It is often automatically generated, processed or sent, but doesn't have to be to fit the definition of spam.
BTW, I like getting these invites, so no problem from me, but it is technically spam.
Agreed, and nicely said. It is spam, but it's not much of an issue here.
Duk- would an opt-in or out feature be feasible for wall stuff like this?
I have no idea.
I suppose it's theoretically possible to have some kind of "exclusive" filter on wall posts like you can on gmail, where nobody can contact you until they've been previously authorized.
Whether the owner would spend his time programming it? I'd be doubtful. Seems like a a lot of work for very dubious gain. His position is that there are already too many personalized options on CC, and each one adds to the complexity of code and the number of potential bugs.
Would I as a member of the community be in favour of it? Absolutely not. From the point of view of community-building, I think the relatively egalitarian nature of wall posts and PMs is a good thing. Having more obstacles to communication would be a bad thing. I think it's good that people have the option to extend unsolicited comments to other members of the community. If someone gets to be a pain in the ass, you can foe them, and if they get to be a really BIG pain in the ass they can be banned. Barring a level of annoyance sufficient to justify foeing or a ban, I think it's good for the community that random people you don't even know can pass by and say, "hey, come join my tournament" or "I'm starting a new clan" or "I think there's a thread in the Suggestions forum I'd like your opinion on."

the amount of time/money/resources, etc, make this an absolute waste of time to even discuss... it was ONE post on the guys wall that he is upset about. the offender admitted he saw him online and was trying to get a 50 player game filled with people on the site at the actual time. this is not some nepharious act that needs to be programmed out of the site, it was one user trying to get a game filled, and one user blowing it out of proportion. if i complained every single time i got a wall post i did not want or solicit, they should just start another section of C&A for me... this is a waste of time, this thread is a waste of time. it was solved/resolved, nobody is going to program this non-issue out of being...-Jn

It was actually 2 posts, plus an additional post from a seperate party on a friends wall that inclined me to start this. Quit jumping to conclusions. Any time on a game site could be considered a waste. You could be out curing obesity instead of this. This is a very grey atea you are walking on. Please be careful when telling someone how time on a gaming site should be spent. I would hate to jave to dissect each and every one of your forum posts to understand what you consider is wasted vs. not wasted time. I have a very good friend on this site that is keen to filing federal lawsuits, and this thread alone could make me millions.
In addition, I dont expect any sort of coding to be done, I would have only wanted to let the organizer, if any, of this battle royal spam campaign to know that I had already recieved my weekly spam limit, I was later informed that there was no campaign so im good.

Hmm, I wouldn't have thought it'd require much coding, just a simple change in behaviour and an opt out list.
Switch from wall posts to PMs. Don't PM those who opt out.
I don't know how the back end of the site works, but that seems like a reasonable workaround.

It's a rare case when I get a wall notification, so when I do i have to admit I get a bit excited to see who took time out of their day to go through the trouble of writing me a message. Ill let you imagine the amount of dissapointment I feel when I check it and see some battle Royale wall spam that was obviously some sort of mass campaign to get people to play battle royales. The more this occours, the more excitement it will drain when I notice a wall post. If it occours too often, I may tend to stop checking them. Alltogether, possibly missing a friendly greeting from a kind e-soul that in turn will result in less e-friends. This happens enough with the decline hitting a new gear after a stark upburst over the holidays.
Im not against it, its just ive gotten two useless wall posts this week, and im just wondering if I have to just keep dealing with it, or is there somewhere I can go to opt out?

Sure, I was a little drunk (I actually initially used a more vulgar word than "baby" but decided to tone it down )
My intention is not to grossly offend you personally. I just find the complaint a little whinny and entitled. (I might say this to a close friend as well, no need to get too upset IMO)
But I guess the simplest solution to your problem would be to have an option to only allow Friends to post on your wall OR to only be notified of posts by Friends. (Shit, I'd probably opt for that option myself and just keep a well curated Friend list.)

I've put a suggestion in the Suggestions forum that I hope will help with this. The suggestions forum is kind of an evolving process, so it'd be great if you guys could take a look and throw in your two cents.

You might be right, some of the time, but not in this case. I'm not leaving this thread because I'm tired, I'm leaving this thread because I've already made my summation and I'm happy to leave it with the jury now. This thread is a tempest in a teapot, nobody is significantly injured by occasionally having a random stranger invite them to some event, and the existing system of foes and/or bans is sufficient to deal with people who would abuse the privilege.

Well, if noting you have a habit of stirring things up then departing when faced with tough questions .
I understand the tactic, It's easier to flee the admit you're wrong.
