I found a way to use paint on GIMP!
you add the paint picture as a layer on GIMP

It seems to me that they are the same

I do not know. Usually Photoshop is used. I myself use GIMP and Inkscape
TITANESS wrote:I found a way to use paint on GIMP!

yes you could do that, but it is much easier to just draw it in GIMP
TITANESS wrote:It seems to me that they are the sameMr_Adams wrote:Gimp is a higher quality paint right?
Adams is actually correct, GIMP is higher quality. In GIMP, you can do many more things than you can do in Paint
Re: Q&A: Map Making TTT (Tips, Tricks & Tutorials)
Photoshop is able to do far more than GIMP, easier than GIMP. Sad truth.

Inkscape beats Paint.

We are getting slightly off the point here. But before a mod tells us i will make a point.
You really cant compare blender, c4d, maya and 3dstudio max, with any of the programs listed by bryguy, the reason is it is like comparing a plane to a car, it really depends what you are going to use it for.
You can make a list comparing all 2D editors, and a list of 3D editor, but once again this is slightly wrong, because inkscape is a vector program, whereas gimp is a pixel editor, so are designed for different things.
And as for lists comparing things that do the same things, photoshop and gimp, this is personally opinion, because i find gimp is far better than photoshop, just because i know how to go about things i want to do, and some people prefer different interfaces.
So really i dont think anyone can ever compile a list saying which is the best program because everything is dependant on the user!

Re: Q&A: Map Making TTT (Tips, Tricks & Tutorials)
i wasn't comparing anything i was just pointing out that there are a lot more programs that you can use for map making.
as for strict comparison all i can say is that the tool is as good as the artist is.

Starting positions are asigned randomly. 1 person can have two staring positions but they will be given out randomly rather than asigned. If that makes sense.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

Obviously - you have to have twice as many starting positions as players...

ok.
im a little confused, though.
this:
can 1 person get 2 starting positions? 2 specific ones?
say this for an example:
player one starts with A1 and A2
player 2 starts with B1 and B2
player 3 starts with C1 and C2
and it wouldnt be player one starts with A2 and C1?
so the positions go in 'pairs'?

Ah - sorry - confused what you meant...
Yes starting positions can be grouped... see Das Schloss for example.

Nowadays you can probably use Picnik to create maps, which is basically an online program like Photoshop. There is nothing to download and all you have to do is make an account there.
The URL is: http://www.picnik.com
I am not a mapmaker, so I am not sure if this is okay to use to make maps, but I do use this for photos and stuff like that and it works very well.

But dont worry about XML just yet, if you do have a map as a PSD.

right, you'll need to convert it to a JPG (or JPEG) first

Or a PNG. Any high-quality image format will work.
