FFS! I've had enough of moving and deleting posts and threads asking for a bloody Star Wars map.

There's even a Star Wars thread just a little bit down the page, but still somebody felt compelled to ask for it in a brand new thread anyway.

I'm fed up with it, so I'm turning this thread into the trash can for Star Wars suggestions. Any useless threads I find that are just asking for a Star Wars map will get merged into this thread.

Maybe if everyone can get together and share their ideas and way to get around the Copyright problem, we can get a Star Wars map on the site and then we wont have to deal with this endless and annoying situation.

If anybody wants to consider making a map look over the following threads first:
Also, copyright needs to be considered:

Every effort should be made to acquire express written consent for a map based on Copyrighted works. In the event that no response is given by the Copyright holders, the map can still be made, but must consist of completely original artwork.

So if permission is sought and there's no response, the map may go ahead as long as the map is made up of completely original artwork. That means no copy and pasting images of star wars characters, places, objects, etc.

If there is a response and it's a no, there is still hope. The map wont be able to be called Star Wars and any unique names should be avoided. Beyond that I think it should be ok.

Now please, stop creating useless threads asking for a Star Wars map!

star wars series

different theatrical maps would be awesome, maybe one with a bunch of planets as the continent bonuses, or part of a system making up bonuses, or zooming into one specific planet would be better...

How to make a map Handbook wrote:"3. A maps content must be the original work of the cartographer unless consent to use copyrighted works is gained. This is your responsibility."

The mapmaker secured copyright in some way. Note that both maps give credit to their original source. Knowing George Lucas and company, good luck.

Star Wars [idea]

Post by Halmir »

As normal I'm just the ideas guy, I need someone else to be inspired and take this forward both graphically and XML-ly :)

Picture the Death Star on one side of the map. It has small bonuses for the Laser Cannon towers and the tonking big planet destroyer laser. Perhaps other zones are the Trench, Tie fighter hangers, Vader's room, Garbage crusher whatever. Some of the zones give a small bonus, the entire Death Star gives another bonus. There will also be a number of Tie fighters around it, again a bonus for holding the entire squadron, and a special +1 bonus for Vader's fighter.

The other side of the map is the Rebel base (can never remember the name of it lol) with some zone bonuses for X-Wing Hangers, defence lasers etc. In the middle is the planet that is shielding the Rebel base, and all around it are the squadrons of X-wing & Y-Wing fighters going to the attack. You could even add in the Millenium Falcon as a special +1 bonus (it has two sections, Han & Chewie !).

So there's the concept, make it so!

This map will run into a bunch of copyright issues.
That means you need to get permission from the guys in charge of everything related to Star Wars before you are able to use this map.
If you can't get permission, then sorry, no map.
I'd suggest that you try to make a different map, cause getting permission to do a Star Wars map would be rather difficult, if not impossible.

wca is right about copyright. However, with your imagination I'm sure that you could create a Star Wars inspired map if you wanted something along those themes. Just cannot be the characters or name or graphics (etc..) of star wars.

yeah, you could make a spaceship outerspace battle map, without calling it star wars.
Different ships, different names, but everything else could be the same.

Yea, what wca said. Maybe something like instead of x-wings and y-wings, there could be z-wings and x-wings, and instead of the deathstar being called a deathstar and being circular, it could be called the planetcrusher and could be square :)

also the idea that was suggested is the battle of yavin.

A month or so ago, someone got certain rights to use star wars images and names for a map...I forget who it was, or what the map was of. The thread is buried somewhere in this forum, I'm sure.

Wouldnt the wings have to be the shape of an f??? I think maybe something like C-wings and D-wings would actually look like spaceships!

hmm it doesnt always have to have wings shaped like it, it just has to be in the shape of that letter

d wings are taken, so are x y and z i believe

f wing could be like the cockpit at the bottom (the lower part of the F) and the 2 -'s could be guns/missiles
