I tabulate games in the standings with the hopes that fewer errors occur in the future.

Re: MLB Golden Age-- Standings Updated 6/26
Just a point of curiosity that I couldn't figure out. Are we playing the schedule as it was scheduled or as it turned out. What I mean is, let's say a game was scheduled for a Wednesday Afternoon, but got rained out and was played as a DH on a Thursday, are we playing the single game on Wednesday or the twinbill on Thursday.
It makes absolutely 0 difference in the grand scheme of things, I'm just curious.
