Independence Day (how ironic given the upcoming weekend).

So much hype before that movie came out it had to be pathetic.

My "favorite" scene had to be Jeff Goldblum; after pounding a bottle of Tequila and obviously smashed, suddenly has a moment of clarity, figures out how to destroy the aliens, and miraculously becomes completely sober .......

Bad bad bad movie.....

*EDIT* agreed on the Matrix sequels BTW, first one was great though.

haha and then proceeds to kill them with the biggest plot cheat in history - he writes a virus on a mac notebook and uploads it into the mothership via wifi. That still kills.

Excellent point. Lets not forget the countless cliches as well (too many to list).
I hate this movie with a passion.

I loved it because it was so ridiculous. Also, I didn't get the hype so I had no expectations. To me it was just a fun movie about Will Smith fighting aliens and talking witty to some jewish guy.

*EDIT* agreed on the Matrix sequels BTW, first one was great though.

I would agree as far as the ridiculous factor goes.
I love a "good, ridiculous" movie. (anyone seen "Top Secret" with Val Kilmer? )
The problem (as you mention) was the hype, which is why I put this at (or near) the top of my list of hated flicks....

Well yeah, no hype works wonders for such movies. Good thing I don't live in the USA. :) (I was also a bit too young when it was released anyway.)

Yup - I remember when it opened a lot of programmers took the day of at my old firm to go see it. They all returned looking like someone had run over their Newtons with a city bus (well, I think the Newton had already tanked by then actually ...)

Anyone see Superman IV? Poor Christopher Reeves... he was trying to take the franchise in a new direction... alas, he could have made a better movie about SuperMan taking on the world's paraplegia by performing neurosergery with his laser beam eyes!

Call it a parody of Narnia if you want - "Hey, Jim Bob, look at that! C.S. Boy, I'm glad they cleared that up for me. And look at that - Nicole Kidman must be Luke Skywalker's mother 'cause a little Jewish girl like that there Natalie Portman could never give birth to a fine Aryan lad like LUKE!"

Looks like I caught a case of your intellectual diarrhea...

How is the golden compass updated version of star wars?
You obviously didn't read this http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FiveManBand as both star wars and golden compass use this 5 man band. As do lots of movies and books, before and after star wars. Yes they both havethe 6th comic relief. Lots of movies/books use the 5 man band.

And to the bold part-wtf?

Anything with Ewie Boll's name attached to it. I don't even care to check the spelling of his name.

I don't think he wanted his movies to be good though.

I'm sick of dumb ass people who read a little "critical analysis" going on about how Narnia is nothing but unadulterated Christian propaganda. Anyone who is hung up on Christianity to (a) believe this, or (b) believe that other people believe this would probably make the above statement that caught your attention. I mean, come on... aren't there enough little Aryan blond boys with super powers running around in the Star Wars to just completely ruin it to have a non-Christian playing the mother. Come one man, stop listening to the talking heads and think for yourself...

Okay, I think I understand the gist of your post, though your communication skills are somewhat lacking. You should work on that.

But anyway, did you even read the Narnia books as a child? Or perhaps read Cliffnotes on them or anything? Or do you at least know anything about C.S. Lewis? Because the books were quite literally Christian fiction. Everything about them had something to do with Christianity. Now, obviously, Hollywood toned down the Christian message a bit and played up the fight scenes because otherwise the books would make terrible movies, but the point is, it's nowhere near being based off of Star Wars. And the Golden Compass trilogy is exactly the same way, except it's very anti-Catholic Church.

I mean, seriously, 70% of movies and books follow that 5-Man-Band stereotype. And every American sitcom does. Using your logic, I could relate King of Queens to Star Wars. Please take some Immodium, because your diarrhea of the mouth is quite irritating.

Matrix 2 & 3 were horrible. LOTR3 was definitely overrated. Couldn't even finish Minority Report. Star Wars Ep. 1 & 2 were a slap in the face to the originals, Ep. 3 was better but still was not even close to the originals. Any of the Harry Potters. And the list goes on and on.

Almost forgot. Titanic absolute worst bullshit ever put on screen.

As far as, Narnia-Golden Compass comparisons and contrasts. Maybe GC was purposely set in a way that was similar to Narnia just with the opposite message.

Yeah, um, that's the point friend. You obviously didn't read them as a kid. You read them after getting plenty of "interpretive guidance", or if you read them, your too hung up on how everyone else says they are propaganda to remember what you actually though of the stories... I read them sometime in grade school. Other than not quite knowing what Turkish delight was, and maybe I didn't pay enough attention to my bible school teacher, but there was absolutely nothing in the books that seemed even remotely "biblical" to me. I mean, Star Treck II: Wrath of Kahn, Spock sacrifices himself, only to come back in Star Treck III... it must be an alagory about Christ, right? Intent of the Author is not all that to a 12 year old kid.

Now for the schlock list: Atonement. Utter crap. It's like a rip off of Cold Mountain with the sex mixed in there around the middle instead of the end, a different manifestation of the nefarious force of the civil state, no action, and no Nicole Kidman titties :(

No, as a kid I figured out quite quickly without outside force that it was a Christian book. I'm sure if you looked up C.S. Lewis's commentary on his works he'd say the same thing.

Yeah, I agree with HOLOGRAM on this one.
I was like 6 when I knocked off the first couple. Can remember them very well now though...

But here is the Wiki. Though Lewis says that it wasn't his intent, he doesn't deny Christian themes.

I am a huge Harrison Ford fan, so I bought "Blade Runner" without ever having seen it. Everything I had ever heard said it was a great movie, a sci-fi masterpiece. I thought it was a steaming pile of shit. Just my opinion.

I really expected to like it - lots of people said it was a major film, people i respect and often agree with - but when i eventually saw it, sorry folks, but I just found it tedious obvious and rather preachy.
