Either way, Tanner's Internet usage has been curtailed. He's got a home computer, but his parents don't let him on the Web after 9 p.m. He's been using computers at the library during the day.
I am almost certain he wishes he said his dad used the computer at night....or that it wasnt working properly, or that the aurora borealis scared him at the window of his home after 9 or that aliens always visited after 9 so he had to do it elsewhere....
Now if this is all true, and his parents dont want him using the internet after 9 pm in his room.....what is going to be the punishment for parking in a deserted parking lot, using the library's system after being warned by the boys in blue not to do so...
And technically, CC is so addictive, after playing for two or three hours...could he accused for driving under the influence of Conquer Club...the US has just redifined compulsive gaming as an addiction similar to gambling and other addictions. I know the only thing im more addicted to is caffeine...
Further, had the other tourney director been nailed in this well planned police raid....and had he mentioned his user name on CC Hugh E. Rection, the story could have gone national, and attracted an entire new kind of player here at CC

Amp might want to be careful too.
Now Im just joking here....dont anyone misconstrue this as to accusing anyone of anything...even if the whole thing is true...it is an infraction with no consequence or meaning...You have to admire the dedication Unfortunately, it made the paper, because it makes a good story....not because there was any real crime of any consequence...However, his moderating powers may be diminished slightly....if he uses the phrase" I warned you"....he be reminded of his ...transgression. Also, we can now tell on him if we see him on after 9

I don't see how they can prove theft of service...when said service is FREE and OPEN to the public. Loitering perhaps...but not theft of service.
There are 63,000 registered users of CC. Now if we all made one phone call in support of our fellow risk addict....

Hilarious! It still amazes me when otherwise sane people talk to the media.

This sets my suspicion meter off.
If this were April first, I would definitely know what to think.... as it is I reserve judgement until further facts are in.
He probably read the article and joined so he could post about how a moderator was stealing. At least that is how I read this.

THIS GAME he took his most recent turn on the 24th, which was the same day that the article was released. it doesnt seem likely that he has his laptop back yet, so to do this he would have had to find somewhere to take his turns from.

What kind of cop talks like this? Is this guy moonlighting from Reno 911?
I just assumed that Alaskan pigs sound like that.
Alaskan thieves sound like this:
"Hi, my name's AK Iceman."

I just assumed that Canadian pigs sound like that.
Canadian thieves sound like this:
"Hi, my name's AK Iceman."
AK isnt Canadian. Have you seen his profile that says he plays from the US, or the thousands of times he has said he is from Alaska?

Well when you live in Cackalacky (South or North) Alaska might as well be Canada!

"Cackalacky" is local-slang for Carolina.
At least it was when I lived in Charleston, South Cackalacky.

It won't be much a defense when you get sued by somebody and knowingly and willingly allowed your bandwidth to happen.
Stealing bandwidth is a crime now in many places, if not everywhere.
It should also be a crime for being so stupid as to leave your network unsecured.

LOL.
There is another article about this on engadget
http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/25/gamer-busted-for-borrowing-library-wifi-after-hours/
here it describes CC as
some WoW-type action
I believe the story now, but this article makes it sound a lot more negative.

tahitiwahini wrote:If it's not true, then the referenced article is one of the most nefarious forgeries since the ones that cost Dan Rather his job at 60 Minutes over the Memogate scandal.
There are some things about the article that don't sound quite right to me.
Firstly, the libraries where I live offer public wi-fi internet access. There's no restriction that I am aware of about not accessing the system from outside the library building itself.
MCPL offers wireless access to the Internet via the Library’s network. This Wi-Fi service is available to anyone who brings his own properly configured equipment to the library.
There are time of use restrictions (in MCPL's case 180 minutes per day), but they are geared toward making sure that as many as people as possible have access to the system.
Q. Are there any restrictions on my use of the Internet?
A. Yes. The Library’s Wi-Fi Service draws upon the resources of MCPL’s central network. In the interest of supporting the many demands on the network, these service parameters are in effect:
• Each user may have access for a maximum of 180 minutes per day, per device. This time can be used in a single session, or spread out over multiple sessions during the day.
• The Wi-Fi Service will support a maximum of 20 simultaneous users per branch.
It's hard to imagine the library would complain under the circumstances set out in the article.
Secondly, there is the issue of he original poster, CovertBeaver. I was curious how someone would have found this article so quickly. It turns out that CovertBeaver joined the site on 25 Feb 2007, that is today:

Well, the site looks authentic enough, though I don't live in Anchorage so I wouldn't know for sure if it's a authentic paper. The poster may just have made this his first post because he's a gossiper. I know that there are a bunch of moderately ranked players that never post, and since he's a new recruit he may have just not been able to finish a game yet.
