No. I do not like it.

I have nothing against the idea at all.
The question for me is will it be interesting, will any sane people actually have any insteresting discussions there. And for that the answer is simple: time will tell.

Might be a bit bugged still btw, all the chat just disappeared for me and it went black. But... might be me who hasn't fogured out the finer points if this new technology yet

It seams that the chat window refreshes at least once per day to a blank sheet, i have been trying to work out the timing, but it also may be that a threshold has been reached aslo.

So I have a question. Did someone go through this thread and manually change settings for users who expressed any type of negativity about the Global Chat? I did NOT change my settings to automatically hide the chat, and yet a couple days ago, it was gone. I thought that you had removed it. Until I investigated some, and discovered that my settings had in fact been set to not show the chat. It apparently happened to DaGip too.

So I'm asking, and I want a mod response: Did you change my settings?

You know, I think this almost needs an entire thread on its own, because there has been a number of times that I believed mods had switched things on my account without my consent.

When Global Chat was first set up, it was automatically on when I opened my account; I didn't even know you could change that in settings. So, the next day it was gone. I thought maybe it got removed because there were too many complaints or it was still buggy. Then Andy said that he could remove Global Chat through settings.

Then, also, when I logged in and Global Chat was removed for me, somebody had engaged the Advanced Game Processing settings that I didn't even know fucking existed! Andy had to tell me again that it could be changed in settings. I thought it was permanent changes CC was making to the website, but somebody went into my settings and activated the Advanced Game Processing.

In addition, there was a time (I never complained about it then) that I had tried starting up a D&D play by post game. My character images I showed were ones I had picked out for what I was imagining the characters to look like.

When I revisited the thread, I had seen that someone had changed my Dwarf:

to some old pixelated Dwarf from some obscure website:

Global chat is still in early evaluation for performance & load on the site.
It was slowly being rolled out to users in stages. As it moved forward and expanded, some issues with performance and load were being observed & evaluated.
As such, some users who may have had the new feature rolled out, may have had it rolled back due to global affecting overall site performance.
But, it wouldn't have been "targeted" to those who provided negative (or positive) responses, and not manually selecting users. It would be whole groups rolled back, not just individuals.

At least, that's my understanding of the situation / history of the feature if it helps. PM me if you have further questions / issues.

Global chat is the one element that CC did not have until now, and which all other online games have. I think adding global chat was the single most important element in modernizing CC, and will be the most important element in improving our new member retention rate.

A new player who arrives in an online game expects to be able to ask questions and interact with people in real time. Asking questions in a forum and waiting until the next day to get an answer is just not the same. Interacting with people in a game where they may not take their turn until the next day is also not the same.

In a perfect world everybody would read all the FAQs before playing a game, but we know that doesn't happen in the real world. People jump right in and suddenly find themselves over their head, and they need to be able to ask a question and get an instant answer, without leaving the screen they're on. That's the experience one has in all other online games, and it's long overdue for CC.

I think it's a pretty cool addition, tbh. Am i there much? no. But if i didn't like it, it seems to be a pretty easy thing to ignore. Perhaps we should be able to hide it in our settings with an on/off switch? That way the new can get on and the old can get off?

Edit: Hey... i found the on/off switch! I'll leave mine on.

Well I wish they would stop it. Son of a bitch logged into my account last night and changed all my games so that I was losing! The nerve!

Many of the knowledgeable CC members spend more time on the forum than they do playing games (and for some of us it's 100% of the time) so these newbies are losing out on the best help as long as the chat isn't open on the forums
