I see someone voted to start over on the map....Yep....very constructive. I don't see any explanation. Maybe because he does not like better looking things? Maybe his mouse slipped? Yep, you gotta work on your mouse control buddy.... That's sad. I bet many a time he has ended attacks early. Poor guy. That's probably why he is mad at life and thus the map. Don't take it out on pengui..... Its not his fault you gots butter fingers....

I see where it does look like they are thicker in Central Axis, although I am unsure as to how they turned out that way since I used the exact same brush and size for all the borders. As for the "mountains", I think you may be talking about the impassable borders. These are actually not there in real life, and are just added for gameplay. I haven't done anything with them in the draft I have presented thus far, other than drawing their borders. That is one point I meant to mention earlier. If anybody has suggestions on what to do for the impassable borders (since they aren't really there in real life) please post your ideas!

Hmm interesting. I always just assumed those were mountains.

Also I hate to say this, but try going over the borders again with a pencil. That will probably work better. I'm assuming you used photoshop, and their brush changes thickness depending on how you click I believe.

See, I gotta go and eat my words now. No butter on thoes fingers, just thinkin through the answer. See....that almost never happens anymore. People don't think about things any more. No one really cares about stuff. But there are still some that do, i guess this is a good place for that the whole strategists and what not. Cool beans....

Better Its working out nicely.... Stil some issues..
The Territory names are a little hard to read .. adjust font to spread letters out a bit.....colors are decent... borders could be sharper... try to make the impassable bordersa bit clearer more defined

Part of the reason I am having problems with the impassable borders is because they weren't mountains...why can't they be mountains...it would be soo much easier  (but if anyone has an idea what to do for the impassable borders, please let me know)

Yes, I am using photoshop cs3. I've got it set to a 2 pixel brush, but I know what you mean about it adjusting the thickness, or the darkness, depending on how you move the mouse. I've tried a pencil before, and it just makes the borders too pixelated it seems. I will be happy to do it again though and post the result so that you can see if I may be doing it wrong.

I will try some of these ideas, and a few of mine that may make it look better, and have them posted for you soon! Thanks for the advice.

I can try to make it a little larger, however this is the small version of the map...so if i get too large (unless i just make a 1 sized map???) then there will be too much scrolling for people every turn.

Back to mapmaking.... I noticed 6 people voted start over or other. I asked nicely to POST WHY if you chose one of those.
Please give me feedback on the map. I know I have some stuff to work over, but if you vote one of those choices, tell me why so I can make the map better for everyone! :D

I actually don't like what I saw on page 1 here.

The Brazil map is very good when it comes to gameplay. The design of the territories and their borders vis-a-vis bonus etc. is great. It's a map that rewards smart gameplay while at the same time allows for players to turn a game around. Not changing anything here is a good thing.

The visual then. Looking at the pics, the actual map occupies about half of each picture. There's to much surrounding visual crap there. What makes a good map is the actual map, not the fancy graphics.

I suggest keeping the simple visual format, just spicing it up a little bit. As those pics are now, the territories are small, names crosses borders all over the place; all in all this makes it more difficult to get a good overview.

Just polishing it would do. And the colors used here hurts my eyes more than the original map does.

But that's just my two cents.

Yes, one of the main things Marv told me was no change to the gameplay...I agree with you, keeping it the same is good.

I will try to keep all of this in mind, I do agree that the territories are small and that some of the names are crossing borders, and I am going to be changing the font/size as was suggested before. With the small territories, they are the exact same size as the original, but I wouldn't mind enlarging them.

alstergren wrote:Just polishing it would do. And the colors used here hurts my eyes more than the original map does.

Not sure why the colors would hurt your eyes, as I think they are muted more than the original...I tried to make them a lighter shade than the original to make everything easier to read.

Thank you for actually manning up and saying why you chose one of those last two options!

I should have said this before, but the dark brown behind the "parchment" itself will not be there. I will be cropping the image size to only that of the "parchment background" itself

There really is an excess of wasted space here. I think you could probably make the map itself an extra 100px bigger and fill in all that empty space. You would perhaps need to move the title to the top-right corner and the flag down to the bottom-right corner. I don't see why this should cause any problems for Marv or yourself.

Brazil is a land of Jungles and Cattle and Women in tiny bikinis. I don't get the sense of any of that here.

That's perfectly fine. I will enlarge the map as I have previously stated, and I will move the title and flag to make better use of the size of the empty space.

Start over on the map, I don't like it (Explain below)
15% [ 6 ]

I seriously don't like this map at all. I love the original because the game play smacked you right in the face when you looked at the map. Now it just looks like a piture trying to be pretty...

I don't like:

the background, which looks like a desert floor
the hovering font
the way the title touches northwest bonus
the colors of the territories (lack of texture)
the territory border colors
the ugly colors
the way this new style looks and feels nothing like brazil...
the way the map looks like a cluster f*ck with army shadows on it...
the way the borders aren't explained nor identifiable
the way there is font written on the only thing that gives this map a brazilian feel to it.

Personally I'm obviously not a big fan of this revamp. I love this map and would rather see it left alone than turned into a Sahara desert with obnoxious colors slapped on it. That and the only thing I actually dislike with the original is that the font is a bit tuff to read at times. The font on this version isn't much of an inprovement...

Sorry if I come off sounding like an asshole and rude or whatnot, but I like this map A LOT and it is one of my favorite maps to play. That is why I am being so blunt about my dislikes. The last thing I want to happen is a map no longer be a favorite because I don't like how it looks anymore and or I didn't give any feedback to prevent it from getting destroyed.

The original has simpleness, obviousness and a bit of a brazilian feel to it. I think you should try and capture the same thing in your revamp instead of trying to just make it a cooler looking picture. It's a map of brazil and should be able to give a brazilian feel to it not make me feel like I'm playing a map that looks like it's painted on some sand that the wind has been blowing around...
