Those white bvackgrounds will disappear in the final images. But for now because .png files are so much bigger, they have to stay as .jpgs

Are you saying you are going to do transparent backgrounds?

But but, I heard lack converts all map images to jpg:s when he uploads them on the site...

Ps. If you worry about PNG file size, get OptiPNG. It reduces the size a lot without reducing quality.

As with Cairns Metro, this won't be a problem, since it's the forums here that are slightly blue-toned.
The background through the image will be white when in play.
Stop worrying about this.

yeah the frames is what i meant i think they are too flashy and take attention away from the map itself

I think they look good. The only thing I'm concerned about is the game play making all of the 6 maps just similar with different places. I mean looking at other of the world city maps (the popular ones at least) they have a twist or they aren't popular. I think the maps are wonderful but gameplay wise it may be good to have something additional.

If you have a design in mind that maintains the same four corners image holders etc, i'd be glad to see it.

Well, this is just me, and I'm not Lone.prophet, but I would do something like this:

This is just a rough draft, mind you, to show the general idea. Colours, textures and other details could be tweaked and fine-tuned.

Might as well express my support for the gold frames, it makes them look like world class cities.

yeah, the frames are nice IMO. The water could be darker in Stockholm, it is the Baltic sea, which is a nice dark blue.

True, the Baltic sea is very dark... Except in winter, then it's mostly white ;)

Ciudad de México concerns

Map: Ciudad de México
1. Cairns, I found a division that's been used since the 60's to measure air quality (IMECAS program). It splits the city and its conurbated zone into 5 regions (center, NE, NW, SE & SW).
2. To fill those holes to the north of Distrito Federal you can add part of the urban sprawl (Estado de México's counties/states/municipalities).
3. Here's a simple description map of the land.
4. Pictures on the corners: That pyramid is not in Mexico City, it belongs to Hidalgo. My suggestion for pictures are (in order) 1) "Ángel de la Independencia" 2) "Bellas Artes" 3) "Castillo de Chapultepec" 4) "Ciudad Universitaria" (the library).
5. If you need help with the most important streets and highways just holler at me ;)
6. Finally, my suggestion for a basical division (golden lines) and the territory to work with (red ring):

Hmm, so on this map we could play using the Smog of War option? ;)

Seriously, these look like good ideas for organizing a map of this area. :)

Smog is one of the most important issues in Mexico City ;)

fumandomuerte...WOW, thanks for all that information.
And i will consider those pictures for overall balance.

I must ask...on the map, are you able to name the pale yellow districts, since these will be the ones i will have to add to the map.
I take it that all the listed names apply to the Federal Districts, yes?
And thank-you for those golden divisions. ONly someone who know the city would be able to provide that.
I think a map of this city based somehow on smog would be great, although i notive on the smog map that all the high levels are in the north and the green zones in the south.

Ahm...No.

Yes.

Natty, thanks for the suggestion, but that kind of frame is not what i had in mind for world cities...it's kind of "plain jane" and too dark.

Meh, that's cool... I did it in 5 minutes, just for shits & giggles, mainly for the giggles... Your map, your choice ;)

Here cairns, the name of the most important conurbated municipalities (all from the "Estado de México" region) that don't belong to the Distrito Federal region.

This looks very interesting, particularly the way that borders could be tweaked between regions 2 through 6 to add or delete connections for the sake of gameplay without severely distorting reality. That should make it easier to convince Mexican CC members that the changes are worthwhile. The split of Tlalnepantla de Baz could be used to put in one of those quirks that should be on every map: you know, the one that makes you say "D'oh!" the first time you play, don't see it, and it costs you dearly.

I'm thinking about variations on maps that could work on a city setting without reverting to transport links as most twists are

Don't worry I'll come up with something eventually if you don't (You probably will before me as the prodigy of the mapmaking world) ;)

It would be nice to see each map reflect something of the city it represents in some way in addition to the pictures you include in the frames. While thematically the frame is important to tie the maps together, I think it would be a shame if the maps ended being bland replicas (albeit with slight differences of geography). I'm not a big fan of WMs American 6-pack, but each map is visually different (ie different palette) while simultaneously being thematically similar.

This is the sort of balance I would want you to achieve with the 6-pack (and it's sequel); although I'm not suggesting that you use colour-balance to distinguish the maps. :-k
