Wtf is wrong with rap? Only thing that bests it is some hardcore metal. To be fair, a lot of rappers are shite but some of the best really are really good.

My personal suggestions as far as hip-hop goes:
The Arsonists
Eyedea and Abilities
Wu-Tang Clan/Gravediggas
Lords of the Underground
KRS-1
Masta Killa
Dungeon Family (Outkast minus Big Boi with a different DJ)
COMPLEX
Thats just the tip of the iceberg... If you want more suggestions, I can supply some.
Don't listen to all these idiots with there negative sterotypes, they've never heard a rap song that wasn't on a mainstream radio station or MTV, therefore they know NOTHING of the genre. And you can't forget about good ol' prejudice. Most of the people that "hate" rap just don't like it because it has roots in Black culture. Bigotry is everywhere.

Akon is bullshit. if your first album gets released on Universal you aint paid your dues. He's major label, watered down commercial bollocks. its not hip-hop its pop.
Once again I'd like to DEFINITELY recommend the
INDIEFEED HIP-HOP PODCAST

LOL at akon being put forward, terrible terrible music
me... im a heavy indie fan, however to say all rap is crap is a very bad generalisation
past the akons and the bs on music channels there is some genuine artists like talib kweli, mos def and of course tupac as mentioned earlier
also some true talent can enter the mainstream like kanye west (first album) and outkast

Wu Tang are pretty hardcore, they pretty much innovated the hardcore rap style and the lyrical content is pretty harsh...
What kind of rap do you like at the moment? If you let me know what your vague tastes are I can recommended artists you may find more favorable. Wu-Tang aint for everyone.

Everything. Pop-rap at its worst. 110% focused around exploiting the public and making as much money as possible. He's the reason a lot of people in this tread make inane comments like 'rap=crap'

I liked Young Buck before G-Unit. I liked him & D-Tay back when he did the Young Buck & D-Tay albums. Of course I like Tupac, Bone Thugz, didn't care much for NWA or Eazy-E, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg & Talib Kweli are ok. I liked some of Kanye West's songs like We Don't care, but none of his songs that got famous...theres some
...btw didn't Mos Def appear to general audience for the first on the Chappelle's Show?

To tell the truth, the best Wu Tang Clan album is
Enter The Wu Tang (36 Chambers). The whole album is quality, where the other LP's have some stand out tracks but a lot of chaff too. As regards releases by the Clan done under other names check out Gza's
Liquid Swords (
the best Wu Tang product in my opinion), Old Dirty Bastard's
Return To The 36 Chambers and Ghostface Killah's
Ironman.

Ok, I was pretty excited when Kyle told me about that freshie guy.
After a couple of days, I've noticed this stuff is kind of boring. Most of it lacks melody.

You should try listening to Rage Against The Machine then. They're a rock band with an angry Mexican rapping over the music.
Also, check out DJ Krush. He's a Japanese hip hop DJ/producer and a flautist too, and his work is very musical and melody driven.

You might hate to hear this if you're into the real thing. I'm kind of digging Eminem these days.
