Because most of those only rely on supernatural beings and shit. Scientology takes it a few steps futher.

I have a friend in NYC who is an actor. he had lunch with Nicole Kidman's -agent once, and apparently Tom's gayness is Hollywood's biggest open secret. Everyone knows John Travolta is gay, and Kelly Preston is just a beard - well so is Katie. Tom even brings his boyfriend - and a threat of massive legal muscle for anyone who publishes the fact* - on set with him.
The deal is 'hello, young actress. You can have the keys to the A-list and all the money and comfort you need; all you need to do is play Tom Cruise/John Travolta's wife.' Katie was 4th on the list, too, apparently. Scarlet Johanssen was, by all accounts, first. But Scarlet had a career going on and turned him down.
