they are supposed to be. :)

My point is that you don't tell somebody they can break the rules just because they say they really, really want to. Not even if they really, really, REALLY want to.

I am, however, open to the notion of changing the rules for everybody. Reworking the user interface seems to be the best possible option.

So, I challenge everyone to propose a solution to the huge map conundrum that:
1. sets up the same set of rules/expectations for every mapmaker,
2. doesn't exclude any users from being able to play maps due to monitor size,
3. maintains a friendly user interface, and
4. will make lack happy. :)
100% agree. The issue is not that we don't want larger maps, it is how to get them. Lack has said time and again he does not want anyone to be left out of playing any map. Disregarding the small map will leave players out.

Right now the only way is to change the interface and I believe that is being worked on. If there are any suggestions I am sure they will want to be heard.

So all of you cartographers out there who like to make pretty pictures (and want bigger maps), develop a screen shot of a user friendly interface that works on 1024 wide monitor resolution that allows bigger maps.

retractable menu bars.
both left and top bars can hide when idle and pop up when mouse hovers over them. this way the whole screen is available. also make the whole attack menu floating. very simple to do and a lot of space is saved (not enough but still a lot)

also if lack wants to make all maps available for all users then why is world 2.1 so big? and even more important how come so many people play it despite having to scroll so much?

again i'm pretty convinced that if a map is good people are willing to scroll and world 2.1 proves me right.
