Autotourneys came, and now are abandoned, they try so many new things, but the follow through is pathetic.

Another year, we will be lucky to have 5000

In another year? At the current rate of losing 209 players every 4 days, it will only take us another 20 days to get under 5000.

Let's hope the powers to be finally come up with a plan then, before everyone is asking strangers to pay for their premium, because they feel it's worth absolutely nothing.

For the record, I still like this site and I enjoy the games on it. The only moments I feel that CC isn't doing okay, is when I look at this topic. So I guess, for the average non-forum-user, this must be the same. Apart from a little longer waiting times to get games filled, things are pretty decent for the 95% users who don't give a shit about this forum. That kind of makes me optimistic.

-----The High Command is removing Post,Maps,The Honor of having served CC,combining everything. That's how they ROLL now. There used to be a Parade every time a Map was released in Announcements. You think they would try to End The Foundry on 300 maps. Nope, answer we are waiting for activity in the foundry. I guess that's why I didn't get my Beta Medal. Beta must have died with the foundry as well. :D Even though it's one of the medals shown on the home page, improve your skills. ;) Even students in The High Command can't get a Premium Scholarship. I see one of them has joined The Blue and Silver Rebellion. A Great War leader...That is the only reason I have that worthless crap known as premium. To par take (represent regular joes) in The Biggest Joke known as The GREAT WAR. I can see having to get GW Tokens on the drop on maps to join T G W .But once you have won a game in T G W during a round. A GW Token you should get, without worrying about a drop. Nope, I log in to CC ,I get a T G W Token. That's just the tip of The Iceberg. I now have a superb understanding of Buyer's remorse...I will not make that mistake again. :D ConfederateSS.out!(The Blue and Silver Rebellion)..."WHEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!" ;) ...Next on our tour will be traveling through the Mysterious 7,000's...Please keep your seat buckled and you hands inside the car. :D :D :D

This about says it for me.

Not that I wouldn't urge the forum management to restore the site to its glory days.

My experience is different. I've never been a forum regular, but I used to play everyday until the site started lagging unbearably. When I returned, the game list was a wasteland. Only then I came to the forum to see if people were still here. I found way less activity in the forum too, a rampant lack of moderation, and an unsettling echo chamber effect (some old members trolling and chastising any slightly critical views). I guess this is what happens when a site loses momentum. It's a pity, because it's a really, really good site. The technical issues might have killed it.

Auto tourneys were poorly run from the start. I attempted to bring this to the owner's attention, I argued against how they were run, how they were set up, how it wasn't going to go over well with the tourney regulars, and got told to basically shut up. I'm not surprised in the least that they've failed; I predicted it.

Bollocks.

Subject: Predict-a-move game design

csol4846 wrote:here is an idea (stolen from a chess website)for a new feature. please comment. maybe we can generate some interest.

Predict-a-move tournament (requires system development)
Game between 2 anonymous masters , with running commentary to explain motives. It would not have be live, but a recorded game to give programmers time to set it up.
maybe small maps (to limit possibilities and keep game short )
maybe poly (to keep game interesting)
trench (limit long strings)
all other settings can be used

players signup as usual
player limit? Maybe
weekly or monthly start-ups
points available per turn equal 100 (could be any number)
players have 24hrs to predict the move of the master (one side only might be good to start with, predict both sides later)
player choose from 5_10 candidate moves listed on menu (maybe the masters make up candidate move list)
players are awarded points for correct prediction, points acquired equal 100 divided by number of correct answers. 10 people correct are awarded 10 point, 20 people correct are awarded 5 points.
Next move can start at predetermined time (e.g. 6:00 pm EST.)
Running total and standings listed on sidebar, chat bar functional.

The server probably does a re-count update at specific hours and you just happened on such an instance.

Maybe if everyone stopped posting and bumping this thread, it wouldn't be in people's minds so much.
Accept that it has been declining, and turn your energies to a solution that may revive it and its fortunes.

1. Play games.

2. Talk about CC with anyone in real life who you think even might be interested.

3. Be friendly and supportive to new players. No cliques, no elitism, no nastiness.

Are you suggesting that talking about the decline is contributing to the decline?
