Cars 2 was way over rated. I enjoyed the story line in the first movie. My son watched the first one for 2 months straight. The second one we couldn't even get through. I think it was just too much of a leap forward from where the first one left off.
I haven't seen many non animated movies, kids are demanding.

I personally find Pirates of the Caribbean overrated
I agree on movies 3+. I liked the first 2.
As for avatar ...
If only it had a 30 second scene at the end with some guy saying: "Huh, they kicked us off the planet ... Well, I guess now we have the excuse we were looking for. Nuke everything from orbit"
If it had that scene I think it would have doubled in quality in my eyes.

Cars 2 was the worst rated Pixar movie ever so I doubt it qualifies.
Avatar by far heads the list. Not surprised Phatscotty likes it.
If you go by Award winning movies then you can add Crash(2005), Slumdog Millionair(2008), The Artist(2011) and even The Kings Speech(2010). All forgetable films that won best picture.
Pretty much ever Wienstein Co. Oscar bait picture is highly overrated. The Reader & My Week With Marilyn come to mind. Kate Winslet winning for that was a joke. But the full court press was put on to get her the award.

avatar wasnt bad as a movie but it didnt live up to the hype it was made out to be.
hurt locker is over-rated, walked out half way through it, something ive never done for a war theme film.

I actually saw hurt locker without knowing it was supposed to be good, I enjoyed i very much and predicted the guy to win the oscar. I failed.

I think that the new clash of the titans (2010, not the 81' version) was extremely over advertised and people thought it would be good and it actually sucked.

I AM LEGEND.
Will Smith end of the world flick. Crappy in so may ways. He lives in a house near Washington Square Park in his vampire mutant fortress. Throughout the movie you see bowls of fresh apples, bananas and oranges. I guess Fresh Direct was still in business.
In a single day he works in his lab to find a cure, takes a high speed car ride in Time Square, shoots golf balls off the USS Intrepid and makes it to the Brooklyn Bridge by noon.
The CGI monsters ruined the whole energy of the movie. It was two different movie in one.

The Tree of Life.
Although the actors were perfect, it was the longest and most boring movie I've seen recently.
All these metaphors...
And don't start me on the dinosaurs...
At first, i thought "Sean Penn is in it, it's got to be a good movie".., but no.
Had they made it shorter and spare me all the rethorical bullshit, it could have been a fucking great movie.
Boring and way too long.

American Beauty
Viewing 1: this is so cool. Kevin spacey pwns all actors. Awesome freakin movie.
Viewing 2: Huh, was Kevin Spacey's character this annoying the first time? And why does Thora Birch want a boob job? Her boobs are already, like pretty big to begin with. We know this because you showed them to us.
Viewing 3: you know, I don't really want my husband spilling drinks on the couch either. This movie kinda sucks.

Titanic... huge hype... grand special effects... just an ok story line & movie. Didn't see Avatar... LoTRs gave me something to do on Xmas Eve for three consecutive years, entertaining,
but not great.
Enjoyed the book The Hobbit and can't imagine a film that does it justice,
much like DUNE, great read... so so movie.

Fun thread.....
I LOVED Avatar...one of my fave all time movies

I am a scifi junkie and love a good fight / falling in love theme (with violence), so.....
Hoping not to be disappointed by Battleship and Expendables 2....

yes

well it was more of a character piece then a traditional war movie, it was decent but not spectacular i still enjoy watching it from time to time.
Crash is an over-rated movie, dont know why it won an academy award i guess they were too chicken to give it to brokeback mountain. admitted not a terrible movie just not deserving on an academy award imo.

Also, every Star Wars movie. Well, to be fair, I haven't seen them all, but the second three seem to have been put down even by Star Wars fans.

You have shitty taste if you think M&C is overrated.
And now the star wars hate when you haven't seen them? A New Hope and Empire are classics. the rest blow.
