Makes sense - L'Orient = The Orient = The East (in both English and French).
Interesting to note that Lorient is located in France's Brittany region in the north
west part of the country.
Go figure.

Ligue 1A is now full, and Ligue 1B is now half-full.
We now have about 3 weeks to find those last 10 players.

Hey, i found the explanation (in French of course), could you translate mate?

Sure thing!
The city of Lorient was founded in 1666 to support the French East Indies Company*, which had been founded by Jean-Baptiste Colbert in 1664 in nearby Port-Louis. The small size of Port-Louis led to the construction of a dockyard in an uncultivated area known as Faouédic, located upstream from Port-Louis at the junction of the Scorff and Blavet rivers. The first ship built there was named "The Oriental Sun." The inhabitants of the region, who had gotten into the habit of coming to "the Orient" to watch the ship being built, gave its name to their new city.
*Most Americans are probably more familiar with the unrelated but similarly named Dutch East India Company, who employed such early explorers of North America as Henry Hudson, who sailed up the river now named for him, which is located in my home state of New York.
