Personally, I like the idea w/ navies pitted against each other, but either way is fine w/ me.
This is your map and I'm just here to see what i can do to help.

This is my idea- it'll be someone else's map. I want the map that the most people in CC like. I'll play it either way. :-)

Hmm, I'm thinking the ironclads would be gunnery/battleship busters - you can only bombard gunneries and battleships from them. If they get a significant bonus, that should reduce the power of battleships and give the "ground troops" a fighting chance.

Will you be making the map?

No, I have no skill at photoshop or any similar art software, unfortunately. :-/

I'll put up a rough draft of what I think your idea is tomarrow if I can.

So you can only attack battleships from them?
Sounds good, it would help level out the high bonus of the battleships.
Do the ironclads still remain impenetrable from bombardment?
Oh, and I was thinking, rather than have the island smack dab in the middle, how about off-center or even entirely off to one side of the map? Just brainstorming...

Having it on the center is essential to maintain balance, unless there were two islands, one on one side, one on the other. That might make the most sense.

It will just be a lot of ovals and attack routes 'cause I don't have much time but it will have the concepts.

I already have a map on the first page, if that gives you any ideas.

okay, yeah, that sounds good, just brainstorming...

Where will the bombard points on the island be able to attack?
Will ships be able to bombard the beaches of the island?

Need American - War of 1812 theme. That would also include the Quasi War (the unofficial war with france)

Well, this is what I got.
It is pretty confusing with a lot of arrows but it is pretty simple. The arrows with 2 points are normal attacks and the one point arrows are one way. The dashedlines are bombardments and the solid lines are normal attackes. The brown requtangles between ships are boarding planks and count as spaces.

There is a logic to my attack routes.
Since ships can mostly just bombard things I had mostly bombardments. Also, the cannons on ships generaly only fire perpendicular to the ship and are predominently in the middle section I only had bombardments form the middle reigions on ships. The larger ships in gerneral can bombard more because they would have more cannons. The thin three reigion ships are bombard ships so they can bombard further and from the front of the ship.
The center is a fortress with towers in each corner. The towers can bombard cirtain ships. THe brown rectangles in the fort are gates and count as territories.
(The red arrows are attacking out form the towers.)

Well here it is, (The image quality is bad sorry).

It is too crowded. There are too many arrows going everywhere.
Also there is one dead end yellow boat. There is only one way in and no way out. There should be a connector between it and the yellow main ship.

Thanks a lot captainwalrus, that was a big help.
I gotta admit, it looks really cool, but really confusing...
I looked at cairnswk's Trafalgar map idea (he copied inhuman's naval battle idea) JK :D
Maybe we should talk to him and see what ideas he has for his map. That might help us to find ways to make our map less confusing. Plus, it can't hurt to talk to someone who's made as many maps as he has.

One Idea I had to eliminate the red arrows was have each tower a different color and have target symbols on the reigions which the towers can attack. Each tower can attack the spaces with the same color target as it. THis would eliminate a bunch of arrows but would not be perminant solution.

Any better ideas.

A simple description of what could attack what on a sidebar would suffice.

A simple description of what could attack what on a sidebar would suffice.

The problem with this is then each of the same type ship has to attack in the same way. What I like about this map is that each color is unique in the way it's ships can attack. This creates the effect that each color is a different nation which has their own type of ships with cirtain advantiages and disadvantages. If there was a sidebar which discibed the way each type of ship could attack it would get rid of this element.

If you'd look at the map I have posted on my main page, my idea is a lot more symmetrical. Needs a lot of work, but if everything is the same on all sides, and people start on the capital ships, everything is equal.

With the map that [player]captainwalrus[/player] made, if everyone starts on a capital ship, some are better off than others.

Yes but then the bonuses can be adjusted to match the ships. THink about it, some fleets aren't as good as others in actuality. In a real battle everything won't be equal.

True, but if you're starting everyone out on their capital ship, whoever starts out on ship X has an inherent advantage over the person that starts out on ship Y that has a slightly higher bonus but more of a difficult capture.

I'm thinking that this would be more of a prototype map for the "battle specific" maps like Trafalgar and Graveyards.

And again, whoever takes this map under their wing can mess around with it as much as they want, I just like getting my ideas out there.
