---'New England' looks a little small, and it has the room to be larger.

---Canadian Shield looks a little odd, perhaps the name should go in the water, or part of it perhaps?

---Also, is there any reason why the names in Mexico are white (fine), and the Tropics are black?

Just made New England 12 pt, instead of 10, and bolded all the country names. I moved "Canadian Shield" it's kind of a weird place regardless, but it looks better now.

Mexcio's names being white and Tropics' being black, there isn't really any reason that I can remember. It's its bothersome, I can change them. Other area's of the map are black/white depending on the color behind the words, if you were wondering about that too.

I'm hoping Grim has a tip or two for the resize, he's really good w/ photoshop (just look at his europe map). I'll post new pics soon, hopefully a small and large.

Another question for anyone who might know, I've just realized that my trial for photoshop expires in three days... not good. Can I still open up my map in it when the trials over? If not, I figure I can find a way to get another trial version.

Well, unfortunately, when you're resizing and text is involved, there's only so much you can do. You can resize the image and then just move the text around accordingly, but that won't help you much here since your map is as vertically oriented as it is horizontally.

The Europe map is 800x600, and playing on a monitor at 1280x1024, you still have a bit of room before you have to start scrolling. So you should create a larger image of say 750xwhatever, and see how that looks. Then just size it down to 80% and you've got your small.

As far as text goes, I'm going to drop one on you that I think will be a big help: Make sure it's all white, and sized the way you like, positioned correctly, etc. Then, merge all the layers of text into one. Go to Layer Styles/Stroke, with a color of black and a 1px weight.

Voila.

You're going to need larger circles, no doubt. If you make them large enough on the large, they'll still be big enough that you won't have to redo them on the small.

Extending your usage depends on
1) whether you can afford to shell out the $600 for a full version :?
2) your willingness to possibly infect your machine with spyware that may be contained in a keygen
3) a knowledge of which registry keys to edit so you can get another 30 days out of another trial.

If you can grab that full version without employing any of these options, you let me know. ;) I'm using 5.0 and it's killing me. :P

Good to hear it hasn't gone the way of the wind. I've been waiting for this one to become near finalized! I nearly set up a man hunt to find you and question you about this map...hehe

The map looks great. Since you're almost done with it, I thought I should mention 2 little name mistakes. I don't know if they have been mentionned before, but they are in the last picture, and I didn't see mention of them when I skimmed through the posts. Labrador and Newfoundland are inverted, and I'm pretty much sure its spelled Nunavut. I wish I could check for the rest, but my geographical knowledge is pretty limited.

i think you should link all of the tropics together, instead of making it separate, like the islands and the mainland. make Cuba touch the mainland

Well, you see, they are islands, and it wouldn't really make any sense to have them literally touching the mainland

I see where Bob the Fig is coming from though. If you do own the tropics, you essentially must own the Yucatan also. Otherwise you are stuck nearly with different areas, and no cross fortification. Is there is a large troop build up in the Yucatan from another player that owns Mexico, they could easily it seems wipe out the Continental Tropics due no viable points of fortification from the Islands to the Continental area. This might make the tropics harder to hold than you initially intended.

If that's what he's trying to say, although it didnt really seem like it, I could add a connection from nicaragua to haiti, wouldn't be too hard.

Well, here it is, what I truly believe to be the final version. Unless there are spelling mistakes, glaringly wrong borders or other similar things, I really think I've completed the visual half of my map.

Let me know if I'm right on, or out in left field :)

Hey, I'm a bit biased since I'm from New Brunswick... but I think you should call Nova Scotia New Brunswick... firstly, cuz NB is bigger than Nova Scotia, and secondly cuz its more french then nova scotia... NB is like 1/3 french... Nova sctoais is like all english. That is all.

You are surely wrong.

1st, the legend is terrible!!
2nd, I would like rivers, not continuations of the background. Sure that thegrimsleeper can probably do it for you.
3rd, some borders, like in French Canada, are thick and should be refined.
4th, but also very important, Im sure the number are bigger than these discs.

You worked hard, so you will not let these minor problems to pass, right?

Does anyone know how big the numbers are, I don't want circles that're too small, but i don't want 'em too big either.

being from Novia Scotia I to may be a bit biased but I think we should keep it as Nova Scotia.
The numbers are roughly size 12 font so just make a mock up of a 2 digit number like 13 (my favorite) and try it on for size. As for the rest of your comments Marv... I think the legend is good, simple easy to read, it scores high in my book. The rivers are fine they are clear and sadly unless you make them red or something it's going to be hard to make them look alot diffrent than the water surrounding the country. Marv I know your a fan of arbitrary and unsymbolic unpassable borders but I like the fact that there are clearly mountains and rivers on this map. Your right on the third point though, make that line a little cleaner and you'r golden.

Use the xml tester, use even with an existing xml, its only for you have the exact idea of the numbers size... But I remember, when you are doing a map, they are much bigger than they seem when you are playing.
