Last update here

WidowMakers has given me a green light for map development - I just need to develop a map with a solid framework / idea of gameplay and a basic idea of how it'll look. Then I'll hand it over to him for graphics. The problem is how sparse the updates will be because I have to do it with a pen and paper and colored pencils, not photoshop. First you guys need to tell me if you like the idea:

pretty good for a hand-drawn map, the only yhing is that the blues are to similar, but I like the idea, and the mapp so far.

well obviously we'd recommend you doing it in photoshop so that it's a lot easier to make changes.

I'd say trace it again, either in photoshop type program or by hand (but honestly that option is not ideal). Trace it so that everything is a lot clearer. Like other poster said, the blues are too close and the connecting lines are not quite clear enough to make it easy to talk about the map.

since you now basically know where the colours are going to go, just use those colours for the border or a thin black and draw connecting lines with a different colour. Right now I'm finding it a bit difficult to comment on the layout because of the way you have presented it.

Widowmakers might (see his thread) finalize this map in photoshop, I need to get the gameplay down.

yes. I understand that. It's still better for everyone involved if you do it on a program rather than by hand.

That's the thing though - I don't know how. I can redraw by hand it to look more appealing and easier to see but keep in mind that you shouldn't expect too much from these.

true. if there's will there's a way.

search the net for tutorials and experiment with every single tool available. in 1 hour you'll be able to make a decent draft. in 1 week it will look better and you'll know how to modify it easily. in 1 month you'll make a beautiful map.

No. What's the point?

It's just another world map. How many times have we been through this?

Its definetly diffirent from another world map. But ill reserve judgement until i see a better draft.

how many territories? doesn't look like a lot.

I count 38 territories. Excuse me if I'm wrong.

Spockers, you turn people off being map-makers because you don't like it. Just f*ck off and give people a chance to make it at least to the next update.

Unriggable; I think it looks good as a drawn map, though I think the 'bold' lines for different territories are too 'bold', and I know that you're only going for gameplay.

Yeah but see its hard to use photoshop when I don't own it...I think my dad might have a copy actually but the earliest I can get it is July.

Let spockers be the cynic to judge everything before he actually takes a look at the maps.

What was that algorithm used to decide the continent bonuses?

Here is the excel file Contient Bonus Excel File

EDIT: The site above does not seem to be working. A slight less user friendly file is here

I don't have excel, all I need is the equation written out (I can do it by hand).

{[(Number of Territories)*1.5 + (Number of Territories to Defend entire Continent)*4 + (Number of Territories that can Attack Continent)*1 + (Number of Different Continent Neighbors )*0.5] / 6} +/- any number to level them out = BONUS

Posted: Tue Jun 26, 2007 6:18 pm

New bonuses are:

Asia +3
Australia +2
Africa +5
India +1
Europe +2
North America +2
South America +2
Antarctica +4
America +2
Eurasia +4
Laurasia +3
West Gondwana +4
East Gondwana +4

Some of you may be wondering why both asia and antarctica have the exact same profile (6 countries, 3 borders) but antarctica is worth 1 more - antarctica is not part of any supercontinent. Also concerning North America and South America...should I rename them, since they aren't 'yet' connected?

Looks good so far, but what is it supposed to be? Some sort of Pangaea? I'm mildly confused.

By the way, if you don't have Photoshop, you should try GIMP. It's not as good as photoshop, but it's free, and, really, the missing features are mostly very advanced stuff.

I hate to be a hardon and all but...where exactly do I download it?
