I'd remove the mountians and rivers from the minimap. They just clutter it. Also, it does look plastic-wrappy. Could you change the filters? The minimap from a few versions ago was good - back when people were pointing out that continents were the wrong color on the minimap.

I'm going to have to agree with mibi. It looks as if you are baking or roasting the poor country inside an oven. Look at all the blues, grays, purples, and even greens...that make up dear Switzerland. This map seems to miss all those wonderful elements.

Most certainly yes! Perhaps even with faded image backdrops of mountains, or country homes. Take a step back...and would notice this is a Switzerland map? Does any thing in the map really feel like Switzerland? Maybe we could PM some of the players on CC from Switzerland, and see how they feel about the map? People that live in the region of a map always have some invaluable input.
A few from the scoreboard's first 7 pages:
[player]chatzestrecker[/player]
[player]intenespi[/player]
[player]Dreamer[/player]
[player]Reto Vögeli[/player]
[player]ueli[/player]
[player]Crazy_Ivan[/player]
[player]koozer[/player]
[player]Tyrlol[/player]
[player]alegoria[/player]
[player]ryoussef[/player]
Perhaps if you sent a mass PM to them, at least one or two may drop by.
Consider the addition of the Country flag too!

Goodluck. I know you've some talent, I think it's just about using it and excuting it! Perhaps those from Switzerland will have some good feedback. If they don't respond...try some others!

first of all: congrats, nicely done this map. THANX!!
Since you asked for my 2 cents, here they are:
Dont put Basel into the "Zürich influence", that just aint right, trust me! I'd suggest to make another bonus region in the north, a small one, including Basel as its chef-lieu, then also Jura and Solothurn... or leave Jura with the Romandie (which is better, in fact) and divide Basel in two (Basel-town, Basel-countryside, or something like that, 'cause actually Basel is 2 small cantons called city and country-side...) plus Solothurn.
then just for the geographical reality: put a lake in between luzern, unterwalden and schwyz... dont need to alter the connections, just when I look at a swiss map, THERE IS a lake in the center (I am originally from Lucerne, that's why

)
I guess that's about it....
Thx again for all the work you've put into "our" map

cheers
ueli

Update 21 gives you 2 options:
Normal:
[bigimg]http://i29.tinypic.com/nyfeom.jpg[/bigimg]
Desaturated:
[bigimg]http://i32.tinypic.com/2qsbcp3.jpg[/bigimg]
There are a lot of changes, but the biggest is obviously the pictures. Do the pictures make this feel more like Switzerland? Can you still tell apart the continents?

The desaturation definetly has some potential. But your going to have to work a little more to make the map wrok like this. Right now its jsut looking washed out.

I don't like the background image in the map for two reasons:
1. It's barely visible so it adds nothing to the map
2. It's visible enough to make it hard for my poor eyes to read the map and differentiate between colours
Ergo better without it in my humble opinion.

I agree, and will add a third point:
3. You have a lot going on already with territories tightly spaced in some places and the mountains taking up a good deal of real estate, so additional visual elements make things a bit muddled.
Basel: is it just my bad eyes, or is it difficult to tell which region it is a part of?
Basel again: somebody is going to attack Solo Thurn thinking they are attacking Basel, and that somebody's name is oaktown.

It's not your bad eyes.

Basel is closer to Solo-Thurn's army circle than its own circle.

Also Basel seems like a stand alone territory!

It looks like Oaktown missed the 'Basel is part of no continent' text.
This does sound a little odd; why not have 'Basel is not part of a continent' or 'Basel does not have a region bonus'?
The colour between Basel and surrounding areas needs to be differentiated a little more, and you should take Basel out of the white area on the mini-map, to emphasise that it is not part of a bonus area.

You know what? I missed it too.
Why has Basel become part of no region?

Basel is not part of any territory because of that post ^^^^. I
I didnt want to have 31 territories, and he said that the others were good in their continents-- so i made Basel have no continent.
Was that a good idea?

You might be better to actually split Basel into two territories; 32 is a much better territory count than 31

and then you could consider giving it a small +1 bonus or something ?

Well which part of that version did you like mibi? The BG?
MrBenn, it has 30 right now, so if i split it--it will be 31

30 is better than 31 or 32.
Of course 36 would be better.

For it to feel like Switzerland you must add the bordering states. This is Switzerland...the heart of Europe.
At least that's what I think should be the first step.

just few things
- put basel name right next to title
- I don't like chocolate box images inside switzerland
- what's up with those uggly borders for birdering states, as I said before swiss people tend to see themself as an island and if you take the actual EU map it's exactly the way it looks. For me you can remove them
go on!

The problem is that the borders don't look like borders. I didn't even notice there were borders until you mentioned them.
As for the Swiss regarding Switzerland as an island...that's a political ideology. That means the Swiss are self sufficient. This is a geographical map not a map about political ideology and the borders of the surrounding states (there are 4 at least) should be included.
P.S. In 20 years' time Switzerland will be part of the EU pamoa!

Why isn't Basel just part of a continent?
I don't see how it improves the gameplay to have Basel as a no-cont. terr.
