First post has been updated with a short list of maps mentioned so far. From now on when people mention maps, can they please give details of what specifically needs to be revamped and how urgent they feel the revamp is.

I was thinking that perhaps revamps could be done in order of their popularity in mibi's Current Top Maps thread.

Also, feel free to provide arguments against revamps. I don't think Ireland needs one at all, I actually think it's one of the better looking maps on the site. If others support the idea one way or the other it can remain on the list or be removed.

I will personally do all the contacting of the original cartographers, so don't worry yourselves with such details. Just remember it will take time to sort out the details and get approval from each. This is all unoffical at the moment.

Sorry Wisse, I must of missed that post. :?

Don't put a limit on how many maps a person can revamp, if someone ends up revamping most of them so be it. Best person for each job I say. Anyone has the option to create a map of their own from scratch so no-one is losing out.

I agree. And that is not because I want to do them all. :D The Montreal map and Brazil really don't do anything for me. I probably will not want to do those revamps. Best person for each job.

And I don't think that other map makers will be able to just copy another's idea. If two people revamp the Brazil map and there is a clear leader with their style, what if the losing map makers changes his style to the make them the same but it looks better. (I.E. Steal the design but with better results). How do we work that out? As long as it is within the time period, should it be allowed?

i think the following are not that urgent revamps:
circus maximus (the graphics are ok arent they? dunno why people dislike it maybe its the gameplay)

THIS DONT NEED REVAMPS AT ALL IMO:
Ireland
North America

theyre perfect!

Personally I think revamps are a great opportunity for new or inexperienced cartographers to have a crack at making a map that they know will get through the foundry. I see a lot of ideas put before the foundry that never develop for whatever reason, so I think giving more people the opportunity to do a revamp is encouraging for the map making community.

To get around the idea stealing problem, perhaps drafts could be sent to me via PM. I would be able to give feedback on these maps up until a cut-off date when the ideas would be presented to the foundry and voted on. Just an idea.

Back to limits on the revamps... I'm thinking that we should restrict cartographers to a maximum of 3 revamps. I really think a stand needs to be made here for two reasons.
    1. People will be discouraged from contributing if it's just the same small group of cartographers that keep getting picked for the job.
    2. I'd like to see different visual styles across all the maps. WidowMakers and mibi are clearly our best visual artists, but both have their own unique style. I really want to push the idea that anyone can attempt a revamp, not just our best cartographers.

again i must say i disagree with this limiting. so what if widow wants to revamp all of them? if he manages to pull better images than the rest i don't think that's a problem. after all the map foundry is about quality not about giving everybody a fair chance. anybody should be allowed to do as many revamps as he likes and the foundry will decide which are best. i don't want a map revamped by a poor cartographer just because the best ones reached their limit. let's be sserious here if widow has the time and skills to revamp everything on this site and make it better i won't mind seeing his sig everywhere. it's his right.

Ireland 100% doesn't need a re-vamp! It is a lovely map!

As for Britain, it isn't a graphical thing for me but more of a territory thing... A lot of them are way off and I think it needs a whole overhaul gameplay wise rather than graphics wise, so not changing territories and borders would sort of defeat the objective.

so what about Europe - from what I´ve read it´s one of the most disliked maps?

..but since it isn´t just the graphics that suck, a graphical revamp is pretty useless.
Does this mean that it´s effectively blocking a decent european map from ever appearing at CC just because it sucks in too many ways?

a bit of a catch 22 isn´t it?

edit: well a decent europe 2.0 kind of would solve the problem that so many europeans hate the european map.

In good time.

I think Europe's gameplay is ok, but it really does need some fixing up visually.

I concur... hence my comment earlier... about however made it didn't live here!!!

The gameplay is good on it - just the locations are dubious...

Europe is one of my favorite maps...
the graphics are miles ahead of many of the others...if its on the list it better be last.

and ireland definitely does not need a revamp. its just a different style.

Not that anyone cares what i think... but europe is one of my fav maps too. I think that the graphics on it are perfect, and the game play is excellent.

oh.. a european who thinks the european map is perfect.. my bad then..

never mind - guess I went off-topic since what I really want is Europe 2.0 and that would not be a revamp.
