Back on topic.

I was raised by two Republican parents, although they were nowhere as "into" politics as I am now. I am pro-life from womb to grave. I'm for pulling yourself up by the bootstraps and making something of yourself instead of expecting the government to make something out of you. I believe smaller government is a good thing. I believe there are two kinds of people...Doers (Republicans) and Takers (Democrats). I believe there are absolute right and wrongs... with no shades of gray. I was dragged to church off and on as a child. Which I hated until the day Jesus became a real in my life. I believe that God's laws trump man's. I believe the purpose in life for all men is to serve God and learn to love Him. I am close-minded because I believe God is and accept what God says. Yeah, I'm a Jesus Freak.

yet you are pro war? doesnt that seem a bit hypocritical, isnt 'thou shalt not kill' a big thing?

anyway...

Im 16, Chinese Australian. Im very much pro-peace, in terms of politics and government I think that none is the best soloution combined with a true communist society. I walk or ride most places cause its better for the enviroment  im pro-choice and consider myself buddhist

lol, I can't speak for whoever else was of the opinion that you're a girl but I just assumed for reasons I am not aware of lol. I know, perhaps it was the avatar you used before your current one.

Anyway, no offence intended - take it as a compliment :D

I'm a white male, raised in the suburbs of Detroit. I graduated from UD Mercy and now (hopefully) Michigan Theological. I'm as sure that the Bible is the Word of God as I am of anything, so I use that as my guidebook. The tradition I am from generally prefers not be be called by a name, but we'd be known by most as brethren. (I'm Open) That being said, I feel like Christ-followers have a responsibility to be more loyal to Christ than to anything else, so if you think it's in the Bible, I'm willing to listen to your argument.
As a result of all this, I'm not much of a fan of any political parties. They both seem amoral, and more focused on power than anything else. #-o As for political systems, I'm convinced that they are all imperfect because they are always run by imperfect people.
War? I'm torn. I hate human suffering and injustice, so I guess I can be swayed by an argument either way, as the path to the least suffering. That being said, sometimes the hard road is the right road.
I'm pretty annoyed with the metro-Detroit area, because we seem bent on our own destruction. Detroit is about as racially segregated as it gets, which is sad. The suburbs generally feel the city is foolish, and the city feels the suburbs are arrogant. Both are probably right. :? We're refusing to accept the demise of the auto industry, so the socio-economic situation is only going to get worse.

I was raised by very devout christian parents who trained with New Tribes Missions (the missionaries who were speared by rain forest indians in that movie were personal friends), but my mother was found to be anemic, and so they never made it to the field. We had "family devotions" every night, and i never saw a trace of hypocrisy in their lives. They were very "patriotic" however, and so i was raised with "God and country" as a foundation. I was a problem child, constantly in trouble, and i ran away from home and lived on the street when i was 16. I enlisted in the army at 17, and determined to do something honorable with my life by serving my country. That was 1968 - bad timing. I threw everything i had into succeeding as a soldier, and at 18 i was attached to 10th Special Forces. What i saw as a soldier in the service of my country sickened me. We are not the "good guys". Since i was brought up to believe in God and country, i figured God was a lie too. So jay it's people like you who destroy the faith of some, and prohibit the faith of a few others. You haven't even served, and don't give me that bullshit about medical problems - if the army won't take you, than do a stint in the Peace Corps (wouldn't that be ironic). But cheering from the sidelines is for hypocrites. In answer to your question, i don't want to leave my family, so i will stay in this den of hypocrites and be a thorn in the side to folks like you. Cheers.

Not really

Nope, but the guy totally disrespected the intent of this thread. We're all supposed to just give our biases, not turn this into a debate.

If you gave your biases here, I would not turn this into an anti-b.k. barunt discussion since you're opening up and admitting things to all of us. That's basically what he tried to do.

So who are the good guys? The Muslims who repress women rights and kill innocent people? Or the Communist regimes who take away freedom and starve people to death. Or maybe its the Europeans, who sit on their asses and do nothing about the genocides and despotism, and even in some cases supply it with resources. America may not be perfect, but we are definitely the 'good guys'

So who are the good guys?
There are no good guys. Read your Bible (Matthew 19:17) instead of thumping it. And luns, why am i the one starting debates when it was millej and jay who asked the questions that prompted my answers? Why would you say nothing to them? This is however a good thread, so there'll be no more debating from me here. My apologies to got tonkaed - excellent thread.

I'm not bringing up the bible at all. And you have to admit, the U.S. is the good guys. We have always stood up for Freedom and justice. (Except for the Spanish American War)

Dude, go to college ASAP. I am begging you. Sit in on a class at Lewis & Clark or Reed. Read a book called The Last Colonial Massacre by Greg Grandin. I will buy you a copy, even.

In defense of b.k. barunt, I don't think we are the "good guys" either. (And the older I get and the more I learn the more I think the America we live in isn't the America we see)

Corruption in America is out of control. If Revelation 18 is speaking of the USA, she has many "sins".

I do believe that there are a lot of people in the US that do a lot of good things... apart from the government.

For me it seems like I don't want to come to terms with "who our government really is" and "what its really doing". Call it denial ..... I just don't want to believe its as bad as it may be.
