No matter what you use, it must be of a version published after the Dead Sea Scrolls were found and interpreted. They corrected many errors in the old translations (mainly King James), even though none of the errors dealt with the large and important matters.

Actually you have it bassackwards. I've read a lot about the Dead Sea Scrolls and what made them such a phenomenal discovery was the fact that the King James Bible had virtually no differences other than minor syntax or grammatical changes such as the, and, of, etc.

Perhaps you could provide a link to these "errors" that were "corrected"?

What do you make of it without using a translator? I ask because you and tzor seem to be debating which greek bible is better. You obviously read greek, right?

Funny you should ask this because I've just recently started reading it again. I wanted to check up on what people were telling me in the Nephilim & Logic Dictates threads. I like the NIV and also read a little bit from the New American Standard. The NIV was pretty easy reading.

I think everyone should find the one they enjoy reading. My favorite is the New American Standard because for the most part it's worded the way I would say things. Also I enjoy comparing verses from one to the other. They say the same thing but it's like reading it being written by different people.

I was at a church once reading a King James version. The band came into the room I was in because it was sort of a lounge. Someone asked me, "What version is that?" I was kind of imersed in it so I looked at the binding to check before I answered. "King James." He asked, "You mean the New King James?" I said, "No, the old english one." Then they made jokes about it like I was a person that only read one translation.

You hear about the guy who said, "I choose the King James bible, if it was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me."

It was kind of funny, I was just sitting there reading and they made me out to be some kind of an elitest because I happened to have that version that day.

No, Tzor seemed to think I was saying all of the Bible was originally written in Greek. As far as I understand, there is only 1 Greek Bible and that is used more or less as a "baseline" for modern translations.

I believe I made it clear I am going on what I was told and that I leave the real debate up to those who are experts. I merely pointed out that this is yet another place where there is a division between Roman Catholic and Protestant understanding. However, in this case, both basically accept the main versions as "the Bible". The differences mostly matter to scholars or just "personal taste".

One note. I think (but might be wrong) that King James was translated from Latin and not Greek.

That's what I meant: that there were relatively minor errors found after the DSS and that it's still important to make sure the translation/publication was after that discovery just to increase the accuracy in what you read.

Good to see that Night Strike hasn't, and never will, stop with the egregiously obvious backpedaling demonstrating he has no idea what he's talking about.

Not an expert obviously but aren't the basics that the old testament was written in Hebrew because it was written by the Jews, and the new testament was written in Greek? One guy I argue with during lunch break says that some parts are written in Aramaic (sp?) I don't know what Aramaic is.

I specifically said that NONE of the errors found by comparison to the Dead Sea Scrolls had any impact on the major truths of the Bible, so there was no backpedaling. And I did take a semester of Biblical Interpretations, so I do have some basic knowledge in the subject.

Let's see here.
squishyg wrote:Which version of the Bible do you suggest? King James, American Standard, Contemporary English, etc.? There are ones I've never heard of before on here. With no disrespect intended, I'd like to read an authentic version, not a skewed translation that fits a particular denomination's world view.

Your recommendations and advice are welcome! xoxo, squishy

To which you open up with.
The most accurate full Bible is usually said to be the Greek Bible. This is because unlike the Latin church, the Greek church never translated their Bible.

Wow, really? That's part of a response to "Which version of the Bible do you suggest?" Oh, wait, what's that? It isn't? You just needed to show off your huge brain again? Droning on about something you've been told by people you supposedly hang out with that are so much smarter than us. Well, we're all really impressed here, let me tell you.

Can you get us the Greek Bible as a download for squisyg's blackberry? That's probably the best one for him. Let's all run it through different online translators and debate what it really says.

Είστε ένα τέτοιο εξόγκωμα.

That why you wrote "must be".

And nice job once again using a rolly eye icon. It's the way you can get away with a flame. I am so glad you were removed from power, you were the worst mod on this site. It'd be even better if the tables were turned on you just once and you were subjected to the same bullshit you pulled on other people. But no, you get to get away with it, and you get to continue to be the same bad apple you always have been, while everyone you bullied is permanently marked by your malfeasance.

Now, why don't you go bully some people elsewhere. No one likes you here.

Point to where I claim to be a pious and righteous Christian. Then talk about "fruit".

Besides, didn't Jesus call out the Pharisees?

No, he's really not. You weren't subjected to his bullshit like many of us were when he was a mod, but he's never had to be subjected to the same.

Can it be a miss quote? Speaking of fruit, I think I'm going to have to travel for some peaches this year. Tough to beat the ones right off the tree.

Backpedaling, diverting, same old shit. You'd understand if you had been banned regularly by him just for disagreeing politically.

I'm not in junior high, but what are you, a fucking lapdog?

Why don't you take my bullshit (that you've never shown/proven) to another thread instead of hijacking this one?

It's been proven lots of times, big boy.

Besides, every time we tried to bring it up, you'd lock it and ban us. So don't even try to pull that shit. You would have mod edited this thread already if you had the ability. Any time we tried to criticize you, you'd shut it down. You are the worst.

Still hasn't been any justice.

I'm pretty sure I'm not. Some of the time, probably. Most of the time, (here anyway), it's a possibility. WIth everything? No.

Now whether or not I do, on occasion, forget I have a thread in the oven and leave it overnight ... well I suppose I'm guilty, on occasion.
