That's exactly my point!!! by that exact logic to be born in America makes you an American.

Mexican is a Nationality not an ethnicity, these are 2 different concepts.

Im going to assume they only went so far back in the lineage, maybe 4 or 5 generations, or maybe more, that would explain it best I think.

I think that probably is it. They have been here for whatever number of generations, and its not that there arent many in other states that have too, its that that is not where the waves of immigrants since, have immigrated to.

If youre immigrating to the US, the south is probably not whats touted on your brochure of the most welcoming place to go, or to make a living.

At the time of WWI, there was a large population of both German and Jewish populations, and America didn't want to upset the German-heritage citizens by siding with U.K. and co. (initially) There were many pro-German members of government at the time, for quite a few reasons. I suggest that anyone who is interested read "Aaronsohn's Maps" by Patricia Goldstone. Fascinating biography of a man who hasn't received credit for all his work (and had much of it usurped by T.E. Lawrence) while also a pretty good account of the inner-workings of WWI and the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
