I can understand why you wouldnt want to play deadbeats, but thats where my understanding comes to a close.

i agree with you to an extent.

first of all the goal of CC is to become conqueror (yes some people say their goal is just to have fun or just to chat or stuff like that, but the vast majority will want to hold the #1 spot at some point.

that being said, we come to the scoring system where if you play against low rankers you have to win like 90% of your games which is impossible. SO if you want to become conqueror never play people that are ranked bellow you. plain and simple.

on your way to the #1 spot you'll also want to have some fun, right? well let's see, one of the fastest ways of gaining points is playing escalating games. they end in 10-15 turns so the faster they end the more games you can play and the more points you can gain (in theory). the problem with escalating is that many people don't understand it properly. and when a cook suicides on you just to break your south america bonus even though the next cash-in is 30, you kinda get the urge to give him a piece of your mind. in short the chances of a low ranker doing something stupid in escalating games is really high in escalating games. i'm not saying all low rankers do this but merely that high rankers understand escalating better.

and since we're talking about low rankers spoiling your game in escalating , we can extend that to all game types. suicide, revenge, ignorance of other people's bonuses, or simply going for the highest ranked player in that game are all perfectly good reasons why a high ranker will feel reluctant to playing low rankers.

so you see, the main reasons why a high ranker will avoid low rankers are:
1. impossible to make big profits
2. high chances of frustration caused by the low ranker's inability to play the game properly.

i don't care much about my rank. but i do care about my fun factor. i played cooks and cadets and had loads of fun because i knew them and even if they grabbed 50 of my points in a single win i didn't care much.

i play 3 kinds of games:
1. with friends regardless of rank (good chat - loss of points)
2. with high rankers (experience gained - this is where my points come from)
3. tourney games (for fun - usually loss of points)

i only play singles games because i find them more challenging and more fun.

from the 1st type of games i get lots of satisfaction because i like playing against my friends.
from the 2nd type i also get lots of satisfaction because i learn new strategies and because i like a good challenge
from the third type i'm beginning to kinda lose my fun and gain on the frustration thing. mainly because in tourney i encounter all kinds of people that simply screw my game because they don't know how to play. probably in the near future i'll stick to #1 and #2. will that make me a snob? i hope not. to be honest i've had a lot of recent screw-ups cause by low rankers perhaps i'm a bit biased by these recent happenings or perhaps not but the point is i care too much about my fun factor to let somebody spoil it.

If you can say that you ranked over 2000 points and always played public games. Then you have achieved self worth.Which is worth 50 number 1 spots.
Highest Rank 4th.

I am a lowly 1st Sargent lol. I have over 160 active games going I move from capt to sargent and back on a endless cycle. i do lose to some cooks and such at times. The fun is in the playing. I rarely look at the chat unless I am in with either great friends or great players. I never form alliances.

Because of the type of games I play (public) I will never make it above Major. But quite a few players believe that I am worth the opportunity to play. I play Quite a few high rankers and have only met 2 snobs. But that is better than real life.

 You were Captain a couple of days ago and then a sergeant. I looked at a lot of my games and thought, "Shit... now almost everyone has a lower rank than me and one of them is definitely a better player... chances of losing points = very high!" And I'm just 1st Class Sergeant pushing lieutenant.

I admire you wacicha for creating so many public games against worse players and not being afraid to lose points. Personally, I join few games where there is not at least one 1st class Sergeant or better because, even though I have only 1700-1800 points, I could end up losing between 30 and 40. Does this make me a snob? I hope not. But, as Dim said, almost everyone wants to get a higher rating and this can only be acheived by playing players better or of a similar level to yourself.

Another top player who I've played a number of public games with is Klobber. He did make Major, while being in several games with players of my standard or less... quite a feat!

i can't say i always played public games. i have my share of privates from games with friends or in tourneys. BUT i can say i went over 2000 points mainly from public singles games. in fact my team games have given me a profit of just 34 points. and yes i am proud of that. i'm more proud by the fact that i managed to keep that rank by playing in wacicha's public games and in the CC2000 games.

as for this being worth as much as 50 #1 spots i guess the truth is in the eyes of the beholder. in the eyes of johnnyrocket24 i'm just a retarded noob.

There's an easy solution: add unrated games to the options mix. Then there is the option to make winning the only goal.

As in someone who doesn't show up to play - misses all their turns.

I'm not sure if what KoE_Sirius says is right but it could result in a lot of highrankers just protecting their points. There are some instances where it might be useful but I'd rather have every game a competitive one, so that you know what you're fighting for

They have unranked games in Yahoo games. The chances of finishing a game are really slim.Plus we have unranked games on ewarzone where people play for fun.It used to be plagued with people leaving games and in turn making the whole game void.
This is why KoE,GM,Circle,RT,RL and XI games came in to join up people who don't quit games.
Making the games unrated would bring all these things into play.

ovo, if you expect as much chat as you give, you will be sorely dissapointed

I cant even keep up with you

as far as snobbery, im not sure the game choice is based on snobbiness, i believe they are chosen for the ones that will be the most fun, and possibly give them the best chance at winning points... I play lots of open games myself, but I do so knowing full well, Im going to have to work to get the points back that I will inevitably lose

I dont blame those who dont find this enjoyable...anymore than I blame them if they dont feel like playing assasin games or freestyle games

high ranked games are completely different than open games.... theres much less chance of confrontation, much less chance of losing 60-70 points, almost no chance of cheating, and a very good chance of having some extreme competition

I go up and down the ranks a lot, and I never really expect those with higher ranks to play me... I never ask, because I dont blame them for not wanting to risk 50 points on a game I have a fairly equal chance of winning....

I love to play against new recruits in 1v1 freestyle games just because I'm already addicted to my usual Game Chat introduction of "Good luck, m8 and welcome to Conquer Club." while hoping that they don't deadbeat.

Note: However, I would seize the rare opportunity to play against any high ranked player with lesser than 10 negative feedbacks who I've not challenged before in a 1v1 freestyle public game created by them whenever available.

I'll play against anyone I can...

But, I'd like to try to avoid the highest ranks if at all possible...

Also, about wishing people luck, I find it a bit awkward at times...
or maybe it's just me...
(by the time my games get started and I notice it, someone has probably already said good luck)
frankly...I think the last time I actually used the chat was in a team game...about 4 months ago...

I am enjoying reading this thread, thus far it has been one of the more sensible discussions on the public v private games debate.

I have always been of the belief that all players should have the opportunity to play all other players. I am fairly certain I will always be a low ranker for a combination of reasons (primarily because I am brutal at this game) but there are many on here I have come to know and would love to play but I totally understand at the moment why they would not want to play me because of the risk of losing their precious pts.

I always believed 0 pt games would be a potential solution to this but as previously stated this too would have problems.

I suspect this debate will continue for a long time to come but I don't believe in the main this is because a % of high rankers are snobs it is because of a fear that a/ they could lose a huge amount of pts and b/ that the games will not be challenging enough.
Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.

as to a) - its true, but its not uncommon to find those who care less about it and manage to maintain it nonetheless (from thota fitz and i are good examples) as for b) the dip in intellect is challenging sometimes because at the highest level you pretty much know exactly whats going to happen and you dont have that playing noobs (especially in singles games when some really dumb shit happens that is impossible to legislate for)

its easier to beat shit, low rank players so i guess winning 8 points from a cadet is better than losing 'only' 8 to a ...point collector.
