I loved those games. I can't even remember how many times I played 'em.

Absolutely..."Rogue" was my game of choice for ages. Loads of fun.

College has gotten me to play more heavily on PC. I have three older consoles sitting in my dorm room collecting dust right now :P

I recently got Warcraft 2 to run on my mac. I'm very happy about that. Though the game is outdated as hell. I think the battle.net edition fixed some of the problems but it's much harder to play without those newer RTS design features (like queueing units, auto-attack, right clicking, ect.)

Starcraft 2 is amazing. Custom games are a blast and I've finally been able to play on the ladder and win. Just went on a 5 win streak in 1v1.

Left 4 Dead is great if you have friends who have it.

I've been playing some dragon age: origins but I don't like it as much as mass effect.

Homeworld 2 is a good game if you are looking for a 3d space combat RTS game. A little rough on the controls but otherwise a fun game.

Poker Night at the Inventory is great if you are a geek who likes Strong Bad from homestar runner, Tycho Brahe from Penny Arcade, Max from sam and max, and the Heavy from TF2.

Minecraft is just creepy good.

I'm a Diablo fanboi. Although these games are old, they're still awesome (well...I'll explain that), and they pretty much defined the modern ARPG hack'n'slash. Great loot, replayability, sweet action, etc. etc.

But, like I said, they're old. Diablo I is 15 years old, and if you played it it would feel dated. You can't run, only walk, so that's like my major problem with it (although this really adds to the feeling of the game). But the game is scary, dark and pretty hard if you do it solo without cheats or dupes (I don't think anyone plays online for 1 anymore, and if they do, they're all hacks). I still remember the first time I encountered the Butcher (mmhhh FRESH MEAT!)--terrifying.

II is great, some pros and cons. I've played that since it came out in 2000 (probably not in the past year, though). The online used to be great, but alas has become subject to bots, spammers, and such. It's really annoying when you join a game and get half a screen full of green text trying to get you to buy from 3rd party stores. Most of the time I only played with friends over LAN or in private games, since the majority of of public games where either various runs or griefers who were complete douches. Again, it's a very difficult game if you play solo or in private games and don't end up trading for godly gear. All the various builds for the different classes means you can play through it several times.

Of course I'll buy 3 when it comes out, but unfortunately I think they're going to f*ck it up. No LAN, and they're tweaking it for n00bs. I've followed progress somewhat since the announcement, and there is so many things that are "wtf" worthy.

But yeah if you don't mind older games I would suggest playing those ones.

I'm partial to wargames and RPGs. I like Woodruff's list a lot. I would add Hearts of Iron III, Rome: Total War, and one of my old favorites Freedom Force (which you can get for like $8 on direct2drive or one of those websites).

I like the Command and Conquer Red Alert series. It's been a while, but I remember the first one being awesome. I liked the rest too, especially Generals.

If you want to play a first-person shooter with a steep learning curve, try Battlefield 2 (or even the earlier Battlefield series). I haven't played the newer Battlefields, but Battlefield, Battlefield Vietnam, and Battlefield 2 all have planes and helicopters that are difficult to fly well, but when you get good at them, they are deadly. A tank is a sitting duck for a jet... And Battlefield 3 was just released this year too...I haven't played it yet...

I like the Medal of Honor games too...I've got the newest one but haven't installed/played it yet.

I'm playing Dragon Age - Origins right now...it is pretty good.

I really enjoyed The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It's a single player RPG. You can still find the Game of the Year Edition for sale. It has the two major expansion packs. I'd seriously consider this game if you have 2-3 hours per day to play. I found it addictive. And The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due out 11-11-11. The Tamriel map on Conquer Club is from this series. If you don't play this game, your life will be incomplete.

You can't even question it's awesomeness.

Btw, I was playing Master of Orion 2 a few days ago. Nice game, and surprisingly well aged.

Also, the first PC game I ever played was probably this:

MOO2 is a great game. I particularly enjoy how well you can customize your race.

I wouldn't know. Most of the games I enjoy are not all that PC.

I remember that game, but I have no idea what the goal of it was anymore. Off to Wikipedia I guess.

There was no goal, it was an infinite loop game... you'd get through a level by going to one of the window-minigames and completing it, then going to another window where you had to rescue a female cat and make kittens with her... then it loops back to the beginning and it gets harder each time.

Only played football manager games, Diablo and Starcraft on a PC. That I can remember.

Played Diablo first on a playstation, it is one of my favourite games.

Edjit: Oh and one other game, I forget what is is called. It is one of those games where you build men to defend yo castle, which you build too. I think maybe castle or conquest were in the title.
